Not 5 * but ok if on budget
15 May 2008
Hotel is ok. I was in a studio. I guess you get what you pay for. The bathroom could do with a total make over as could the room. Balcony was large and very private - a good thing.
I paid as a single traveller (visiting friends there) so for the money I guess it was ok.

Pleasant stay
15 May 2008
Just returned May 2008. Had a very enjoyable stay, close to the beach and near to Yumbo centre. I found it nice and quiet and adequate for what i paid. The pool is relatively quiet Mon-Fri, but gets busy with Spanish people on Sat/Sun. Overall it was well worth the money

Good & Bad
23 March 2008
Just back after a week at the Koka Mar 08 .Good points were, convenience to the nightlife of both Jumbo and kasbah centres , excellent pool and sunbed areas & very private balconys. Bad points were the room was really grotty. I don't mean dirty- just damaged furniture, worn out baths etc. Have stayed in many places in Playa and I would rate this as average . To end on a good note I have never experienced such pleasant maid service before.

Noisy and Dirty
18 March 2008
A terrible place (like most of the hotels in Playa) Impossible to communicate with the reception.
Shutting down the water several times a week. Brown and dirty water. Very noisy! From nightclub, and especially from the street traffic.OBS: Some rooms are in a terrible condition! Make sure you'll not end-up in one of those.

great value/hotel
23 February 2008
whoever gave this a negative review must be a complete moron.
expected horrible things but but more than positively surprised - GREAT value for money.
sudio, clean with kitchenette, balcony with seavie, roof terrace.
stayed on the fifth floor - great as youre away from (most) of the (karaoke, ect) noise.
hotel is right by the bus stop from the airport, supermarkets, beach are really close, youre in the middle of things yet its surprisingly peaceful, everything was really clean.
receptionist was prone to ignore people - but if you unwaveringly stayed friendly he eventuelly tried to (sort of) help.

Does what it says on the tin!
31 January 2008
Primarily, it must be said, for the price paid these apartments are excellent and for us rated 5/5. Quite simply - you get what you pay for.
Koka is a large complex of, I think, four wings in total; some clearly better than others. First impression of our studio was not good; very old, very basic and to be honest, in need of knocking down and starting again!
We go to Gran Canaria twice a year but added an extra week on a "cheap-as-possible-instead-of-Christmas-presents" basis. A few days into our holiday, little notice was taken of the standard of the room; after all it should only be a place to shower & sleep.
Of particular note was the poolside area - EXCELLENT. There is a huge main pool and also a child's pool. A great snack bar, and plenty of sunbeds (even if they are chained together and regimented!).
Staff at the Koka were pleasant enough, housekeeping did it's job, and we had two changes of towels during the week.
I would recommend these apartments for the younger travellers among you.
While there was a vast mix of ages at Koka, I don't think my parents - who are pensioners aged 74 and 65, and also visit GC yearly - would be impressed with the standard of accomodation! But if you enjoy your nights out and see an apartment only as a place to sleep, then as long as you go with the "get-what-you-pay-for" frame of mind, you'll enjoy your stay.
Koka is well positioned within the centre of Play del Ingles with easy access to the main Commcerical Centres (Yumbo & Kasbah) and the beach.
To sum up, if I was booking a "cheap-as-possible" week away again, I would not hesitate to look to the Koka.

Christmas in the sun!
03 January 2008
Great location, minutes away from the Kasbah and Yumbo. Once we got over the shock of 5 cockroaches in our room on arrival, the hotel was ok. The beds were not comfortable at all. No noise in our part of the hotel, great balcony with the sun on it all afternoon. Room cleaned once in a week. For the price, we will defo go back here.

