Hotel Union May 2008
06 June 2008
My husband and I stayed at the Union for 4 nights in May and found the hotel to be very good and the whole stay very pleasant. The room was clean and bright-it was a little basic however their prices are very competitive and as we were out in the town most of the time we were more than happy with the facilities, and their were no disappointments, I think most of the reviews on this site are accurate.
On the second night we had a meal in the restaurant, and it was excellent. We are both vegetarians, and found a good range of meat free dishes on the menu. The soup starter was delicious, as was the dessert, and the main course was excellent. It was outstandingly good value too (approx £35 for 2 x 3 course meal and drinks).
The staff were very friendly and helpful, we were able to buy tram tickets and book a tour at reception, and the tram stop is outside the hotel so their was no risk of getting lost.
I appreciate other comments regarding the noise from the trams, however we were in a room at the front of the hotel, and whilst you could hear the trams we did not feel the noise was intrusive-and as a plus, the tram service is excellent, clean, fast, frequent and incredibly cheap.
The hotel is ideally placed if you do not want to stay in the main town, it is no more than 15 mins on the tram to the centre of town, and is excellent value for money.

22 March 2008
From the description of the hotel we excepted the rooms to be slightly nicer, however it was all we needed. It was clean and warm the staff were friendly and helpful. Took us about 30 minutes to walk into the centre. It's a beautiful city be prepared to do a lot of walking and take hat and gloves cause it's freezing.

Union March 2008

This hotel has a few issues which prospective guests should be aware of.
Overall we agree with other reviews covering the hotel, staff and food this cannot be faulted. The main problem is noise. In addition to the trams we were surprised to see a railway line just across the street. I have not seen another review mention this. It was almost impossible to sleep the first night as the trains ran all through the night. We purchased ear plugs to use for the remaining three nights. The other point worth mentioning is the lack of other restaurants in the area. If you don't want to eat in the hotel every night then you have to head off back down town. I must be fair and point out that a 3 course meal for two plus a drink can be had in the hotel for less than £25.

mid week break
16 March 2008
We stayed here in early March 2008, on a half board basic, we were pleasantly suprised at the quality of the hotel for a 3* accommodation. it was very clean and comfortable, the staff spoke very good english and were very helpful, the breakfast was excellent , however the evening meal could have had more choices (no choice of starter, only two options for the main meal, no choice for the sweet) however on the possitive side the food was good and well presented. The hotel location to the center of prague was excellent, with trams going every 10minutes from right outside the hotel. transport in prague was very reasonable and reliable. if i ever return to prague i would stay in this hotel, and would recommend it to anyone going to prague

We have just returned from our second visit to Hotel Union and would certainly stay there again. The room was very comfortable, staff very friendly. The breakfasts are excellent, we had a meal in the restaurant and it was delicious. The bar is very comfortable a nice place to just sit and have a quiet drink. The location is excellent and the transportation in Prague is brilliant. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel Union. Prague
11 February 2008
We stayed here for one week at the end of January 2008. We had a quite room at the back of the Hotel. The hotel was very clean and tidy, staff were very friendly and spoke good English. The breakfast was amasing, and the walk into Prague centre just took 30 minutes, walk your legs off and then catch the number 24 tram back which stops right outside the hotel. we had a wonderful stay and if we return to Prague we will stay here again. We have recommended it to all our friends.

This is a really nice hotel with very helpful staff. On the negative the beds were too hard and the tram noise kept me awake so if you sleep lightly (like me) this may be an issue but there are rooms at the back of the hotel if need be. This hotel is in a good location just a short tram ride into the centre. The hotel food is cheap and good quality and for what we paid for the room it was an absolute bargain. Will definitely return to Prague.

Good quality hotel
09 November 2007
I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it is very close to the centre of Prague, only 10 minutes on tram 24 into wenceslas square.
Hotel was nice, large rooms with a decent bed, and lovely bathroom.
My room was on the front of the hotel overlooking the road and trams, the noise from the trams wasnt as bad as i thought, although i am a heavy sleeper.
the food at the hotel was good and the evening dinner was very cheap.
There is a lovely italian restaurant just down the road towards the high bridge and is cheap.
Prague is a nice place, and i would reccommend this hotel for a good place to stay, friendly staff as well

Just returned from 4 day trip to Prague & hotel Union. Used previous reviews on this site to guide us. Had a smashing time, what a pretty city! just like a film set with coloured, ornately decorated buildings. Hotel in an ideal spot, away from the hustle & bustle of the city, but near enough by tram. [tram pass is 220k -about £5.50] Hotel very nice, big beds, good chec food, english speaking staff. Booked a 3 hr trip [through hotel] around city & tour of Prague castle. Well worth the trip, as we were picked up at hotel, had english speaking guide, &fellow brits on tour. We were left in city centre & by then we had an idea where places were, with help from the free map provided by the hotel.
Used Alpharooms & Transferstore for the first time, had no problems, all very easy, & would use them again & stay in hotel Union again.

