Review of 'MARBELLA PLAYA'
15 June 2006
Great hotel for families and for a quiet place, beach and the sea, food (unlike Turkey Kemer Resort for instance, it's tough to get a hotel in Spain that offers All Inclusive, but this one does). 2 double size big beds combined into one which gives plenty of room for kids (and kids are free of charge). Rooms are clean, but have paid safe for €30 per week (separate charge)! Plenty of in-hotel entertainment during the day(!) - darts contests, arch, gun shooting, table tennis (no big tennis though), mini-golf contests and free play, big ground chess, kids playground, water slides, etc. What really pissed me off is cocktails! They've got pina colada "pre-prepared" in advance in used bottles of juice, not even made with a shaker!! And it's only 2 types of them, no crushed ice, no margaritas!! And you PAY for that €5 each. You also pay for drinks (including juice and TEA! during lunch and dinner if you're on a full board).
The hotel has 70% of more or less eldery people from 50 onwards! So do not expect rich entertainment. I'm 29, my wife is 28, and although it's a very good quiet place to relax with the kid, it is still quite boring to be in such a different strata of society. Their directors should focus their advertising to attract more younger families. But it's a still very great clean and relaxing place.
Beach is a good granular sand, funny thing is the entrance to the water is shallow for quite a bit - it leaves
plenty of room for the kids to play with water, but some walk for adults before you can actually swim without touching the sea bed with your knees. Overall the beach is clean , but you pay for the use of on-the-beach umbrellas + bed every day.
Our kid was so amused by the excellent mini-disco, that we had to purchase a CD with the mini-disco music they turn on for 20+ kids of the age 3-6 yrs.
Hotel has very clean individual bungalows unless you get a suite in the main building. Food is diverse - fish, beef, pork, even different pancakes selection every day. More salads and deserts though would be a suggestion. Birthday party for someone is free.