Just back from a good holiday in Playa del ingles. Stayed at Koka apprtments twice. 2.-16th of November and 12.-26th of December. The hotel is big with 4 buildings. First time i stayed in an apartment on the second floor of the smallest builiding. That was a very old apartment with a warn down kitchen, but it was clean and fairly quieet with only a little traffic on the road outside. The balcony was too small but not much sun at all. The second time i got an apartment in the 5th floor of building nr. 3. That apartment had a newer kitchen, better view and better bathroom. The whole hotel is old and warn down but the pool area is quite good with big pool. The only disadvantage here is the unheated pool.
All in all the price for 14 days at this hotel is realy good and i will recommend it for single travellers and couples with no kids.
The restaurant in the basement has really good mexican food so i can recoomend that too.
Enjoy.

koka is good
16 December 2007
it was a great central location across from kasbah centre and 5 mins away from the beac and Yumbo centre.
the good points was the cleanliness and swimming pool
the hotel was very nice and secure, i was worried after reading other reviews, particulary about security and cockroaches, neither of which were an issue, when we got there we couldnt lock out door but after speaking to reception we were embarrassed not to have noticed the little button that released the catch lol
and NO sign of any pest life in the hotel at all! in the whole time we were in gran can we only saw 1 cockroache in the st.
the bad poiunts of the hotel are:
the appt beds were not very comfy, they were like sofa bed bottoms and were a bit hard to get used to but if your like me you dont spend too much time in bed anyways lol
another downfall for some guest could be the noise that comes from the kasbah centre across the rd, it was very loud until 4/5 am, but that didnt bother me as a night owl i just threw myself into it........
the staff were frienldy and helpful and cleaners came every day to empty bins, every few days for towels and 1 tim en the wk to change the beds
ps if you are lucky to get a top floor appt, u get the added value of a gorgeous roof terrace with stunning views of the mountains and sea to each side
a great place to stay at a very low price, i would stay again for sure!

KOKA stay
29 November 2007
Just back from our stay at the KOKA apartments, firstly the good points. The location is very good, close to bars/restaurants/beach which is what you mainly want. Also all public areas are kept exceptionally clean. The main factor for me was the POOL! It was amazing, very big and kept well clean. When we travelled it was mostly German/Swedish people staying in the hotel, so not much talk though-out the day. Also the reception staff where not helpful, on asking directions to Puerto Rico I was told several different bus numbers.... In the end a local (who was more helpful) advised me where to go. Apartments where basic but kept clean. We where on the 7th floor with balcony. But I would suggest you ask for level 9 as you then get the benefit of a "roof terrace" where you can have your own private sun bathing area. All in all I enjoyed my stay at the KOKA, I would point out the in front of the hotel there is a Spanish nightclub called NIKKI BEACH, and if your looking a early night's sleep this can not be guaranteed! It closes at 5am Thur-Fri-Sat …. But as they say if you can't beat them join them!

Koka
20 November 2007
My partner and i have just stayed at the KOKA apartments near the Kasbah in Playa de Ingles we had a fantastic stay therwe were met by a very good English speaking receptionist in fact all the staff could speek english so we had no problem asking for information about trips. the place itself was spotless you could not fault it. you dont get many places who clean the sun loungers everyday and mop under them. the night life is just on the door step if you want late nights , dancing ad so on. more for 18-30 i would say but we enjoyed it thereOh! the supermarket's are next door too. go on and book it you will love it. sincerely W Hecker.

great location but basic
19 November 2007
Just got back from the Koka 2 days ago(17/11/07). The good things are it's location, very close to the beach, shops, bars and resturaunts. Another good point was the pool area, it was attractive with palm trees and planting, cleaned thoroughly every morning and a very nice thatched roof pool bar. We only tried the pizza and as it was horrible and very salty we didn't risk anything else although the chips looked lovely, crisp and golden. Now for the bad things...we stayed in a studio which was on poolside level so our patio space wasn't private. our view was the poolside toilet door! (however the toilet was spotless.) The studio was very cramped and extremely tatty, there wasn't even a kettle only a small saucepan and frying pan plus two electric rings that took forever to heat up. We asked to be moved as soon as we saw it but had to wait three days when we were moved to a much bigger studio on the third floor of another block. this studio was much nicer with kettle and toaster. we had a lovely big bathroom and the shower was very powerful but it smelled aweful, like sewerage even after being cleaned. The room was only cleaned once during our stay and the towels and sheets never changed, neither was the bin emptied! Overall I would rate the public areas excellent but the apartments were basic, shabby and not cleaned enough. Great for youngsters wanting cheap accomodation but not for anyone whole likes home comforts. Ps. we were warned of cockroaches but only saw one.

