Review of 'LA ESPAÑOLA' in Ronda
25 August 2005
La Espanola is situated close to the famous bullring in Ronda. The reception desk, at the foot of the stairs, is small and very old fashioned. You are greeted with a large notice that says they do not take credit or bank cards (which did not affect us, but could be difficult). The room was very dark, with dark brown walls and a solitary dim light in the ceiling, there being no bedside lights. The window looked out onto an enclosed upstairs terrace, which was not in use, and did not offer much additional light. There was air conditioning. The bathroom was small, but adequate. If we were staying longer than two nights, we would have tried to change rooms. We were advised to park the car in a public underground car park which cost 23 Euros for the two days. The hotel was very central and convenient for walking around the town. The breakfast, which was included in the price, was not good. The food looked decidedly unappetising, and there was little choice. The breakfast room was depressing, with an unusual contrast of pictures on the wall, ranging from religious to a sexy nude lady admiring the view! We were unable to have breakfast on the day we left, as there was nobody around and there was no food or tables laid out at 8.30am. This was the most expensive of the hotels we stayed at during our short tour of Andalucia, and the most disappointing. We would not return to it.