13 June 2007
This was our second visit to Prague and the Hotel Union and to be frank I would not consider taking the time or trouble to check out any other accomodation. This hotel is perfect for a short city break; it is situated close enough to the city centre for easy access but far enough away for the peace & quiet necessary for winding down after a day's sightseeing. The hotel is extremely clean with pleasant and helpful staff; the rooms are kept spotlessly clean and anything you might require to make your stay more comfortable is readily available (i.e. extra pillows etc). The food is first class (both breakfasts and evening meals with plenty of options for all tastes) and the drinks at the bar are very favourably priced. All in all a perfect base and I have already recommended the Union to several of my friends who are cosidering a visit to Prague.

My wife and I have just returned from a short stay at the Hotel Union. We found the hotel extremely good value, our room was like a small suite, the breakfasts were excellent. Review of 'HOTEL UNION'
26 March 2007
We have just returned from a five day trip to Prague and stayed in the Union for the four nights. You know what it's like when you get a bargain - will it be good enough? - will it be clean? Should we have paid more? Well we shouldn't have worried as the hotel is excellent value. As soon as you walk in the door you know it's going to be ok with the bright foyer and bar area, and it's very clean. The staff are pleasant and most have good English.
There are five floors, we were on the third but there is a lift. Yes, you could hear the trams but not that much you couldn't sleep. Breakfast was good with a variety of food buffet style including hot and cold alternatives - lovely fruit and yogurt for the health conscious.
It does take 9 minutes on the tram to get into the Centre and worth noting that the number 24 takes you into Wenceslas Square. If you want the old town, turn left from the tram stop and carry on down the road where you will find lots of restaurants and a wonderful jazz bar - well worth a visit. The number 18 tram takes you into Prague but goes across the river and near the castle - also a must.
All in all this was a well worth and enjoyable trip - even if the weather was absolutely freezing, something the hotel Union couldn't do anything about!

Ive just come back from prague.Wow what can i say except brill.I stayed for 3 nights at the hotel union. It is very clean and the staff are very friendly. The continental breakfast is great, but i wouldnt advise staying for an evening meal. The price of local beer is very reasonable.I would advise you to go for a walk in the local area especially to Vysehrad Castle,as you come out of the hotel lobby, cross over the road(tram lines) you will see a massive old wall in front of you.Go under the subway (just before the bus stop) and follow the road up, there is a winding path through some trees (stay on this path)and it will bring you out at the top of the wall, follow this path and go through the tunnel, there will be some steps off to your left(go up these)and then turn right.Follow the road and you get to the castle.I would suggest that you stay on the main pathway and follow it round to the very end. Here you will see the most breathtaking views of prauge, and it didnt cost a single penny. There is also a very beutifull cemetary in the grounds where whole families and it seems the very rich are buried, it is worth a look, some of the headstones are amazing. The walk from the hotel to the casele takes about 10 minutes.

11 March 2007
We have just returned following a 3 night stay at the Hotel Union. The accommodation was excellent and very clean. The Hotel restaurant served excellent food. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was very good as the trams into the centre of Prague were directly outside the Hotel and it takes 9 minutes to get into town. The rooms are spacious and have a mini bar containing very reasonably priced drinks. I would certainly recommend this Hotel.

Staff very polite and will always help with problems. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone who wants a place to stay during a short break in Prague. Breakfast was good and plentiful and the main Resteraunt was very nice and cheap with good food. Beer was 40 Koruna FOR 0.5 LITRES what more can I say.

13 February 2007
We travelled to Prague on a short break, and stayed at the Hotel Union. I felt confident staying at this hotel after reading the reviews on this hotel. Other reviews will tell you the hotel is 20 minutes from Prague centre this is more like 5-10 minutes depending on trams, which in most cases run every couple of minutes. The added benefit of the hotel being slightly outside the centre the area is quiet and peaceful (apart from the trams which run just outside the hotel) but by the second night you forget they are there, after all the walking you are to tired to care anyway. The hotel is clean, tidy and well kept; the rooms are spacious and well equipped. Breakfast is served buffet style with plenty to choose from continental to cooked breakfast. The food served in the restaurant is of a good standard and reasonably priced, the bar is well stocked and stays open until 1am. I would definitely recommend this hotel excellent value for money.

This Hotel is very worthy of it's 3 stars. We had breakfast and evening meal, which was very enjoyable. The evening meal was served until 10pm which was very convienent because there is so much to see in Prague. We had a Roof space Suite which was very spacious and accomodating. The only downside, would be the noise of the trams below, but that did't bother us. " too knackered". The hotel is situated away from the City centre, but a scenic stroll along the river soon leads you to Charles Bridge. May I say Prague in December is truly beautiful all those christmas stalls and carefully dressed trees.