Koka November 2007
19 November 2007
We had a fab time in the Koka apartments we were on our honeymoon there and it was ideally located for everything...
10 min walk to the Yumbo Centre and 10 min walk to the beach.... opposite the apartments is more nightlife and restaurants (although we spent every night in the Yumbo Centre).... ideal for late breakfast!!!
The Koka had one of the best pools and poolside area that we saw in the area and the poolside bar does amazing pizza and hamburgers!! We thoroughly recommend the food!!!
What more can I say the accomodation is basic.... but clean, fab power shower and hot water all the time... the maids came in 3 times and we had to shoo them away when they wanted to come in for the 4th time for the week!!!
Great value for money..... we didn't want to come home and will surely be going back!!!!

Excellently located close to the beach and night life. Basic comfortable accommodation, clean and very well serviced. Swimming pools and gardens clean and well maintained. Staff really friendly and helpful. Can be a little bit noisey at times - but this is your fellow holiday maker! Excellent value.

Koka- May 2007
04 June 2007
Koka was very reasonably priced. The room was a good size and had a lovely balcony with a sea view. The pool was huge and there were lots of sun loungers and very friendly people there as well. It was a bit noisy a couple of nights outside the hotel, but we were so tired we soon fell asleep.
The room was very clean, the cleaners arrived mid afternoon so no early wake up call from them ! There was a kettle and a toaster, very nice bonuses. A great location for those who want to get out and about easily day and night, buses, beach, shops and bars all very close by to suit all tastes.

I had read reviews of these apartments before travelling - some good, some not so good - some bad! My stay there was very good. Basic accommodation, but clean and well serviced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You have a large swimming pool, and plenty of 'garden areas' with sun loungers. The apartments are really central and within walking distance of the beach and shopping. I hope you enjoy yor stay at Koka as much as I did,

Initial impressions were very good. The KOKA look lovely from outside, have a nice pool area and are in an ideal location (near bars shops restaurants etc), However, the apartments themselves are badly in need of a makeover. Ours had pealing paint, shabby furniture, and were situated at the end of a long grubby corridor. Still good value budget accomodation.

The apartments are very basic and a bit dated. Was ok as we were only there for a short time. Worth the money as only £20 a night. We had the club under our apartment as well so would be no good for children. Thanks Sarah

This is an excellent hotel/Apartment block. As the other reviews say, it is clean, friendly, close to many attractions. The staff are most helpful. The one major problem is the Disco that is based beneath the hotel on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The noise from this can be heard throughout the hotel. We were in a ground floor apartment and were awoken on our first Saturday night at about 4 am by this disco which went on until 7am. We complained to the hotel manager who was very understanding but could not do anything about it. She did however, give us a free meal in the restaurant on site. We then suffered the same noise on the following Thursday night, complained again, and again had a very understanding manager who
gave us another room on the 3rd floor for Friday night. Alas the noise woke us again at 4am and continued to keep us awake until 7am again. It is such a pity that this hapened as the hotel is very pleasant as are the staff. We would recommend it to anyone with a warning about this noisy intrusion.

Wow this place is great!! My friends and i had spectacular views of the beach and hotties lying by the pool from our balcony..We were on the top floor which was great for when we wanted to sunbathe on our own! The lively atmosphere was great and the staff were incredibly friendly our only problem was that we were only there for a week! Im definatly going back this year again with my friends and reccommend to anyone who wants the holiday of a lifetime to go there to!! Ooh and the maintenance guy was a main attraction too!!

