Great Location
26 August 2008
The location of Marina Portals is superb some very nice restaurants close by (JOSE'S) AND THE (IRISH BAR) next to each other are both very good there is also a bar called the SHIP which is also very good. There is a great little beach down the hill close to the lovely Marina if you want somewhere more lively a 10 minute bus ride away is Palma Nova.
The hotel is very clean and the rooms are spacious although the better rooms are on the higher floors the 1st floor rooms are down in the basement and felt claustrophobic and dull compered to the higher floor rooms.
Had a mix up with the rooms when we arrived late after midnight but was sorted out very quickly by the young man on the reception desk the next morning had a great time breakfast also very good lots of choice would stay here again and the price we paid with Alpharooms was very good

Great location
12 August 2008
loved the location. Marina is wonderful and very trendy with glam people and places to eat. hotel was really clean at all times. Unfortunately the air con is sub standard in the rooms - very limited output if at all even in the lobby and at high season it was uncomfortable. Breakfast is a good choice and all self service, eat as much as you like. Would definately go back perhaps out of season

Enjoyable and we would return
04 August 2008
Stayed at Marina Portals for 4 nights from 28th July til 1st August. Could not fault this hotel. Rooms were fully air conditioned, extremely clean, pool area was clean, safe and comfortable, all hotel staff were very friendly, breakfast choice was very good indeed and service was excellent. The Spa was fantastic. Location of hotel was perfect. Easy 10 min walk to to Marina or for somewhere less sophisticated, but good for shopping, a 10 min cab ride to Palma Nova. Overall what with perfect weather, I rate this holiday at 10/10.

Just got back 3rd August
03 August 2008
For the money this was a really good hotel. It is clean and spacious throughout and even though it has 189 rooms it never felt crowded. The breakfast was very good, so much choice - cereals, bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, potatoes, cold meats and cheeses, frsh omlettes, bread etc etc. The staff were very good in the morning and were forever cleaning tables, they all had their jobs and got on with them. Busy time for breakfast was 9.45. Pool area great. Beds nice and big. Only a couple of bad points - drinks in the hotel were expensive, go down to the ship(right out of hotel and on right) or Lloyds(right out of hotel and on left) For a really good meal go to Jose's, excellent. Walk back up from marina step.

Great Location
30 July 2008
Great Hotel, Great location - only 10 mins walk from the marina and ideally located in Portals Nous where you will find excellent restraunts and bars. Not considered 4* though, more 3*. They don't take much notice of special requests when booking. Make sure you make your request again when you check in. Definatley got the best rate through Alpharooms.

Carry On Abroad!
30 July 2008
We stayed at the Marina Portals 23-27 July and as previous reviewer commented it is so 1970s! Picture the film Carry on Abroad! :0). That said it may be retro in appearance and the decor of pea green leather sofas and pink walls bizarre, but it is clean and we had no issues with our room – it was just basic. Breakfast was well organised with plenty of choice, and the pool was a good size with enough sunbeds to go around. Basically you get what you pay for and this is a cheap hotel. The biggest negative is location – it is set quite a way up from the harbour and those hills are fine to walk down but they are a killer when walking back!

Doesnt deserve 4 * rating
09 July 2008
Set in a very quiet location.
Room was very clean but hotel seem to have a problem with air conditioning i.e. not working in lots of rooms & several complaints placed which took a few days to sort
Breakfast was very good although the lack of a smile from any of the restaurant staff certainly didnt make it a joyfull experience!
The cafe bar was even worse - When you were eventually served, your drink was slammed infront of you along with your change
The pool was a good size with plenty of sunbeds available & the lifeguard was definately the friendliest person there
All in all I wouldnt rebook - Afterall, what does a smile cost?

70's style hotel not true 4 star
12 May 2008
If you're idea of a 70's throwback hotel is up your street then you will love marina portals!! It is extremely old fashioned, the corridors are like that of the film 'the shining'. It is not 4 star more like 2 star. Some fab cafe's in the port cappacino, dimetris, tahini suishi excellent.

One of the best
25 April 2008
We stayed for three nights in Marina Portals. The room was spacious and clean. We had requested for a room with sea view and on higher floor but they could not accomodate either of these requests. However, view from balcony was of the pools and gardens which was pleasant too. Staff is multilingual. The hotel has a good lounge area with a bar and internet facilities. There is an outdoor and an indoor heated pool. There are sunbeds in the pool area which also has a cafe. The breakfast was excellent providing both hot and cold options. There are a handful of restaurants near the hotel and also a supermarket which is handy. However, it seemed like the resort is more popular with the older crowd. It was very quiet and the beach is very small. We had a much better time at Santa Ponca which is not very far. The hotel, however, was one of the best we have stayed in.

