Wish we were There

30 July 2008
Just returned yesterday and would definitely return to the Las Palomas. Spotless hotel, room more than adequate with beds made every day and changed every other day. Towels were also changed on a daily basis. We were half board and can honestly say there was plenty of choice at mealtimes, something to suit everyone. The location to the beach is great but if you prefer the pool you have to be up very very early to book your lounger. Loads of restaurants and bars in the area - check out Cheers Bar owned by Jackie a Brummie and Wes a dutchman - who will make you very welcome. Choice of food there is also excellent. Will definitely return to the Las Palomas. p.s. would agree with another reviewer - only downside was the shower curtain which billows dreadfully when shower in use and is neither use nor ornament as the floor gets soaking wet. Showerscreen definitely a must

dodgy room

26 July 2008
we have stayed a few times before at the palomas and never a problem. our room was right beside the road and pavement (8 feet away) everybody walking past could see right into the room, so we had to spend our entire stay with the curtains closed, not very 4 star. other minor complaints are 3 euros a day for the tv and not enough sunbeds around the pool ,so no balcony and no sunbed.so anybody thinking of staying at the palomas be aware they have these dodgy rooms and you run the risk of being allocated one apart from that an okish hotel

WE HAVE STAYED AT THE LAS POLOMAS MANY TIMES BEFORE . WE FIND IT TO BE A GOOD VALUE BASIC HOTEL. SINCE NOW ITS 4STAR THE FOOD HAS IMPROVED BUT NOT MUCH ELSE. OUR PROBLEM THIS TIME WAS OUR ROOM, NICE AND CLEAN AIRCON GOOD BUT NO BALCONY AND A PAVEMENT AND ROAD RIGH OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW ,EVERYBODY COULD SEE RIGHT IN OUR ROOM SO WE HAD TO KEEP THE CURTAINS CLOSED ALL THE TIME !!!. HOW CAN WE BOOK HERE AGAIN IN CASE WE GET ONE OF THESE ROOMS AGAIN? IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BOOKING HERE PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE SUB STANDARDROOMS

disappointed

17 July 2008
we are just back from the las palomas hotel on the 15th july 2008 we have been coming here a number of years but unfortunately we will not be returning .it has done quite a lot of refurbishment and it has great rooms and staff but if this is supposed to be a 4star hotel i would like to know who awarded this ststus as the food was so cold except for what the chef was cooking at the hotplates even the tea and coffee had to be put in the microwave to heat .we were served the same menu nearly every night .cold chips and vegetables and very little for dessert ...i am sorry that after all their hard work they still cant get it right at meal time

Kindergarten or 4*Hotel??

16 June 2008
Just back from Las Palomas again. Been going to this hotel for 6years. Sometimes twice a year. Always had a excellent deal, and greta hols. Was a 3*basic no frills hotel, clean, friendly with obliging hardworking staff, ideal location. Now been upgraded to a 4*. Still another great deal so was a bonus to find it had been upgraded. A long way to go yet for 4* standard compared to others! Rooms still dated, but always clean.Plenty of red hot water, still tacky shower curtain,(showerscreen a must) old decor, but a new fridge+hairdryer (never had before) new beds and towels. Still old tiled floors, very noisy when people above wear cloppity shoes all hours (think they had them glued on) Most 4*are now carpet. Food drastically improved(more so breky)v slow though cooked on open hot plate while you watch!Still not quite 4* food compared to other 4* hotels in the area. But much improved so credit given there. Reception desk and reception area fully modernised, flat screen tvs everywhere displaying hotel logo (waste of money there), not flat screen in bedrooms!! Pool ok,surrounding areas need immediate attention, and sunbeds old and cranky, apart from a few new modern ones(gone by 8am english just as bad!) Saved for late afternoon rises or kids that didnt even use them only to put toys on! Not alot of parasols either. Hotel full of kids, unruly loud behaviour. Dont have a problem with kids,(kept under control)they need a holiday too,but not that many all in one go,running riot. Must have been bogof week. Parents oblivious or just plain ignorant, showing no authority or respect for other guests. Was just glad the lifeguard had more authority, would not allow inflatables, lilos etc in the pool.Totally agree.Didnt even let them get near the pool with them, v keen, which a few didnt like.(more whinging kids and Parents!Inflatables are not for average size pools. The beach only 5 mins away, and the sea alot bigger. But responsible parents then have to watch the kids!! Maid service still good, beds changed every other day, clean towels everyday. All in all still a decent hotel, but if prices increase due to upgrade a lot more improvements need to be made to warrant been a 4*hotel. Early days yet and things go alot slower over there,so only time will tell if prices rise before the 4* standard does.

