Not great

30 July 2008
A hotel it is not. These are actually apartments. On the whole, for a 'cheap and cheerful' place to stay then Cenachero apartments are okay. You get a minimum of cooking and eating utensils/appliances and enough space for two people to easily share for the week. Unimpressed with no collection or store of fresh towels or bed linen, pretty skanky really, feels like you're roughing it a bit. The town of El Palo is not a very friendly or inviting place, with little in the way of restaurants (some of the food was truly awful) and encountered a level of hostility from some the locals. A good place to stay if you're on a budget but not a place to hang out. As mentioned by others below, there is a bus into Malaga for 1 Euro, Malagueta beach is lovely and there are lots of shops and places to eat and drink at. Definitely take a phrase book...I guess that's obvious. Overall - a reasonable place to stay, not a great town so head for Malaga Central if you're looking for something to do!

We were impressed with the standard of our room - which importantly for us also had air-conditioning! The long beach and beach-front restaurants are only 10 mins walk away and as mentioned elsewhere the no. 11 bus into Malaga itself runs very frequently there and back, and is just under a Euro. (By the way, you can save yourself a load on the taxi fare, by getting a no. 19 from the airport to Malaga, and then a no. 11 into El Palo. Though for convenience we just did this on the return journey home). El Palo - which is far more relaxed than Malaga itself - really gave a feel of a genuine Spanish experience - but it also helps if you speak some basic Spanish words - or take a phrase-book! If you want a change from the local fish cuisine there's a really good Chinese restaurant nearby which is very reasonably priced.
Overall - very good value for money indeed and a good holiday!

The apartment was fairly basic but comfortable. El Palo was called a fishing village on the web but it is a very big town and not at all touristy. There was however one fantastic fish restaurant, El Tintero 2, there is no menu, the waiters bring around dishes that have been prepared and if you like the look of them you simply call them over and get on with it. The food was superb.El Palo also has an excellent bus service, number 11, into Malaga, it takes about half an hour and costs 95 cents. There are hardly any taxis in El Palo only the ones passing through.

When booking on-line, the accommodation was described as minutes from Airport, where in fact, it was 40 minutes in a taxi and cost 20 euros!. I read it to be minutes from Airport, then into Malaga whereas the apartment was almost "out" of Malaga.  Fortunately, El Palo has a very efficient bus service and the number 11 to Almeda Principal was very helpful.   Apartment nice, although disappointing at lack of cooking utensils...(only provided with one pot and one frying pan - and no cloth to dry dishes).  Also, sofa had marks upon and a simple wash would have improved the look!    Apartments in a nice quiet area, which was nice.

Hi everyone, first of all if you choose to go to Malaga city for vacations, you have chosen the good destination!! The hotel Cenachero is quite a charming place where you will you have all you need; we had booked a studio and were very pleased of our stay. It is clean, calm, there is everything you need, a kitchen, a sofa, tv, bathroom...the staff is very helpfull, you just feel at home! I think it is owned by a family, which gives it a human life. We whished we could have stayed there longer but it was unfortunately fully booked, the owner helped us find another hotel for a price as good as it is there. You won't find anything cheaper in the area. About the area, it is the most lovely one in Malaga, I have been living in this city for 5 months and wanted to be in El Palo for my vacations. To go in the center for the night life, take the night bus(one every 1/2 hour)not even a minute from the hotel or a cab which is also very cheap. During the day, just go straight ahead and you will find the best beaches and restaurants of the city!
Enjoy your stay in Malaga and in El Cenachero, have fun!!
