Review of 'MELIA JARDINES DEL TEIDE'
13 October 2005
Located up a hill on western side of Costa Adeje is best suited to those who would not wish to venture far on foot. 10/15 min. walk to nearest supermarket/shops and upmarket plaza. Nice Playa del Duque beach about 20 min. walk downhill (courtesy bus to and from hotel 3 times a day). The San Eugineo/Puerto Colon areas about 4 euro with the Fanabe area a little closer. All offer typical selection of bars, tribute acts, live bands, karaoke and a good choice of restaurants.
Large bedroom with additional sofa bed and furniture including T.V.(CNN & Eurosport) and a mini-fridge(not stocked). Bathroom quite small and poorly decorated. Adequate wardrobe space but in general room was a little drab. Cleaned daily to an acceptable standard. Panoramic view with extensive colourful gardens surrounding the various blocks that make up the hotel. Some secluded seating areas. Two pools, the lower being a large stylish free form pool with available sun loungers and padded mats. Tables and chairs in shade at pool bar which also had self service and cooked on demand food available from 1100-1700 hrs. Towel exchange service (20 euro deposit).
Good daytime activities which offered a good point of contact with other guests (Brits 10%, Spanish, German & Dutch). Kids activities also available and looked well supervised. Evening entertainment in hotel quite good but also felt the need for a change on a couple of evenings.
Wristband worn for all-inclusive guests. Quality of local beer, wine and spirits served were palatable with soft drinks, coffee/tea available from self service dispensers. All-inclusive drinks available to one o'clock in the morning, which was a plus mark.
The ambience of the smoking permitted section of the dining area was very good with a courtyard restaurant feel to it. However over the week we did not think the choice or quality of food was of 4 star standard with hot plates not always being effective. Weekly barbecue OK. Other British guests we spoke to concurred with our assessment on the food.
Reception, activities, bar and restaurant staff all communicated well, were very pleasant and helpful with the latter sometimes appearing to be understaffed at times. Gracious when tipped. Cleaners in general kept all areas clean and tidy.
Our overall summing up of the hotel would be to say that it did not live up to our expectations but did offer more than a good 3 star hotel.