22 July 2007
I stay here regularly with my wife so it must be quite good! All the reviews are quite accurate and value cannot be faulted.
One irritating point however - the pool is shut at 6.30 PM and the exit gate (short cut to the marina) closed before 8pm. In July for heaven's sake!!

Excellent Hotel MAY 2007
27 June 2007
This was our first time staying at this hotel and i would recommend it to anyone, we got a great deal with Alpharooms so much so i was quite worried as to what state the accommodation would be in, i checked out the hotel online and looked quite ok but some of the reviews made me panic because i booked for my 8 friends as well... the hotel is a little dated in the reception area and some of the rooms but what i can say is the hotel is extreamly clean from the reception to the pool to the rooms and the breakfast room, which i think is very important, what dealings i had with staff they were friendly. As for the breakfast i thought it was great, all you can eat buffet it had hot and cold food.. fresh fruit to a fry up (although the spanish sausages were to be desired) fresh pastries to cold meats and from Coffee to Champagne ! it was all there and varied each day, i lapped it up !

BOOKING THIS HOTEL WITH ALPHA ROOMS
21 May 2007
We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and the location is ideal. The hotel is exactly what you would expect for a 3 star hotel. The reception is somewhat dated along with the bar area however, we have never made use of this facility. The staff are very friendly. Breakfast is ok. Have also stayed there on a HB basis but wouldn't do so again as down at the marina area there are such lovely restaurants to eat at. The only downside of booking this hotel was booking it with Alpharooms. We specifically asked for a high floor when making our booking in JANUARY and this is the only time we have been put in a 2nd floor room. The 1st and 2nd floor rooms are the worst in the hotel. The standard of the room goes up from 3rd to 6th floor. Every other time we have booked this hotel we have booked it directly or via another booking agent and every time our request has been fulfilled. We did ask for a high floor at reception when booking in but the hotel was full. I would have no hesitation in staying at Marina Portals again. We are due back there in June, July and August but will not book with alpharooms again.

Spring escape
11 May 2007
The hotel suited our needs very well. We were lucky with our accommodation (family suite) which had 2 bedroom areas as well as a large bathroom and balcony. Everything in the room/bathroom "worked". We found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant when approached. There was a good variety of food at breakfast time (but juice was reconstituted and the cooked fare could have been hotter). The pool area and bar were sufficiently equipped and spacious for the number of people then staying in the hotel (mid-season). Bar food was simple but good enough in quality. The hotel's location was convenient for buses to Palma - which were frequent and cheap (1.35 euros single pp). The walk down to the marina and beaches was easy on the way there, but be prepared for a steep hike on the way back! Good little restaurant right next door to the hotel and some more "up-market" places by the marina.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
08 February 2007
We stayed at the Hotel Marina Portals in June 2005 and although we had reservations as to its 4* rating we decided that another visit in 2006 would be fine, so we booked for 4 nights in September. The resort as such has very little to offer, in fact, it is not really a resort, but more a village. There are a few bars and restaurants, several estate agents and a few gift shops, bank etc. A good bus service operates till late at night to Palma, Palma Nova, Magaluf and Santa Ponca, all about 1e single. A walk to the church is rewarded with lovely views over the beach (about 60 feet below), the marina and across the bay to Palma Nova and Magaluf, about 3 miles as the seagull flies. The hotel we felt had deteriorated since last year. One of the 4 stars had either been removed from the frontage of the hotel or fallen off, but now shows to be only a 3*. Reception was cool and bright, but the receptionist questioned all of our requests. We asked if we could have the same room as last year which was replied with "Why? They are all the same". We didn't get it even though it was vacant. Our room was almost the same, as it was only 5 doors along from the one we requested. One of the mirrors in the wardrobe door was cracked even before I looked at it, so I'm told! And the room needed sweeping. The fridge in the minibar made lots of heat but didn't have much cooling effect on drinks. English(?) channels on the TV are the usual Eurosport and CNN but with the addition of Sky News. Entertainment is very low key and mostly artist performing variations on Karaoke. Now the food. Oh dear. This could be where the 4th star has gone. Breakfast is the usual English style hot and continental cold breakfast, except the hot items were hardly tepid and some decidedly cold that should not have been. However, fried eggs were freshly fried. For dinner an international selection is provided every night. Paella, 3 types of pasta with a tomato based sauce, chips, various salads and cold meats and cheeses, ALL every night! One night pork in a tomato sauce with peppers and garlic was offered which looked quite nice, as it did the next night, and with meat balls the night after that. However, the taste? if I was a cynical man, I would say they were trying to boost their drink sales because there was so much salt in it, it was uneatable. I complained to the maitre d', who agreed that there was far too much salt in it and apologised, with which he shot off to the kitchen and did nothing!