31st - 4th June break 2008

05 June 2008
We have recently just returned from a short break in this hotel on a b&b board basis only. Breakfast was good with plenty of tables and was very clean. Hotel was in a very good position for the beach and night time bars etc. We did not see any maintenance work being done apart from one painter in the childrens play area giving a couple of posts a lick of fresh paint and a guy one day lifting up 2 tiles to re-cement by the pool , so no big drama there at all. Pool is lovely and clean with a lifeguard, plus there is a messeur set up by the pool for anyone wanting a massage, extra cost i think for this. There is also a indoor gymnasium, and a games room. A very clean hotel with the maids cleaning evrything in sight. I would not book for evening meal as we tend to go out for a walk of an evening and have our meals in varried restaurants. Hotel was also on a stight hill which was ok going down but after a couple of days seemed to get steeper . , but then most of the hotels are on a slope. This would not put us off at all, . The only down side was entertainment for the kids, like the previous review we only saw the bird show , the other shows never turned up although they were advertised. Rooms very clean and comfortable with t.v, this actually kept going fuzzy for some reson , but then again we were not in spain to watch t.v.. Beds changed everyday and clean towels. this hotel looked to me to be for familys, couples or mature adults and not for the teenage section as it does keep itself clean and quite peaceful considering how close to all the amenities it is.. We had a great time here and would definately recommend it to anyone wishing to go to toremolinos. Hope this helps and happy hols..................

Easter Short Break

25 March 2008
I have to say that I would tend to agree with most of the other reviews which have been written about this hotel, but here are a few other facts to consider. We have just returned from a 4 night stay over the Easter period and that is the 2nd time which we have stayed at this hotel. The hotel is currently undergoing some much needed extensive refurbishment to the reception and public areas, which to be fair did not spoil our stay because the work had ceased for the Easter holiday. They intend to get reclassification to 4 star status, however, this is a good 3 star hotel which in my opinion has a very long way to go to become a 4 star hotel so I wish them the best of luck. The hotel is in a good location and is currently great value for money, although this could change if they get their 4 stars (the 4 stars are already on display in reception). The one thing that we felt had gone down hill from our last visit 18 months ago was the night time entertainment (or lack of it). It wasn't all that good before, but this time, apart from a couple of guys who did a 20 minute show with some birds of prey, it was Kareokee every night. On a more positive note, the food had vastly improved (probably practicing for when they get the 4 stars) although still fairly basic. Also the buffet serving area gets quite crowded as it is too small for such a large hotel. Would I go back there for a 3rd time? - Yes, providing they don't get carried away with their prices when the refurbishment is finished.

Enjoyed our stay & will return. Hotel having a face lift in the reception area & the approach outside. Rooms spacious & beds comfy except for the pillows. Very clean Hotel, beds changed 3 times whilst we were there & fresh towels everyday. Good selection of food ,something for everyone, I like piping hot food but this was buffet style & just warm. There are two sets of stairs leading to the dining room, this can be a bit difficult for anyone with disabilities. All in all our stay was very enjoyable & would return again....Thanks to Alpharooms for hassle free holiday.

A group of us went to your hotel, we found it to be very central to everything, clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our only gripe would be the food for buffet as this did not suit our taste otherwise we had an excellent stay in your hotel. I would highly recommed it to my frineds or anybody wishing to go there.

Great Hotel

24 October 2007
I really liked Las Palomas. The hotel was nice and clean. The staff was polite and helpful. The big buffet breakfast and dinner was really nice. I'm glad I had "half-board." The great location near the beach was excellent. The room was spacious and clean . I definitely recommend this hotel.