Review of 'KOKA'
16 November 2006
After reading some reviews on other sites about Koka I was a little concerned prior to arrival - unnecessarily! Arrived late evening, made to feel welcome and directed to block C. First impression was the noise from Kasbah centre - our studio overlooked the centre - however this did not really spoil our holiday, as we joined in the noise-making most evenings! Studio was small, basic, and quite dark, but was kept spotlessly clean by a daily maid service and the towels changed 3 or 4 times during the week. Pool area was kept spotless, cleaned and maintained every day, and not particularly crowded. No children either, apart from the weekend. Would recommend Koka to anyone wanting good quality, cheap, basic accommodation that is perfectly situated to the centre of lively Playa del Ingles.

This hotel is definately for young couples or even groups, its very lively and right in the centre of the place to be!! We had a studio on the ground floor which had its own little garden, which led onto the pool and had its own bar. The food at the bar is delicious! This is a basic apartment which would suit most young people; it has more good points (loads) than bad (not many)and is very cheap, worth the money i definatley recommend it!!

Arrived Sunday morning as disco below was closing - bad first impression. Assigned a room in D Block which was HORRIBLE, I wanted to get back on the plane. But, we moved to the main block which was on the small side but great. Staff lovely, everywhere is v clean. Very well thought out kitchen area which comes with everything you'll need. Gorgeous pool area. A lot of noise from disco on Saturday nights, if you're near the disco you'll hear the music into the morning and if you're looking onto the surrounding streets you'll hear disco goers coming and going.
Playa del Ingles is a mad place for younger people in the peak Summer months but in May it is lovely for couples. Quiet enough but not dead and it has a big mixture of age groups and nationalities.
I'd highly recommend 'El Gaucho' for an evening meal in the Casba shopping area - I've never met nicer people and the food was gorgeous. Slightly more expensive and very modern is Maximilian's on the Av de Tenerife - great place, food and staff. We thought the restaurants around the beach weren't as nice as the restaurants a bit inland. The beach is ok for breakfast and lunch though or a drink in the evening.
Highly recommend Koka and Playa del Ingles.

I had no problems with the Koka, excellent location within easy walking distance of everything and if you can ask for a ground floor room all the better then you get a large terrace within a short stroll of the pool. Koka studios is overall a good quality accomodation in a good location opposite the Kasbah Centre. Rooms on the small side but kept very clean by the excellant maids. Fridge ice compartment broken and also cupboard door broken on hinge remaining like this for the two weeks even though it was reported. Otherwise all staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool area very pleasant and relaxing and this was mopped clean every day. Pool bar open all day 10am to 6pm serving a nice selection of quick meals etc. Internet terminals in reception area. Period March/April paid for fifteen nights £285 per studio.

Just discovered this review page and thought I'd contribute my thoughts! I went to Koka with a friend at the beginning of August last year, and had an excellent time. The accommodation was basic, but very clean - as the previous lady wrote, it was cleaned daily and bed linen changed weekely. Cleaning staff were very friendly indeed, and more than willing to do pretty much anything for you! Within reason of course.
I wouldn't recommend the accommodation for families, particularly not with young children - the complex did tend to get rather noisy in the evenings, and in the wee hours of the morning. For young people though, I'd recommend it highly - the atmosphere was fabulous, and relatively friendly.

The Koka Self Catering Hotel are very well situated within Playa Del Ingles.A short walk to the magnificent beaches and just outside the hotel is a supermarket and busy shopping complex. The room itself is clean with twin beds and a small kitchenette. They also include a balcony and a safety deposit box.The rooms are cleaned daily and bedding change once a week.If you are looking for an affordable, no nonsense stay within a busy and friendly area of Playa del Ingles, then this is the place for you.Would not recommend for families, mainly a young couples resort.