A spotlessly clean hotel although the decor was rather tacky -fake flowers, appalling pictures and ornaments and the reception had an odd assortment of sofas and coffee tables. However the rooms were fine and the bathroom was the best we had in any of the Spanish hotels. It was a nice bright well lit room with good lighted mirror. Plenty of car parking too.Would recommend.

A lovely hotel with extensive facilities. Very clean rooms equiped with Satalite TV (although few English channels), mini bar, hair dryer and air conditioning. The hire of a safe and kettle can also be requested and room service is available through most of the day until approx 11pm. Beautiful grounds and pool area including an outside bar, although the miniture golf was perhaps a little disappointing compared to some. A good sized dinning hall and a very relaxing lounge area near reception with a friendly bar / entertainment in the evenings. The most friendly of staff work throughout the hotel and they never fail to greet you with a smile. Situated in a quite town with plenty of good bars, resturants and shops, along with easy access to local transport including buses within a few yards and a taxi rank a short walk away. The Marineland attraction is also within walking distance. All in all a extreamly pleasureable stay which I will look forward to repeating next year.

We stayed for a week in this hotel with my mother for her annual holiday. Hotel is very comfortable with very friendly staff. Breakfasts were not as good as they have been in the past. Easy access into Palma - we went on "el tren" to Soller then tram to Puerto Soller and the service bus back to Palma. Plenty of places to eat in Portals Nous - recommend Casa Paco and not forgetting the wonderful Cafe Continental just next to the hotel. Staff there are brilliant and food is very good at a smahing price. You can have great fun wandering around the Marina admiring the boats and then relax and have a coffee watching the world go by.

Nice hotel, central for village and marina bars. We were disappointed this year with the restaurant service, had to set our own table at breakfast, then asked to move as evening tablecloth was on. Food average need to get some other fish than Hake I've eaten it grilled, breaded, then disguised with sauce!Only one waitress Elvira had a smile and broken english conversation, they miss a good manager to G-up the staff. Reception staff are very helpful always chatty and smiling. Bedrooms are clean and of good size. Air-con, fridge and t.v. standard.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
19 May 2006
A nice hotel in a good, small resort, with easy access by bus to Palma and the other resorts within Calvia, let down by its staff. A smile & a "Buenos Dias" occasinally would have gone long way. The waiter in the restaurant was dowright rude to some guests who had sat where they shouldn't and forced to move plates in hand. The restaurant Manager who was generally at the entrance taking the money for drinks could have avoided this if he had the manners to greet his guests & explain the policy that the guests should find their own table already set up for 2, 3 or 4 guest but once again this seemed like too much trouble to do. I exclude the waitresses from this who were very nice once you were seated. The Hotel itself was good, the rooms well equipped if a little on the small side (our double on the 4th floor anyway). The gardens & pool area were very pleasant with more than enough sunbeds for all. The small heated indoor pool was lovely for a comfortable swim and I had it to myself most times. There was also a reasonably equipped Gym. Food was also very good, choice & quality. The Hotel seemed to attract several groups, Golfers, stag & hen etc who occasionally got a bit loud. All in all a reasonable choice for families & groups especially, with good facilities, but not a Hotel I would return to.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
09 May 2006
This was my third visit to the hotel. Very clean, good food and nice rooms. However I have found that the service has got worse every visit. For a four star hotel how is it that you cannot get served a cup of coffee in the lounge bar during the day? You have to go to the pool bar outside! Which is fine if you want to drink outside, personally I like to read the paper in the morning after breakfast over a few cups of coffee and a cigarette. (not even facilities for making drinks in the room). The staff were not very accommodating. All in all a nice hotel in a nice location within a small village environment with plenty of shops / restaurants, but useless and very slow service. Probably will not go to that particular hotel again, but love Portal Nous.