Would Recommend

05 October 2007
Arrived back this morning from 8 days at Las Palomas and would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a clean comfortable place to stay that is good value for money. Would agree with many of the reviews on here that the food is pretty basic, but there was plenty of choice and variety. We were lucky enough to get one of the large corner rooms with a great view, an enormous balcony it was a real sun trap. The hotel is extremely clean and the maids are always busy, clean towels every day and sheets every couple of days. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a good location at Carihuela, between Torremolinos and Benalmadena - with plenty of bars and restaurants around. There seemed to be plenty of sunbeds but guests did go out with their towels very early to secure them for themselves - quite amusing on Tuesday when it rained on them all day. This was our first stay at Las Palomas but we will definitely go back, had a hassle free booking through Alpha Rooms and were pleased with accommodation.

Good Value for money

24 September 2007
We have just retuned from this hotel after 2 weeks, we found it to quite good value for money as we went half board, the food was fine as far as we were concerned, there was always something there that would appeal, an excellent choice in salads, meat dishes and fish, plenty of vegtables and of course there is always chips, plenty of fresh fruits and deserts for afters and as for breakfast there was always a cooked breakfast on offer or a continental. The rooms were very clean and the bedding was changed 3 or 4 times a week and there was clean towels put out every day. The only thing we were not keen on was the pool area as you were hard pressed to get a sun lounger after 12 as they were nearly alway full and there always seemed to be a lot of flies around, but the beach is only 5 mins down the road. while there we frequented the Kangaroo bar quite often as the couple who run the bar Mike and Lorretta and there beautiful baby boy Reus were very friendly and such good fun and the Aussie Burgers and Kangaroo Steaks were to die for, so if you get a chance, check it out. also another good British pub is the Black Bull which is run by a couple from Leeds, good for watching sport as they have a big screen. Our over all rating for the hotel would be 3.5 out of 5 and for the holiday itself we would give 7 out of ten. we would reccomend this hotel if your loking for something cheap and cheerful.

las palomas

24 July 2007
We stayed here for 12 days at beginning of July, the Hotel itself is very clean and constantly maintained, the maids are constantly on the go. Good location, the room we were given was obviously a twin/double room but with two extra beds for the kids, hardly any storage room and very cramped, having said that the other people we spoke to there seemed to have bigger rooms so maybe we were just unlucky, the entertainment team for the kids are a bit of a joke, one guy (Amadeus) just wants to dance all the time and chat up girls, the other one is slightly better and has more time for the kids, but he obviously got the job because of his multi-language skills. Drink in the Hotel is dear, but there are plenty of bars cheaper nearby, El Cortijillo just opposite is good for food, and Paco who runs the place is very freindly. La Luna across the very busy road at the top is ok but the owner is very dour. Watch the busy road as the many mopeds driven by the locals ignore red lights (even at pedestrian crossings) and drive at max speed at all times, we had a couple of close calls with the kids. Hotel food is very average, not good for the more fussy eater and very much of a sameness night after night. Pool area is nice but sunbeds are very scarce, we saw people putting towels out at 1am to reserve them for the day ahead. You could do a lot worse than stay here, but could do better. 3/5

Great Location

17 July 2007
Stayed at this hotel last year in July and thoroughly enjoyed it so much so wewent back again this year rooms are spacious and very clean, good maid service, clean towels and beds changed regulary. Food could have been bettet but we managed to make do sometimes you have to be adaptable in a differnet country. Good location and some good bars nearby. Sunbeds were sparce and the pool area not kept as clean as Iwould have liked. Would probably go back mainly because of the price and have family in Gibralter. Met some nice people while we were there.

hotel las polomas

03 July 2007
I stayed at the las polomas from the 25th june to the 29th june 2007 with my 2 grandchildren. Found the hotel very clean the bedroom was large and comfey the bedroom was cleaned every day and towels were changed every day.The pool area was very good the only thing was that sun beds were being reservered all day with towels on and no one useing them so you had a job to find a empty sun bed after 10am in the morning. The food was ok could have done with more varitey but what was on offer was ok.The staff were very helpful and kind to us. I would go back to the las polomas again and if you are looking for a budget hotel you could not do better than the las polomas. The location to the beach was a walk of 10 mins. away so no problem there all in all l would give this hotel 7 out of 10. las palomas

28 May 2007
we had stayed at this hotel before, and had found it very clean and staff very helpful. this time the hotel had changed quite a lot, a lovely pool area and a much revamped bar/ lounge area. the only down side is the food. we were there full board for 4 nights. the food was quite bland and not much variety. what we did was have one breakfast, one lunch and one evening meal out. the mermais just down the road wad very good, and very friendly. as was the black bull just a bit further towards the beach. hopefully the hotel will upgrade the food as they have the resy of the hotel. it is such a central position i would stay there again.

