Great place to Stay
11 November 2007
Just came back from Madrid and stayed in this Hotel for 2 nights. Accommodation very clean and tidy. If you are lucky enough to get a room that overlooks the front it's great, small balcony etc. We had three rooms 1 a quad which was nicely sized and 2 doubles. If you are not lucky enough to get a front view the internal rooms have nothing to see, very boring, suggest you go for a smoking room as they seem to have the best views with a balcony!! Breakfast very basic, 1 roll and 1 croissant with butter and jam. Only other option was cornflakes, then tea, coffee and orange juice.. However we didnt go there for the breakfast so overall the hotel was very good for a 2 star and it is so central to everything, we would all go back again to this hotel. Word of advice if you prefer to get taxi from the airport and back do so as we were ripped off on the way to the hotel by using shuttle bus, paid 80 odd euros for 2 mini busses as there was 8 of us but returning to the airport we paid half by just picking up a taxi.

Clean, well decorated & everything worked. I was only there for one night between a late arriving flight & a train in the morning & it's very convenient for Atocha station. My room overlooked the plaza that contains the entrance to the Reina Sofia art gallery. Breakfast a bit limited.

The hotel was ideally situated for visiting the Big 3 art galleries - all within a few minutes walking distance. The accommodation was comfortable - clean and reasonably spacious. Bathroom was roomy with hairdryer provided. The staff were polite and efficient. The rooms had TV but no kettle, which was a drawback. Breakfast was basic but adequate, but the hotel has no bar or food available at other times. Overall a good base for a no frills visit.

It was Ok for a moderate priced hotel. I enjoyed the convenience of being near the Prado and Atocha station and would probably book there next time in Madrid,

Six days in Madrid
20 June 2006
The hotel was fine. The rooms were good and modern and fairly quiet. We were overlooking the back. Party of schoolgirls tended to shout to each other along the corridor but a word with the teacher sorted that out and they soon moved on. The breakfast was basic but quite adequate and typically continental. Take your own jam if you don't want peach and buy some fruit. Plenty of coffee and chocolate on request. Good croissants. hotel well situated, very close to Atocha Metro and opposite the railway station. Busy outside at the front, nice square with bars at the rear.Very handy for museums and Retiro park.

The Medioda is a basic hotel. Clean, large rooms without too much luxury. The included breakfast is very basic but it's enough to get you started for the day.
Ideally located in the old city, close to Atochi station and the Metro making it convenient for travel around Madrid. The Reina Sofia Gallery is directly at the rear of the hotel and many bars and restuarants and cafes within short walking distance. The staff were very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

The Hotel was better than we expected for the price. The shower was excellent (I wish we had that water pressure here in england) but one thing that really let the hotel down big time was the breakfast. I wouldnt bother to pay extra to have bed and breakfast it was a waste of time! Apart from that our stay was very good but i would say the staff were not very friendly unless you made an effort to speak some spanish to them so brush up before you go it will make all the difference

Mediodia was a good location for seeing Madrid. Close to all amenities, museums etc. Breakfast was a joke. We asked for cornflakes and had to eat them from a cup. No bowls available for breakfast apparently. Also, because we had flakes we could not have rolls and jam!! But you get what you pay for I suppose. Also, it gets quite noisy in the morning so I would recommend earplugs. Rooms were clean and functional. I am not a fussy person but I could see others unhappy with this hotel. Overall it's worth the two stars.

We have stayed in this hotel for one week in November 2005. The hotel room was quite small and simply equiped, but clean and the price was favourable with respect to the locality of the hotel in the heart of Madrid. Several rooms are situated to very noisy street. So I would recommend to ask for rooms situated to very pleasant plaza behind the hotel. The breakfast was included, but it showed to be very monotone - cake with marmelade and tea every day. However, it may be usual also in other hotels??? I would recommend this hotel to everybody who wants to be accomadated in the center of Madrid for reasonable price and is not asking for luxury.

Review of 'MEDIODIA'
29 December 2005
My wife and I have stayed at the Mediodia twice, each time having a room overlooking the Plaza and the broad avenue on the other side of which is the Atocha Train Station. The extremely close proximity to the art museums, and so many reasonably priced restaurants in the neighborhood makes it very desirable when one considers that the rooms are immaculate, large, with small balconies on the front overlooking Atocha RR Station, and the staff, however busy, were always most cordial and helpful to us. Arriving dog tired at the train station after a day's journey and being able to wheel luggage across the street to the Mediodia was a blessing. The rates are reasonable. Being diabetic, I do not eat breakfast, but others to whom I spoke were more than satisfied with it.I was happy with our five days spent there each time. I hope to return to Madrid again, and it is the Mediodia for us with the beautiful marble tile floors in the bathroom and bedroom. The nightlife around the hotel area is the greatest, although one does have to use some caution in walking in certain areas several blocks away. The hotel sits atop the subway stop, and city buses abound going in every direction. I can hardly wait to return to Madrid and the wonderful Mediodia Hotel.

Spacious room in a clean, slightly old-fashioned hotel. Quiet, despite its position on the Plaza Emperador Carlos V. Easy walking distance of the Prado, and the Reina Sofia is literally round the back. Continental breakfast with delicious croissants (though you have to fight for a coffee refill). Reasonable rates.

Review of 'MEDIODIA'
13 October 2005
The Mediodia is superbly situated if you arrive by train (just across the road from Atocha station) or metro (about 100 yards from nearst metro stop). It is also ideal for Art lovers. The Reina Sofia gallery is at the rear of the hotel, the Prado is 200 yards along the road, and the Thyssen gallery about a quarter of a mile.
The hotel is big and definitely not modern, but the rooms are comfortable and there is a pleasant lounge. Breakfasts are very basic and there are no lunch or dinner facilities. There are however numerous bars, cafes and restaurants or all types nearby. We found the reception staff pleasant and helpful.
On the whole a good centre for exploring Madrid.

Travelling with a group of 8 we had 3 double and 2 single rooms. Two of the double rooms were situated in the renovated part of the hotel. These rooms were superb! The third double room was quite fine and a bit more than what you may expect from a 2 star hotel. The single rooms were also fine but very small. The hotel's appearance and cleanliness of the rooms was very good. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Overall price/quality-ratio: very good!
