Costa Lago
10 February 2008
Just returned from a fantastic week stay at the Costa Lago with my boyfriend. From the moment we entered reception we were treated kindly with high standards of professionalism. The all inclusive programme was explained to us including times of meals and bar! Enrique on reception was brill! We thought food was excellent at all meal times, there was always a good selection and something for everyone, from soup, salads, 3x different meat/fish, pasta etc etc. Even if you are a fussy eater I think you'd find something to eat there! The bar service was excellent, especially Domingo and Miguel!! The bar staff were always friendly and VERY efficient!! I was very impressed with the entertainment being 6 nights out of the 7 due to the time of year. The hotel organised a day trip to Gibraltar for us where the coach picked us up outside. The rooms were so clean and very big in comparison to most spanish hotels i have stayed in the past. We asked for a sea view and got one...often very rare!! All in all we had a great time and will definitely be returning asap! As we were 2 under 25's we were worried about the age-ranges we would find there, although we did feel the youngest at times there were other young couples there and to be honest i like mixing with the older ones..often more funny after a few all inclusive drinks!! would recommend to any age group and such good value for money.

I enjoyed this place - clean, nice room, nice staff - I could go on - Breakfast needs improvement though - I suggest bringing the Spanish over here to teach transport managers how to run public transport properly and, in return, we will teach them how to cook eggs and bacon!

Generally a good hotel, very clean nice rooms. Food ok and a decent select too. Big let down was poolside bar only bar open during daytime until 6pm. May be different in summertime don't know. But you get tiny little glasses for your drinks so you are up and down every 2 mins or have get a few in, much to the disgust at the barman! I went first week of december, it was quiet thank goodness. I'd hate to see the queues for drinks/food when it is full!
Wouldn't say its 4*, stayed in better 3* elsewhere. Nice clean room but you'd want more for 4*.

I first went to this hotel in Dec 2005 for a girly weekend with old workmates, and was so impressed that I went back in Feb and Nov 2006 with my husband. We went all inclusive which was good as the hotel is just out of Torremolinos. Rooms spacious, very clean, lots of wardrobe space, hairdryer in bathroom etc. Food good, entertainment on in bar every night. There is a poolside bar which is open every day until 6pm, serving drinks and snacks between meals. Staff are very helpful if you require anything. Hotel is 10 mins walk from railway station; from here you can go to Fuengirola one way or to Malaga the other, so you are not stuck in one place all the time. Rail fares very cheap - 1.80 euros return to Malaga. Would definitely recommend it!

Good hotel of high standard with friendly staff. Rooms adequate size for a couple and serviced daily. Location excellent for beach or shopping with bus and train links immediately available on the hotel doorstep. Very short drive from the airport (taxi approx 15 Euro's).
Would recommend to friends and would stay again.

Presentation of the hotel and food was to a high standard. Basement room meant noisy plumming above. Pool bar not open! Pool too cold. Entertainment needs a review. Guests predominantly German hence not much conversation. Staff reasonable
10 April 2006
The hotel lobby area, bar and dining areas were to a very high standard, and car parking plentiful. The grounds are pleasant and the location good. Better directions form the airport would have been appreciated.
A nice quiet hotel, with good live entertainment on the plus side. On the negative side the entertainment was not nightly and this made those evenings drag (piped Glen Miller!) German guests prevail, which limited the conversation for our English party, but then we only have ourselves to blame for not learning another lanuage.
The food was better than that experienced in other all inclusive I've used. The alcohol list was limited, but abundant.
The lower level room made for a very noisy stay, plumming wise, particularly between 6:00 and 8:30, plenty of early birds! Ask for a 4th floor room.
The pool bar remained closed for the duration of the stay (early April & I dont think the season had started) and the snacks offered between meals were limited, although this did not bother our party.
Would I return - possibly, but later in the season, and after exploring the entertainment offered at other local hotels.
All staff were professional, but few made us feel welcome - Paco was a shining example.

This hotel was perfect for my mixed group. My husband was skiing with the school so my two youngest children aged 6 and 14 with my mother decided to go for a week in the sun.On arrival we had a very warm welcome andalthough late ,meals were left for us all plate up.Our rooms were lage with a separate living area an interconnecting doors.Everywhere was so clean and the all inclusive package suited us as you could get food anytime. The food was well presented and lots of variety for all my family. The entertainment was modest but there was enough to keep us amused.Few English with lots of lovely other friendly nationalities. Also the hotel was well situated, near the beach, buses and supermarkets. No complaints at all,I just want to go back but work calls!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend. We flew into Malaga airport and used the train to get to the nearest station (La Colina not Torremolinos) this journey takes about 10 mins and its an easy 10 minute walk down to the hotel. There is no taxi rank at this station so only do this if you are prepared to walk with your cases For us the hotel was in a great location one block back from the sea, there is also a bus stop right outside the bus goes up into Torremolinos town. The hotel has a lovely reception area and we were given our room immediately it was only 11.30am (I had imformed the hotel we would be arriving at this time) We had booked All-inclusive and this started straight away so we had lunch. The dining room is lower ground and seemed huge but it was January and the hotel was only a quarter full. The food was well presented and there was lots of choice especially at breakfast. Our room was in the annex and looked out the back of the hotel, no view at all. This did not bother us as the weather was not hot enough to sit out on the balcony but in the summer it would not be nice to sit out there. I would have asked to be moved to a pool view but the pool was closed and there was a bit of noise from the work that was being carried out. There was a notice at reception stating this work was being done. There was entertainment on in the lounge at night, this was good and everyone joined in the Spanish love to dance. The staff were friendly and helpful, all in all very good value for money