2nd time around still love it

22 May 2007
This is our second stay at the Las Palomas so we knew what to expect. Location Las Palomas is at the edge or Torremolinos just before you get to Benalmedena, if you go down the bank into the area La Carihuela there is a fantastic beached called Playa Miguel. La Carihuela is really lovely, very Spanish and nice to stroll around day or night. Torremolinos town is great for shopping and afternoon beers but Benalmedena is the place to be on a night. The drinks are extortionate but the atmosphere is great and lively but not too OTT. Rooms The rooms a bright, pretty new and exceptionally clean. The maid came every day, our sheets were changed a couple of times over 6 nights and our towels changed whenever we wanted them to be. The maids were very discreet and I never once had them come in went I was trying to have a lie in. We had two single beds pushed together to make a nice double, dressing table, occasional chair, another side table, a balcony that over looked the garden and had the sun all day. The bathroom had a bath with overhead powerful shower, loo and bidet. Really clean – no mildew! We were on the 7th floor which was nice as it was really quiet. Food Now, the food is not the best but we knew this and as the Las Palomas is in such a good location of us and so cheap that even if you never ate at the restaurants it is still amazing value for money. It’s a shame they don’t do a room only rate. The food is all a bit ‘wet’ wet lettuce, wet pasta, runny pasta sauce. The salad combinations are totally crazy – mustard and cabbage!! I don’t eat a lot of meat but my partner who is a real carnivore seemed to enjoy what was on offer. Chips are always cold and potatoes not cooked properly, veg a bit mushy. There is usually a soup for starter which was OK most nights. The dessert was baked apple or pear every night with psychedelic toppings, little cakes, fruit or ice cream. I commented to my partner that I had never known anyone be able to make a strawberry taste like something else altogether. The breakfasts were OK, plenty of toasts, bread, croissants etc. Hot food included fried eggs, sausage (hot dog kind) bacon, black pudding etc. All in all not too bad. If you are the kind of person who likes to eat burgers and beans then you will hate the food but if you are not too fussy there will always be something you like and if not, stay at the Las Palomas anyway as it’s a great hotel.

Good value

26 April 2007
Lets not forget its a 3 star hotel, that works out cheap to stay on half board! Remembering this, The Hotel is very Clean, Rooms spacious & comfortable with good Balconies! Although our room door was opposite the Chambermaids cupboard/store area. And as I'm sure you are aware the Spainsh do not speak quietly !!!!!!! Need i say more? We didnt bother to pay for the TV in the room as we thought this was a bit of a joke to have to pay. The Bar area is lovely with friendly staff, the restaurant however is more like a school canteen, the food is basic, not always hot, but there is a fair selection! The staff in the restaurant seem to had lost their tounge on occasions, not even a reply to hello/good morning! ONE VERY BIG MINUS FOR THIS HOTEL! Was the fact that there were alot of Italian students staying there, Playing music on their balconies till 3am, singing football songs, even on one occasion throwing chairs off the balconies down to the garden pool area. We stayed for 5 nights middle of April, & the hotel is in a great location for all you need around the area. We used a bar called the mermaid (30 seconds down the hill from the hotel) frequently walking up or down the hill to the hotel each day, its a friendly place with cheap drinks & good value tasty food! All in all the Hotel is a 'you pay for what you get place' We'd stay there again as its comfortable in a great location & well priced!

Good hotel.  Not plush but clean and comfortable.  Staff very friendly and helpful.  Good bar with entertainment, some good, some indifferent.  Food acceptable.  If you can't find anything you like then you are hard to please and for these prices you aren't going to get cordon bleu.  Bit dodgy on one night of the week but plenty of restaurants nearby.  Good location, 5 minutes walk to the beach and the famous promenade which goes for miles in either direction.  Stayed here for 2 weeks last October and for one week in March this year.  Going back for 2 weeks in June, so how bad is that?

