Review of 'KENSINGTON CLOSE'

30 May 2008
We came for a weekend break and a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. This was my 2nd time at the Kensington Close, and I have been very pleased with the hotel on both occasions. It is just around the corner from the tube station and a short walk from Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall. The room was clean but quite small, the staff all very helpful, polite and friendly and breakfast was great. Good value for a London hotel.

Poor

03 March 2008
Very disappointed with this hotel. On arrival, having specifically requested a double room I was given a twin room because all the double rooms where booked! We were told that would be upgraded to an executive twin room...if that was executive I would not have liked to see an ordinary room. Mould on the windows and a shower in the tiny bathroom which resembled an outside tap!!! The reality for us was very different from the website and its 4 star rating. Had I not paid in advance I would have left and gone to another hotel!

Not Good

15 October 2007
Do not expect much when staying at the Kensington Close. The rooms were tiny. No complimentary toiletries. The continental breakfast was a disaster as there was no cold meats or cheese, only a limited amount of fruit. The english breakfast was buffet style and cold.Had to wait at least ten miniutes for a cup of tea which was cold.

Kensington Close is a great hotel a very short walk from Kensington High Street tube.
As we had 2 teenage girls with us thought they would be very demanding but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We left the bags with the hotel on the last day so we could explore without lugging bags around, a great service offered.
Nice rooms, spotlessly clean, big breakfast(pay the extra for full English when you book, expensive to trade up). Will go again and recommend it to anyone, families or solo.
Nice area to walk around at night, nice little pubs knocking about.

Well organised and attractively furnished room very suitable for single occupancy.  Clean, modern bathroom.  Room generally clean although a rather dirty blanket under the sheets was revealed on examination, eg hairs and dirty marks.  Tea making facilities appreciated.  Room was very quiet and bed comfortable.  Breakfast (continental) was generous with range of cereals, fruits, pastries, etc.  The general facilities of the hotel were good eg lounge seating, spa, internet.  Generally good value and a pleasant stay.

Review of 'KENSINGTON CLOSE'

The hotel offered very basic accommodation, and I was less than impressed with the cleanliness of the place. The first room we were offered as we walked in we were hit with the stench of smoke, so bad that we walked straight out again. The second room although it didn't smell was very, very small and was not very clean. The tiles in the bathroom hadn't been cleaned for god knows how long, there was mould in the grouting and the accessories were rusty. The paintwork was off white rather than white from years of dirt and the walls could have done with a lick of fresh paint. The lobby areas were again very smoky due to lack of ventilation. I would not recommend a stay at this hotel and certainly wouldn't stay again myself.

Excellent welcome and check in. Underground car park with valet service. Hotel light and airy and rooms very clean and well appointed - comfy beds and quiet at night! Bar full of life & friendly. Superb fitness suite, pool & beauty salon. Fantastic location just 5 minutes walk to Kensington High Street. Only had breakfast at hotel and choices and service excellent. Broadband internet access in lobby - UK£1 for 10 minutes. Would recommend to all but elderly travellers as evening bar music may be a bit on the loud side for them.

This hotel provides cheap accomodation with good facilities, ideal for staying overnight having watched a show.Room was small but clean with all necessary facilities for a short term stay.Staff were friendly and always happy to offer advice where possible.
The hotel is 3 mins to the underground so an ideal base for viewing the city.
Visited the Thai restaurant opposite the hotel, nothing great from the outside but food to die for.Had a 15% service charge though!
Hotel provides good packages for shows, food and transport have a look at their website.
Even has a pub style bar at the rear for that night cap after a long day out.
Didnt use the health club as time was limited but for someone looking for some pampering there were loads of massages to choose from!
All in all a good hotel at a reasonable price, book through alpharooms for the best price though.

Review of 'KENSINGTON CLOSE'

The Kensington Close Hotel was adequate for a short stay in London. Rooms are small but well laid out and very comfortable. There was no information booklet in the room outlining things like swimming pool opening times, breakfast times, things to do and see etc. and it would certainly improve service. I found the standard of service overall to be poor. There was no staff present at breakfast to direct or welcome customers. The staff were not rude but were certainly not friendly and not overly helpful when we asked them questions. On the plus side, the hotel is very centrally located.