We visited Marina Portals in august 2005. We enjoyed our stay so much that we are returning this year as well, and it`s the first time ever that we return to the same place and the same hotel. The hotel is quiet with a laidback atmosphere. The staff is really at your service, and the food is excellent. The hotel offers good entertainment, and our children really enjoyed these nights. The beach is nearby and it`s not to crowded, so it`s easy to "keep contact" with the children and also find available sunbeds. Only at 5 minute walk down to the marina with fantastic restaurants and a good vibe. Big fishes was swimming around in the water, and the children found great you in feeding them. The negative comments will be that the swimmingpool could be a bit bigger, and the gym could be upgraded. All together a fantastic stay.

The hotel is in a good location to get around the island ( right by the bus stop to Palma or Magaluf) and within a minute or so of the main roads. It was always very clean, as was our room, and the food was brilliant with loads of options and very well presented. The room was a bit small for a family of three ! but the view great, the poolside bar and the bar were a bit expensive but the facilities in very good order. There is not a great deal to do at night but the local bar over the road was very welcoming. All in all no complaints, only plaudits. We may stay there again.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS' April 2006
15 April 2006
Hotel Marina Portals is an excellent clean 4 Star hotel in a quiet part of Portals Nous away from the Marina and beach. The standard of facilities and service at the hotel is very good but a car is needed if you need to visit other resorts. The hotels provison for car parking is very poor(circa 15 cars), but parking is available on side roads.
Accomodation is good except that the camp bed supplied for 3rd person sharing a room was unsatisfactory.
The pool area is very clean and inviting and a good suntrap. Check before booking if early or late season whether all facilities are available. In April the Games room was closed but we were not informed about this. There is a small heated indoor pool, and some evening entertainmnet.
Breakfast offered a good selection of food but some of the dishes needed to be hotter (although microwave was available).
Overall the hotel is good value and we would consider returning.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
31 March 2006
Marina Portals is an excellent Hotel with great facilities. I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and as this hotel is not associated with most travel companies have used Alpharoom in booking it. The hotel has excellent staff, superb eating facilities, pools (indoor/outdoor & children’s) a tennis court, gym, games room, meeting rooms, live entertainment and crazy golf. The hotel has different types of rooms: double rooms and also family rooms that have two connected rooms together. All rooms face on to the pool area, which gets the sun during the day. They also have Televisions, hairdryers, security safes and mini bars (Mini bars are chargeable). The maid service is daily and the rooms are very clean. Portal Nous is a quiet area of Majorca and the hotel is on the main road, there is traffic but this does not any cause excessive noise and the road is easily crossed. On this road there is restaurants, bars and shops which are affordable. The area is great for relaxing as it is quiet and there are no discos or bar that are associated with areas like Magaluf. The back gate of the hotel also leads on to a road down to the harbour where expensive yachts are kept (some by famous UK Stars) and also restaurants and bars. Portal Nous also contains the Animal Park Marineland, which is a good day out for children or adults. There are two accesable beach areas in Portal Nous and great transport facilities either by bus or taxi to explore the island of Majorca. The bus/taxi can take you to either Palma City or Palma Nova in ten minutes, the fares are not expensive. The Hotel is roughly 25 minutes away from the Palma port if you are going on a Cruise & Stay (what excellent way to begin or end your holiday than staying at a excellent hotel) and 45 minutes away from the airport. I would highly recommend this hotel if you were wanting a highly relaxable holiday in a excellent area with Fantastic accommodation. I would not recommend this hotel for young people on holiday looking for lively bars or discos. My overall opinion of this hotel and area is that it is the best on the island of Majorca.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
23 February 2006
We had three very pleasant days in February. The rooms were bright and welcoming, with good quality fixtures. It looked like they'd just had their annual paint. The bathroom was spacious with excellent facilities. There wasn't much room to get past the bed, but the bed was a great size for sleeping and relaxing. We didn't use many facilities given the time of year. Breakfast was very average with awful coffee and the usual sherbert fruit juice. Service was good, and reception staff were very friendly. Parking was available which was great. Portals Nous felt a little like a deserted town as it was low season. Some restaurants were closed, and of those remaining open the quality of the food was very average. Buses into Palma were far less frequent than advertised (we waited 30 mins each way), and be prepared to stand all the way. We took the car in after that. Parking is very accessible in Palma and cheap. On balance the hotel was excellent value for money (€35 a night)and we'd stay there again.

