Lords

We stayed in a block that was about 100 yards off the main block our room was alright for a triple room we had 8 beds the toilet was loud and kept banging throughout the night but there weren't any extras that most low cost hotels had like hair dryer and kettle.

This is a basic 1* hotel which is well located and within easy reach of all that London has to offer. Don't expect luxury as its not but for the price you pay you can't expect anything more.
The rooms are adequate and all the staff are friendly enough.
We would stay here again.

Our stay at 'Lords Hotel', Bayswater, London

04 November 2006
Was inexpensive so didn't expect it to be great.   On the positive side it has to be the quietest hotel I have ever stayed in. We were there for 2 nights. Went to bed 10.00pm and didn't stir till 8am next morning which is most unusual in hotel rooms.   Room was basic, as expected,  but was very clean. On the negative side, continental breakfast VERY basic (2 rolls, 1 glass juice and 1 cup of tea - would have loved a refill)and we were in an annexe almost two blocks from the main hotel.   Overall for the money we spent there, nobody bothered us and we can't complain.  E.S.

The lords is an excellant Hotel in Hamersmith just outside the congestion charging area.
However due to the cost and the rating ie 1 star the accomadation maybe not in the same building. Our room was about 100 meters from the main reception.
The room once we found it was 'basic' but liveable with a small shower which came complete with sink and toilet.
The buffet breakfast was a buffet breakfast but only a continental breakfast was included in with the price. The buffet section was all extra £3.00 for a egg and bacon and £1.20 for cereals. The location of the hotel does give options if you need a better quality breakfast.
What the details do not say is if you have any walking diffeculty avoid this hotel. I broke my left leg which was in plaster and the stairs (with no lift) down to the breakfast room together with the 49 steps to the room made getting about very strenuous.

The hotel was difficult to find initially but no problems upon returning in the evening. Suggest once in the area ring a cab to take you to the door as this may save you alot of time.

The staff and other guests all seemed to be very friendly and although all the facilities were basic, it seemed very welcoming after a long day of travelling and sight seeing.

Our double room consisted of two single beds and two sets of bunk beds, so enough room for six to sleep but difficult for two to walk around.

The reception on the t.v. was poor and not worth putting on but sleep was much better anyway. Very quiet at night and good surrounding area.

The en suite was enclosed in a plastic box, a separate cubicle that had been sat in the room, very small but served it's purpose.

I do not recommend the breakfast, it may be better to leave earlier and take breakfast elsewhere. The continental breakfast provided is not even toasted and although fresh, was just two rolls. I wondered why the menu carries a picture of a toaster on the front when even if you offer to pay extra to have the rolls toasted, this is not possible. I received a coffee but no orange juice. They did provide butter and jam and an alternative breakfast is available for an extra fee. I did not 'chance' the value of these extra breakfasts due to the disappointment caused by the continental version.

I plan to stay there again in the future as it is very good for the money, but be prepared for a basic package which is clean and offered by friendly staff.

Location:

Bayswater is a nice area, with plenty of shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and facilities nearby; Bayswater tube station is only 10-15 mins easy walk away if you don't get lost; finding the Hotel was difficult, as the Hotel map was sparse and roads change unexpectedly.

The easiest way to find the Hotel is to turn right from leaving Bayswater Station, walk along to Whitehavens shopping centre and turn left.  Walk along past two gardens until there is one directly in front of you, turn right onto Leinster square.  The Hotel is located on your left before the road becomes Garway Road.

There are three separate buildings, though I was in the main hotel so cannot comment on the others.

Staff:

Largely friendly and helpful; all the staff I came into contact with appeared to be French.  Visitors are not permitted in rooms,
and Hotel doors are locked at night with Hotel guests knocking on the window to enter.

The Room:

Utilitarian; the room was clean, though space was short with TV (5 Channels) and ensuite facilities; shower pressure and temperature good; toilet cramped, though better with door open; 4 power sockets, 1 shaving socket; phone with "payphone" rates; electric heater; desk and chair; wardrobe with hangers.  The bed was fine, the duvet a little thin, though a good temperature was maintained.  There was a window leading to a balcony although building work appeared to be taking place on it.  There was a notice warning guests that the balcony might not be safe; the railing is not very high, but it is a listed building and they are limited in the changes they can make to the outside.

There was no view to speak of, and regrettably no tea or coffee making facilities. Although towels are supplied, only one will be supplied for the duration of the visit, with a charge of £1 for a clean one.

Breakfast:

Available from 7.30-9.30am, there was a free continental breakfast, with extra items available for a price.  I did not try the breakfast, but did get a thermos flask filled; taking some tea bags and milk as well.

Overall:

Cheap and cheerful, difficult to locate, utilitarian.  The lack of tea & coffee making facilities in the room was disappointing, and towel policy a little odd.  Entirely suitable if you just want the basics.

Booking with Alpha was our first contact, and when we needed to alter our reservation it was done with no problems at all. I was very impressed. We went the first time for one night with our 15 year old son. The location was good, near the Bayswater Tube station and in a fairly good residential area but close to shopping and resteraunts. The carpet was very stained , but the room was clean and  had two sets of bunk beds and a single bed which was more than we needed. Very tiny bathroom, reminded me of a boat or camper bathroom, but again very clean. The second time it was just my husband and I and we stayed two nights in a different annex with two twin beds. Same tiny bathroom but again very clean and this annex was upgraded and we had a lovely view of the park. I would definately stay here again, a very good budget choice for London.

This hotel was perfect for our overnight stay in London. The staff were helpful and informative giving us directions to where we needed to get to. There was an excellent selection of restaurants just round the corner.

Our room which was shared by 3 of us was basic but clean and tidy. Although rather oddly there were 4 single beds and a bunk bed in the room we were given, which did make it a little cramped but still we didnt have to fight over who slept where!

The ensuite facilities were clean and perfect for a nice hot shower after a long days walking around London.

My only critisism would be that the 'continental breakfast' wasnt quite as I'd experienced it on the continent - Consisting of two bread rolls, some butter and jam, a glass of orange squash and the choice of tea or coffee. Still, it was included in the price and welcome refreshment after a good nights sleep.

Overall I would say that the Lords Hotel was excellent value for money and I would definately stay there again. It is perfect for travellers/visitors looking for somewhere 'no frills' to stay in a great location.

Very basic hotel but also really clean.

The room we stayed in was en-suite and also had telephone and television.  The only downfall really was it was a quite small room but for the price and the location it was perfect.

Hotel is located in Bayswater area of London and only around 5 mins walk to Bayswater or Queensway underground station.  It is in a quiet area but is near the centre of Bayswater which is easy accessible by underground to the centre of London.

I was surprised that this hotel was only a 1* and would say it is more like a 2* hotel.

I would recommend this hotel for someone who would like a budget London hotel.