Review of 'Las Palomas'

13 March 2007
We visited Hotel Las Polomas in october (20-28) at the start of our holiday at the Carihuela, our first 8 days were spent here at Las Polomas.
Our Room was fantastic, we were on the same floor as the entrance, overlooking the pool, next to the lifts and stairs..... noisy NO, infact we never ever heard anything which obviously we were very happy about, especially as, having our 9yr old daughter with us and not staying out very late at night.
We didnt like the fact you had to rent the t.v remote (i think it was E7 a day, which adds up especially as there werent many channels for the british guests) needless to say we only rented it for one or two days.
The food was really good, plenty of choice for everyone, and always fresh. Breakfast was available earlier than stated, and we generally went in around 8am, and usually bacon and fried eggs werent there and when we asked they always said 5 minutes.... mainly because us brits are usually later risers.
The pool was fantastic for the kids and everyone made really good friends (and still keep intouch 6 months later) They would stay in the pool until late at night (all night if we'd let them) rain or shine (and we had a lot of rain then but it didnt stop the kids....they were all fantastic)
There was an indoor area for the with games and two computers (costing e2 for an hour but you could have 20cents worth of time making this the cheapest priced computer cost in the area as most charged for half or full hour)
There was entertainment every evening, if you chose to go to it or you could wander out of the hotel and within a couple of minutes found plenty to do... a bowling alley within 5mins walk along the main road towards benalmadena, or if you prefer a ten to fifteen minute walk up into torremolinos for disco's etc (if you prefer.
The beach is a short stroll(2-5mins)down the road running alongside the hotel.
There is a bus stop right outside with busses running about every 15mins. you can go almost anywhere by bus at very little cost..most journeys costing e1.05 or e1.15 depending on zones.
Trains run from Torremolinos centro or a 5+ min walk up to montemar where you can go as far as Finguerola or Malaga. We would often get the train to TIVOLI world, where you can have a fantastic time on the rides or just watch the kids having fun (entrance is e6 and a tivolini e10...and the park is open from around 4pm til 10pm during winter or 2am summer...check timetables)

Overall its what you expect for a 3* although the food could have been better and its the first hotel we,ve been to wnere you have to pay to use the television. Other than that the rooms are a good size although a little noisy. The pool was a good size but sadly the hotel blocks it mainly so you can,t get the sun! the location isn't too bad as its in the flatter part of torremelinos and isn't too far from all the public transport, only just over a euro from the airport to town on the train. Basically it was satisfactory.

Good points Excellent value for money.  5 minuts walk to the beach and paseo maritimo. 10-15 minute walk (uphill, not steep) to town centre.
Not so good: Food monotonous and more like canteen than restaurant.   Breakfast usual eggs, straky bacon and beans and you have to ask for decaffinated coffee, not on the machine.
Those that arrive towards the end of the meal hours have less choices to choose from as some of the hot containers are not refilled.
Wine and water are extras and not cheap by Spanish standards.
Htel car park not under cover, is another estra at 6 euros a day.  Beware the stairs to and from the dinning hall, no facilities for wheelchairs.
All in all like I said good value for money.

stayed october 7th 2006 for 13 days.
hotel food very good and we would be reasonably fussy eaters.breakfast hot and plenty of choice.staff very efficient.evening meals varied, hot and plenty of choice.
both meal times busy with a range of nationalities.
rooms and hotel were cleaned daily and fresh towels everyday and bedding changed 3 times weekly.
location on a slight hill
on leaving hotel turn right up the hill 10 mins walk to town of torremolinos and main street of calle san miguel which was always busy.continue to the end of it and go down many steps to the beach with lots of shops and stalls on the way.
on leaving the hotel turn left down hill 5 min walk to the local area and shops and beach with many nice restaurants.
continue along from this along promenade to benalmadena for another 15 mins which is lovely with many boats and is a busier area.
trains in town good and for a little more than 1 euro you can travel to malaga or the other way to fuengirola and all the other seaside towns in between.
the weather was excellent for 1 week but cloudy and rainy for most of the last 4 or 5 days.
prices for food and drink outside of hotel were varied and ranged from 1 euro to 4 or 5 euros for a pint of san miguel (depending on where you were) and food prices varied also ranging from curry chicken and chips for 4 euros to 10 or 12 euros for steak and chips elsewhere.
wonderful paella at casa juan, a big local restaurant at bottom of hill near beach price 22 euros and included 2 langustos and this was for 2 people.lots of spanish people ate there so must have been good.
walked alot to benalmadena and to town and calle san miguel.
long promenade along beach which runs for miles.
lots of hilly areas to walk around town but also many flat areas near beach.
would return as hotel and area was excellent value for money.