A Very Merry Xmas at the 'HOTEL UNION'
29 December 2006
On arriving at the Hotel we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who spoke good English and made us feel very welcome on Christmas Eve. Our room was on the top floor (5th) but the lift was in great order and made coming and going effortless.
The room was nice with all the basic necessaries and was very good value for money. It had good ensuite facilies which included a shower, bath, wash basin and a built in hair dryer.
There were also a TV but most channels are in czech or german and there isn't much need for it and a mini bar.
The only negatives to the room and these are slight are that the double bed is actually two singles pushed together. They are also extremely hard and the pillows a little thin. This got a little uncomfortable after a few days. Also although on the fifth floor we didn't have a great view because we were on the side of the building. Don't let these reasons put you off becasue we had a magical time never the less.
The breakfast at the Hotel was excellent with a range of hot continental food e.g eggs, sausage, potatoes, chips ect ect cold meats and cheese and a good selection of cerals and bread. This was acompanied by tea or coffee and lots of fruit juice. Fresh fruit were also available.
The Hotel is postioned about 20mins walk from the main centre of prague. It is quite easy to walk and easy to find but you can alteratively get the Tram which stops right outside the Hotel. Before travelling to Prague we were warned about pick pockets and we had realtives who had been robbed on the tram but we limited what we had on us and found no problems on the journeys we took.
Overall we had a great time and it was a good way to spend Christmas we would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to do something a little different at this festive time of year.

The Hotel Union filled all our expectations with it being clean, quiet and very helpful staff. The breakfast was superb with a wide selection on hot and cold food. Dinner was reasonably priced and was very tasty. We walked to town the first day which took 30min but was a romantic walk along the river bank. The staff helped us with transport and the tram took 10 min, stopped right outside our hotel and ran every 10-15 min. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would return again.

Stayed here half board from 30th October to 3rd November. The previous reviewers have it right, this hotel is an excellent 3 star choice and we had a good stay there and can recommend the Union. Some points come to mind: * If you have a room at the front of the hotel it can be noisy with the trams which run a very frequent service. * We stayed half board and we can confirm that the food was good, however on our first night we were given the full menu by the waiter then when he realised that we were half board he quickly whipped that away and gave us a menu with a choice of two main meals and no choice of starter or sweet which we thought was a bit cheap on the hotels part. Finally we have to thank everyone at Alpharooms for providing an excellent service, we will be booking again soon.

We stayed at the Union 10th/13th October and I have got to say what a nice clean and pleasent hotel, the staff were great and the evening meals--- we had an evening meal on our first night fantastic portions plus a dessert plus seven beers and five Jamesons over two nights, I checked on line what I had paid and it was £21 odd, absolutely cracking, if it has a fault it could be the shunting of the trains early on but don't let that put you off, take some earplugs, I would stay there again like a shot. The tram is only some 30 yards from the hotel and three or four tram stops up the line is a fantastic piza place (which I have forgoten the name of) but you can't miss it.

We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable and within easy reach of the city (trams stop right outside, and run frequently through the day or evening, with Charles Bridge just 6 stops away. Tickets can be bought from the Reception Desk). The half-board option, allows for a very reasonable break and the food is good. We would definitely consider using the Union Hotel again -but if your room is on the first floor, we recommend light sleepers use earplugs, due to the rumbling of the trams.

The hotel was really lovely and clean. The breakfasts and evening meals were very nice and there was plenty of choice. The receptionists were very helpful. Very comfortable stay. It is just outside the town but the trams were just outside the hotel and they run every 5 minutes, and cheap fares too. The only drawback was the wine cellar wasn't open at all. Very nice Hotel. We were on the fifth floor, which is actually the attic. Loved it plenty of room, shower head fixed to taps which worked fine for washing your hair but no use for a proper shower. Always plenty off hot water. Bed was two single beds pushed together, which is fine, plenty off room, but really hard, if I had one complaint it was that the bed was far too hard. It took a couple of nights to get accustomed to them and the pillows were thin. Doubled over the pillow did improve matters. The food in the hotel was really excellent, in fact it was better than excellent, we ate there on the first night due to the fact we arrived late and on the last night. We regretted not eating there more often. Also step out of the front door and straight onto the tram number 18 and you are right into the old town in no time. It didn’t bother us but the trams do run most of the night, but if you have a problem there are some rooms away from that side of the building. We would/may go back again.

The English speaking Receptionist couldn't do enough for us - she sorted out our tram tickets and tour info., and even ordered pizza for us in the hotel bar on our arrival, because we arrived late at night starving!