This hotel has a four star rating but it is more like an average three star. The reception staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are fairly spacious and clean. The portable tv has poor reception and only 1 english channel. There isn't a mini fridge or any tea/coffee making facilities. I feel you can tell the type of hotel by the quality of the bathroom soaps etc. wether you use them or not. These are not worth putting in the rooms in Costa Lago. The food is average and not a patch on Riu Belplaya hotel next door. The restaurant staff come across as surly and arrogant. The pool was closed due to it being dug up for refurbishment. On the positive side we stayed on an all inclusive basis and although the local spirits were the cheapest of the cheap brands they were drinkable. The bar was never really busy even though the room was full and you could get served quite quickly. There was no limit to what you could order so getting a round for 6 people was easy, unlike other hotels which you can only get 2 drinks at a time. The hotel is only 15 minutes from the airport which was 15 euros in a taxi. You can also get the train from the airport for 1.25 euros and you get off at La Colina and a 10 minute walk downhill. The train is also handy to explore the surrounding area. It runs from Malaga centre to Fuengirola. Malaga is worth a visit but don't go on a sunday as not much open. Try the tapas bars for good quality cheap food. It is a 15 to 20 min walk into Torremolinos centre. There is a golf course nearby at 69 euros per round. The club hire is 24 euros which is comparable to the cost of transporting your own clubs. All in all we had a good weekend but it was mainly down to our own company as opposed to the hotel facilities. Also, Alpharooms was even cheaper than booking with the hotel direct.

room we found very spacious and extremely clean, electricity only worked with key fob in, and was only given one unlike other hotels we have stayed in before. We had a double bed in room and a single with a sofa and tv in other part of room, room was split by wardrobes and bathroom, hence giving parents a bit of privacy from teenager, much needed sometimes. maid came in every day but only when you were ready for her. Would not suggest this hotel for families, but ideal for the older couple who want tranquility, we had no entertainment whatsoever the whole week we were there. The food we found fine for all of us, and plenty of it (my partner does mnot like anything gooped as he calls it and found something to eat every day apart from one day) most of the food is cooked fresh in the restaurant in front of you, and is fully glassed one side so have nice view of gardens whilst eating. The desserts were only plentiful with more choice if you took the first sitting for your meal, if left late there was only ice creams left which were self serving scoops, with three choices each day, the usual chocolate, vanilla and strawberry but with a good choice of syrups to add too. If your not all inclusive as we were but full board its normally best to buy a full bottle of wine with first meal as it is recorked and served again the next day, a lot cheaper at 9 euros than buying a single glass at a time, and when you do just ask for a glass of red wine you end up with a glass of sangria from a machine at a cost of 3 euros. All in all the hotel was a pleasant and clean place ...pretty well placed for the beach but a fair way from centre of town which cost only a euro by bus to get to, and bus stops literally outside hotel, about three an hour but do nopte these buses stop returning from town at about 10pm, watch out for fares in taxis, we did use a taxoi four times and each time the fare changed ranging from 4 euros to 8 euros, its only two mins away by taxi and some decide to take the extremely long way around. As an overall id suggest this hotel to mature couples and not families

Review of 'LUCA COSTA LAGO'
10 July 2005
Stayed ‘all inclusive’ at the Luca Costa Lago in July 2005. Efficient check-in.
Rooms – had ‘big room’ – is a twin bedded room (not much space between foot of bed and wardrobes), plenty of wardrobe space; bathroom and room with sofa/coffee table etc. Doors leading to reasonably sized balcony. Bathroom is ok, ready for an upgrade (toilet pan cracked), shower looked flimsy, but was actually pretty powerful. Toiletries in sachets and not really worth the effort. Towels actually grey – not just old white towels!
Air-conditioning/electricity only works when key fob in ‘slot’. Air-cond seemed to go off during the night as room got very hot.
Safety deposit box included – brownie points for that!
Food – not the best 4 star, but not bad. All buffet. Fish and/or meat freshly cooked in the restaurant, good range of salads, rice, pasta and fruit. Deserts not very exciting, but scoop yourself ice-cream available at lunch and dinner. Freshly cooked pancakes/eggs at breakfast – usual dodgy (to the English palate) bacon!
Bar – only pool bar open until evening – drinks served in plastic cups (safety). White wine drinkable (did not try red or rose), in restaurant and in bars. Local spirits with mixers available and range of cocktails (only for the sweet toothed)!
Swimming pool and sunbeds – plenty of sunbeds, pool small for size of hotel, but surprisingly given hotel was full, never seemed over crowded. Note no pool towels provided.
Entertainment – not great – audience participation type stuff – Miss Costa Lago, Mr and Mrs type thing – got very hot. Also outside terrace area where could take drinks from the bar.
Overall a good hotel. Not many English. Lots of Spanish. Far too many children – kept up really late and allowed to be a nuisance – but obviously that is not the fault of the hotel.
Out of hotel turn left, less than 5 mins walk to the beach. At beach turn right and is about 20 mins stroll into Torremolinos. Taxi to Torremolinos about Euros 6/7.
Taxi from airport Euros 17 and to airport Euros 13. Taxis available outside airport, but a bit of a queue, so possibly worth pre-booking.
