Luxor Review

09 May 2008
The third time in Vegas and the second time I have stayed at the Luxor. An excellent standard hotel for less money than the others. This hotel is on the very south side of the strip but this is no problem as there is a 24hr bus service running the length of the strip right up to Fremont St (The Deuce and costs $5 for a 24hr pass). Large rooms and nice pool. Only down side was that the steakhouse was closed. No drink making facilities in rooms, however there are two Starbucks located downstairs. Fremont St, Belagio Fountains and Grand Canyon are all must whilst visiting.

Honeymooned in Vegas September 2006. Stayed at the Luxor, what an amazing hotel. Had everything we needed and more, never used air-con as the entire hotel was so cool. Even though hotel was bust, never struggled to get a bed round the pool no matter what time of day it was. Perfect base for exploring Vegas but you must go down to the Fremont end at least once as drinks are a third of the price you'll pay in any of the big hotels.  Also you must book Heli-USA's helicopter ride over the canyon and stay in the cowboy ranch overnight.  As fantastic as Vegas was, the flight and ranch were the highlight of our holiday.

Don't miss the Luxor!!!!

Thank you Alpharooms for such a fantastic deal on a wonderful hotel.
When we booked into The Luxor we were offered a room in the Pyramid or The Towers and I can highly recommend the Pyramid.  We were on the 22nd floor and I had the best nights sleep I have ever had in a hotel.  The beds were comfortable and despite the fact that the hotel was fully booked it was very quiet.  The Hotel itself is stunningly beautiful and very striking especially at night.  The staff are friendly and very helpful.  It is very convenient for the strip being between the Mandalay Bay and the Excalibur and about a ten minute walk to the MGM Grand and New York New York.  The only downside is the size of the Casino....how much money did we lose!!!!!!!  The Fusia Restaurant is fantastic and definitely worth a visit.  In all, if you didn't want to leave the Hotel you wouldn't have to, after six days we still didn't see everything or do everything available in the Hotel.  The swimming pool and poolside area is beautiful, sitting below the Pyramid.  Be aware though that the Poolside Bar is only open in peak season, however it is only a short walk through to one of the bars in the Casino if you want a drink.  If you are going to Las Vegas and want a high standard hotel for not too high a cost then I would highly recommend The Luxor!  I will DEFINITELY be going back!

The rooms were amazingly quiet - our room on the 12th floor had a wonderful view over the turrets of Excalibur

For a fantastic meal eay at Fusia (in the walkway between Luxor and Mandalay Bay)

The only down was we were dropped of at the Group Tour Enterance and there was no Bell Boy Service - a long way to carry your bags after an 11 hour flight

Even if you haven't visited the Luxor, you would of probably heard of it and seen it many times on Las Vegas pictures.  The large pyramid shaped hotel located at one end of the strip is an ideal base for your visit to Las Vegas.

A short taxi journey from the airport will find you at the front entrance to the hotel.  On checking in you will be given your room key and directions to your room - listen carefully! Your room will more than likely be accessed via a casino - if you can't resist have a gamble there and then!

The rooms were as you would expect from such a large hotel - large with 2 beds, very clean with a great bathroom. The rooms may seem somewhat a little impersonal, but this is reflected in the price.

Access to the strip is via walkways from casino to casino or the strip tram.

Very impressive hotel although because of the casino nature it is very unpersonal. Clean rooms but make sure you get clear insturctions of where room is to avoid extra walking with suitcase !

We stayed at two hotels in Vegas - 3 nights in the Luxor and 3 in Treasure Island.
When we first arrived at the Luxor we were overwhelmed by the size of it.  We picked our car up at the airport and we used the self drive car park located at the back of the hotel.  There is a walk way from the car park into the hotel which takes you straight through the Casino (you think you've gone the wrong way until you see other people are doing the same).  The plan is that you spend as much time as possible going backwards and forwards through the slot machines and its the same in all the hotels not just the Luxor.
When we eventually got to check in, which was quite a walk, everything went smoothly and we were asked did we want pyramid or tower rooms - we chose pyramid.  We went in a sloping lift which was fun to our room with a view of the Mandalay Bay hotel.  It was a good size room with all facilities including an iron and ironing board but no coffee making - they want you to go back into the hotel for that. 2 large beds and a good sized bathroom. Television of course.
Our first impression was that everwhere was very clean but well worn.  It was evident that thousands of people had stayed there.
The rooms were very quite.  No noise at all. We were on the 13th floor.
Access to the rooms was onto a balcony which looked over the second floor of the hotel which contained various entertainment facilities and bars and restaurants.  Virtual rides and an Imax Cinema where just two of the things there.
Also on this floor was a wedding chapel and various restaurants plus a food court similar to the ones you find in England.  Pizza, Burger, Sandwiches, Ice Cream, Coffee at really good prices if you only wanted a snack.
For mealtimes there was an excellent buffet restaurant which was really good value for money - breakfast was around £6.00 for and all you can eat with everything you could think off! Full English, Cereal, Continental, American or Yoghurt and fruit.
You  could also have an evening meal there which was very good.
There were various other restaurants located in the building - we ate one night in the Mexican - couldn't fault it. Massive portions at good prices.
You could walk through a lovely arcade of shops to the Mandalay Bay on one side of the hotel, or you could take the Monorail.