The hotel is in a great location and the room was very nice. However the set up for breakfast was very poor and I was not told before hand that there was a £5 charge to use the gym facilities.

An excellent value for money hotel for travelling alone on business.  My single room was very clean and spacious and upgrading to the full English breakfast for under a fiver is well worth it!

I really enjoyed my 2 night stay. The room although on the small side was adequate, the air con worked, the bed was comfortable and it was quiet (something I've found hard to find). I have stayed in a few hotels in London on business and highly rate this one. The location is excellent. There are bars, supermarkets, shops right on the doorstop and the tube is just round the corner. The gym is good as is the pool.

Easy to walk to from Kensington High Street Tube with luggage.  Quiet area of London, barely any traffic noise. Very efficient updated room with very good WC shower & bath with good water pressure.  Very clean linens, white duvet (no stains).  Opening window - also heat/air.  Great London hotel for price.  Included breakfast which was adequate as a starter - canned fruit, limited choice but ok.  Had to wait an extra hour to check into non smoking room but areas to wait.  Staff friendly and courteous.  Restaurants nearby.  Not central - out of the way from night life which suited us.  Would stay again.

The hotel was excellent value for money. The room was smart and clean the bathroom modern and spacious. The hotel reception and concierge staff helpful and efficient. For the motorist there are a few free parking bays right outside the hotel entrance. For the London Tourist the nearest underground station is a three minute walk away. If you prefer taxi there is a taxi rank at the hotel. For the shopper, Kensington High Street is a two minute walk. There are numerous snack/coffee/restaurants very close to the hotel but I ate in the Italian Restaurant whichserved good quality food and was excellent value for money. Despite it's central location the hotel is in a quiet street consequently there was no traffic noise at night.
I will happily stay again when travelling with my husband - so this review is not only based on the solo traveller but also the mature traveller. Having said that i an sure the younger traveller would be equally happy with the facilities and location.

I stayed here with my mother-in-law in May and generally found the hotel to be of a good standard. The rooms are on the small side, but clean with nice ensuite. The staff are friendly, especially the concierge staff who were very helpful. It is in a great location, 3 mins walk from the tube and Kensington High St, but off the main road, so quiet. The only criticism is the rather mean continental breakfast - but overall excellent value and I would stay here again.

The hotel is right near the tube station but in a nice quiet location.  Was pleasantly surprised.  Friendly staff, good cleanliness however the rooms are very small.  Not really a problem for us as we were out and about in London most of the time :)  The continental breakfast was quite good but the room was quite small and quite often there wasn't enough room for all the guests to sit down and you had to wait for tables.  I would definitely come and stay again but I wouldn't want to spend a 2 week holiday here as some of the American and Australian tourists we met there were.

really good hotel, very close to Kensington High Street tube (200m) Really quiet, clean and modern room, quite small, but enough room for two adults for one night. Hotel was the same, everything was kept to an excellent standard. The staff were all very helpful, especially when it came to leaving our bags for the rest of the day that we checked out so we didnt have to lug them around. Would definitely go back and stay here again- it was great value for money, i'd give it 10 out of 10.

The Kensington Close hotel was a warm, friendly and extremely comfortable hotel. The rooms were tastefully decorated and had all the necessary luxuries required. The breakfast was well presented and was very appetising. This a hotel I would highly recommend and a hotel where I will certainly be staying again.

I normally book total dives by mistake, however was quite surprised at this one!! Reasonably good by my standards. Close to the tube so convenient for getting around when the lines weren't disrupted by signal failures. The room was clean and although quite small, plenty of space for a single traveller. I did have trouble working out how to increase the temperature of the room as for March it was freezing outside!! The staff were generally pleasant and helpful. A highlight of the stay though was watching the in bar entertainment supplied by a mouse that came out every evening for a mad runaround!! Probably why I can only give 3 rather than 4 because mice are not considered healthy. If you don't mind mice though, its a good place to stay.