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
08 December 2005
We had a week's break at the beginning of November and were very pleased with the standard of accommodation. The room was compact but the bed was huge and the mini-bar very useful for keeping our drinks cool. Bathroom clean with hairdrier and there was room service daily. The staff were unobtrusive but helpful if you had a query. Taxi to and from the airport at 27 euro including tip. Immediate district quiet at this time of year but a small number of places to eat. Useful because the hotel does not do dinner after October. The buffet breakfast, however, catered for every taste and was magnificent. It was the best we have had in any hotel. We often caught a bus into Palma or Palma Nova and beyond for just over 1.25 euro. The bus stopped 100 yds from the hotel near a very well stocked supermarket. Bought fresh sandwiches there too - excellent. Drinks as cheap as the airport if you wish to pack them. We travelled to several places and used bus and train timetables available from the bus station at the terminus in Palma. This is also a good place for a cheap snack en route and is adjacent to the train station. Fun working the timetables out but you can reach most places with a bit of forward planning - and very cheaply. We would definitely return.

This was our second time at the hotel we enjoyed it so much last year we came back. the hotel is excellent very spacious and clean. The rooms are of a reasonable size mini fridge great for your own drinks and after sun, tv, large wardrobes with numerous hangers, air conditioning which is adjustable. Our room this year was on 3rd floor same as reception and was for a disabled person we didnt ask for it but it meant we had a lot more space and the bathroom was very large the only problem was it was along from the lounge area and the smoking end so the smoke drifted down. The food is excellent buffet style both breakfast and dinner and lots of choice but we ate out in palma one night for a nice change this is only 20 mins in taxi or 30 on bus (which is only a few euros each) The hotel has three pools (one inside) one for children, when we went there were only a few children and it was nice and quiet, the pool bar/cafe has plenty to eat and drink but a bit pricey. there is table tennis, mini golf and also a gym for the energetic. The grounds are well, kept plenty of sunbeds not adjustable though. As last year there is not much entertainment very low key piano player a trio singing bar closing at midnight, but if you just want a quiet time plenty to eat and drink and some sun i can recommend this hotel it is well situated for the airport 20mins in taxi not far from palma or magalluf and the resort on the whole is quiet but pleasant with a few bars and restaurants, we will go again

Short break at Marina Portals
01 October 2005
Just returned from 5 day break at Marina Portals. We enjoyed our time there although I agree with another review which said the hotel is an awkward shape. I believe this is because it was formerly a large block of flats which has been tranformed into an hotel. The room we had was bright and airy with a large bathroom and adequate for our needs. I do think some thought should be given to the dining room especially at evening meals. I don't think in its present state it can justify being a 4 star. Somehow breakfast seemed to be fine but dinner was a bit of a disaster. Consequently we only ate there one evening. Having said that I think we would go back for a short break another time as the hotel is in a good location and Portals Nous is a nice "village".

Excellent hotel situated at the top end of Portals on the beach road to Palma/Palmanova. Staff very friendly and facilities well run and clean. Dining in was ok but calamares for breakfast was a little strange! overall good

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
28 September 2005
Just returned from 8 day stay at this hotel. We had a lovely LARGE room (for 2 adults, 2 children and 1 baby) Room consisted of a kingsize bed, 2 singles and 1 travel cot which was provided. Lovely separate storage area and large bathroom. Rooms also have adjustable air conditioning. The hotel layout is somewhat strange, but you do get used to it after a couple of days. Breakfasts were wonderful and provided plenty of choice. We only ate once in the hotel for dinner, as I'm vegetarian and there wasn't much choice for the two children, however, fussy eaters aside, there was a good variety available. The restaurant staff were exceptionally helpful. We ate out at night, and can thoroughly recommend a restaurant directly opposite the hotel called Jose's. Hotel rather quiet at night, although there was entertainment on some nights, but the smoke fumes from the bar were a little too much at times. The marina has to be seen to be believed...full of rich boat owners and some oversized boats. There is also a good selection of restaurants at the marina, but check out the prices first as they very much cater for the boat luvvies. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, then this is the hotel to stay in. Alternatively Magalluf is only 10 mins away, so you can easily get a taxi there for the evening or go into Palma

Review of 'MARINA PORTALS'
26 September 2005
We stayed here for 4 nights in May. The hotel was well run and clean and tidy. It's a 10 minute downhill stroll to the nearby Marina which was a lovely place to eat, although places to eat may become limited if you stay more than a few nights. The pool was clean and tidy, the only downside being that although there were sunloungers, there we no matresses. Breakfast was a great selection of anything you could want, although I'd recommend getting there early. Overall a good hotel in a nice position, would definitely stay there again.