this is a nice hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. The room are large with good size balconies, and are kept spotlessly clean ,and towels and linen changed every day. The food is above average .One downside was it could be noisy on the road side of the hotel, and from short stay guest coming and going ,but this may not be a regular thing .Bus stops just outside, and train station 300 metres away.A cross the main road is a gem of a bar The La Luna run by Alphonso ,1 euro for a large beer and the food is good and cheap to.The hotel is closing down in nov. and dec.for refurbishment ,so it will be even better next year .I would stay here again, because it,s value for the money, and I recommend it .

Great stay at Las Palomas.  Very clean.  Large room with air-con, cleaned daily and fresh towels left.  Beds changed every 3 days.  Food good.  Everything you could wish for at breakfast.  Quality of evening meal variable at times, but something for everyone as they were ctering for a range of different nationalitites.  A few moans from some of the English re the food makes me wonder what they expect of a foreign holiday!  Large comfortable bar with entertainment every night - not always that good but the hotel is within easy reach of all village and Torremolinos, so plenty to do. Staff very friendly and helpful.  Hotel could do with updating in parts although is was partially renovated last year.  Lovely pool with easy access for disabled.  However the hotel is not really suitable for disabled people due to the location of the dining room with a large flight of steps down and then up again.  We had to help several wheelchair users to access the dining room.  Strange, as access into, within, and to the pool etc is good.  For the price this is an excellent holiday and I thoroughly recommend it.  Even my partner says he will stay there again - miracle of miracles!  If you go - explore the area, it's lovely with lots to do, though you must look for it.

Spent 5 nights at the Las Palomas in Oct 06 and would recommend it. Immaculately clean hotel and rooms, one of the more spacious Ive stayed in too. Shame about the view, a brick wall! Being on the ground floor below pavent level. Still, air conditioned comfy room with a good quality shower.
I'm sure, having heard murmerings, that some people will say the food is nothing to write home about. But I have one of 2 things to say about these people.... they are either your pie, chips, beans & mash brigade who have the gastronomic outlook of a slug or they are too tight to trade up that little bit and pay for 4 star food, rather than pay for 3 star and expect 4! Certainly one evenings offering included an excellent paella, which I'd hoped for but wasn't necessarily expecting, served piping hot and was suficient in itself not to have to try any of the other hot dishes or array of salads.
The hotel is excellently located up a small hill, being just a 3 minute stroll  from the sea front and very close to numerous bars/cafes & shops.
Entertainment in the evening was very good and varied and the bar prices and service there were also very good.
All in all a very pleasant stay and would go again.

The hotel is located close to the beach with pleasant and friendly staff.  Meals are good; entertainment at the hotel looked good. Rooms are good size and the decor is modern and clean. We had no problems and really enjoyed our stay. I would recommend the hotel and stay there again.

Nice and clean hotel with good friendly staff ,but let down by the evening meals, they seemed to be the same thing every day.School opposite the rear of hotel woke us up at 8am every week day but not to much of a bother.the rooms are big enough and cleaned every day as were the towels and beds changed every day.Would be 4 star except for the food

Very central location, food was of a good standard and was not rushed. Lovely clean rooms and excellent maid service every day. Pool area was nice but could do with a jet wash to remove spilled drinks etc that attracted loads of flies. We were on the 5th floor, however, as the reception is on the 4th floor quite a few rooms were below road level and looked out onto a wall! Not so sure if I would have had the same holiday had I been in one of these rooms.

Hotel just a short distance from airport. 5 min walk from beach and main tourist shops.
Hotel very clean, very friendly staff especially Tad the entertainer & Raphael the bar man, who our 2 year old daughter loved. Good entertainment every night. Nice clean pools/pool area. Looking to visit again & again.
Met a couple who have been visiting for 23 years... that say's it all!
