Review of 'KYRIAD LAUSANNE'
06 August 2005
I tend to use hotels as a place to sleep and get ready for the day ahead. The choice of 2-3 star hotels in Nice is astounding, so competition at this end of the market is fierce. The hotel is only ten minutes walk from the SNCF station and the main shopping/eating area. Further five-minute walk through Nice's fine belle-epoque streets will take you to the beach. Despite it's central location, the hotel is on the edge of a residential area known as the “area of musicians”. The streets are named after famous composers, rather than for any on-going musical tradition. No buskers here then, so you’re guaranteed a good night's sleep at the end of your day.
Rooms are adequately sized, with en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV & (crucially) individually controlled air-con. All rooms are non-smoking, so smokers would be advised to request a room with a balcony.
Reception facilities are good and include a decent-sized air-conditioned lounge with vending facilities. WiFi Internet access and a PC are available (handy for checking train times etc. before a journey). The self-service breakfasts are varied and plentiful so you can set yourself up for the day ahead. Overall, the service is helpful, friendly and efficient, but be wary of incurring additional charges for Internet & telephone usage - although these do tend to be nominal.
I’m sure there are similar hotels available at slightly reduced rates if you were prepared to shop around. Yet for an impulse booking, I found the Kyriad Lausanne to be very good-value, with good standards of cleanliness and décor and the efficient service you'd expect of a 3-star chain Hotel. In short, it has all the benefits of a well-managed franchise yet the staff give it the feel of a family-run hotel.
Anyone with reservations about booking a hotel online & 'unseen' will not be disappointed with the Kyriad Lausanne. I would recommend this hotel to friends, and at the rates advertised on alpharooms.co.uk, it represents very good value indeed.
