Big disappointment

06 August 2009
Definitely not one usually to complain, and I always take reviews with a pinch of salt, but I really believe that the reviews for this hotel were either a. written by the hotel, or b. posted in error/meant for another hotel. The hotel is advertised on a beach, it is not. It is approx 250 metres away accessed via a railway track - there are many hotels that advertise themselves correctedly (200-300 m away) that are far cheaper, we unfortunately paid extra thinking it would be 'on the beach', strange that. We also requested and paid for a 'sea view'. Not to be picky but having a balcony facing a concrete wall, with the tiniest bit of a seaview between buildings was not what we were expecting. Parking - well the hotel thought that by us e-mailing to request 'a car parking space at the hotel' we meant that we wanted a hire car when we got there.. hmm. The parking was subsequently full and we had to pay on a meter, about 100 metres away. The hotel was definitely not what you would call 4*. Again I've stayed at many many hotels and always get irate when people in reviews say 'more like a 2*' to get there and find it's fine, maybe not a British Hilton standard 4*, but nice enough and what you'd come to expect from a 4* abroad. However, this was not. I'd say 3 - for communal decor, rooms, bar etc. 2* for food - again, I'm really not usually fussy, honest! I don't expect finest British cuisine, come on, we're in Spain, but I do like warm food. I'm running out of room but will just add that we especially asked for a double, got a twin- v romatic. Oh, & the hotel is opposite a building site, take earplugs! Not worth the money.

small hotel very clean, rooms great, staff friendly. Breakfast, good selection, dinner not a great selection. Rooftop jacuzzi a nice touch, the pool area was pleasant. No entertainment. But we would go back.

Fabulous!!!!!

15 September 2008
The hotel was absolutely wonderful. It was immaculately clean, with maid service on a daily basis - changing sheets and towels as well as a thorough clean. The air conditioning in the rooms was great as it worked even after you had removed the key card, so you always got back to a cool room. The beds were very firm but it is the first time I have ever slept through the night in a hotel so they were comfortable too!!! The food was plentiful and always well presented, tasty and hot with something for everyone. (Though the short sighted other half didn't realise he had piled his plate with baby octopus until he ate one!!!!) There was even champagne one morning for bucks fizz!!! We did not arrive until 11.45pm but there was a plate of food and a bottle of water in our room which was greatly appreciated after a long trip getting to the hotel. The staff were very friendly and professional. The night receptionist was lovely I wanted to adopt him as my Grandad. You must try the rooftop jacuzzi. It is only for 2 people and was a very welcome break from the hustle and bustle of our holiday. We didn't use the pool or spa but both looked very nice and the pool was cleaned out every day. Over all a fantastic, clean, friendly hotel with good food and great facilities.

Fabulous Hotel

19 September 2007
Beautifully appointed, great staff, spotless large rooms, fully controllable air conditioning down to freezer level if required, which stays on when you remove the room key, unlike some hotels, meaning you can go to the beach, get back hot and sweaty and walk into a wonderfully cold bedroom. Worth the money alone when we were there as the weather was hot and humid. Decent breakfast - we didn't sample the other food as we were b&b only. Top rate place to stay in this great resort. Calella is great if you want Spain (it's Catalonia actually) but it probably wouldn't hit the spot with the Benidorm brigade.

I have just returned from a 5 day saty in Calella at the Las Palmeras Hotel.
The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and very welcoming indeed !
The buffet Breakfast was really fantastic, with every taste catered for.
I would highly recommend the Las Palmeras Hotel as it made our stay in the Costa Brava a very enjoyable and memorable one !

Review of 'LAS PALMERAS' + Calella resort

12 September 2006
Had been to Calella before - to different hotel in package.  Returning as we like the resort so much - was manageable size, with plenty to do in surrounding areas if you got bored with the resort itself.

Having read mixed reviews about this hotel, had some trepadation, but was very pleased to see very clean, stylish reception, be received by lovely warm, helpful staff - even though we arrived late as we were travelling independently.  (Prior to our arrival we had some-mail exchanges about where to park our hire car etc, and they were very prompt + helpful in their replies).

Rooms wonderful size, well equipped, clean and modern looking - either overlooking Hotel Amaika across the road, or the back of another hotel/apartments.  Rooms cleaned daily. Outside noise could be a problem - as revellers out till early hours of the morning, but as our hotel didnt face the road, we were OK.

Food all buffet style, we were on 1/2 board basis - and couldn't fault choice, quality, portions or service - the staff again were great! (high -hairs set up where needed I noticed).  Had outdoor pool + jacuzzi on roof + fitness centre for extra charge. Couldn't fault hotel at all, though cannot comment on evening entertainment there, as we always went out in the evenings.  Would recommend it to most people - though ask for quiet room if you have small children (they have pull out beds etc for families in same room I believe)

Plenty to do in resort for both ourselves, and 18 yr old son + his mate, as well as fab, well equipped beaches + town shopping there were several nightclubs for them, plenty of bars/evening stroll areas for us.  Days out: to Barcelona V easy with frequent trains - and cheap too!  Stacks to interest everyone, we walked everywhere there, but as very not, could also catch the Bus Touristic - which goes around all major sights, saving the feet!  Definitely worth going to see the Fountain show at night with lights + music, we were ALL impressed by it + atmosphere is great.  We were advised to watch our belongings, due to pickpockets, so be aware of this, though we had no trouble. Do go to Girona also if you get the chance - very old gothic part fascinating, with lots of outside cafes by the river.  Also, lots of boat trips from Callela if you fancy.  10 out of 10

Review of 'LAS PALMERAS'

15 September 2005
The hotel is excellent. The rooms are clean and neatly presented along with air conditioning. The food at breakfast was varied and there was something for everybodies taste. The pool are was good and the rooftop terraces were quiet and brilliant with jacuzzi and small pool for cooling down. The reception staff spoke excellent english and were very helpful with any query you had. The Hotel is close to the beach and a variety of eating places, pubs and bars. The hotel did provide parking facilities which came in handy with having a hire car.
