I think it would be great if they can tell us where to take the bus and when to get off at their hotel description otherwise you may have troublesome experience

Comfortable and Clean

13 June 2008
Very clean and presentable, staff are very friendly and respectful (esp Sergio) and most of them can speak good English; 10-15 mins ride to the centre; bus station nearby. Minor glitch though, you still have to pay for internet (£1.50 for 30 mins) and internet is sometimes down. But overall hotel is excellent, I will definitely come back.

Great Hotel

17 March 2008
Just returned home after attending the Italy V Scotland rugby international. The Hotel Caravel was an excellent place to stay. Staff very helpfull, room clean and comfortable, even the mini bar prices were cheap. Very easy to get to main attractions, bus 714 or metro 15 mins away. I will definitely use this hotel again.

Excellent Hotel

29 August 2007
I have just came back from a trip to Rome and stayed in this hotel with my partner. We stayed for a week and found the hotel to be very clean and although some of the staff can be offhand one particular member was extremly helpful and friendly. The reception staff can speak very good english but some of the bar/breakfast staffs english is limited but this was not a problem. The staff seem to react better to you if you at least try and communicate with them in Italian, which we did, and even had a joke about it with the staff by the end of the week. Breakfast is very good quality with loads of things to choose from. This is normally served between 7am-10am. We had, from what I could tell from other rooms, a semi-refurbished room, which consisted of a modern bathroom but there was no door out to the balcony, which would have been better so we could enjoy it as the only way out was to climb through the window! The room is cleaned daily with linen changed twice a week, I think, we made out bed everyday anyway. Although you do get fresh towels every day. The hotel is a good 20min walk from the main attractions but this is not a problem as if you take a left when you step out the door then another left at the traffic lights and walk straight down the road you come to a metro station which costs 1 euro for a one way ticket and 4euros for a daily ticket which also does on the bus services. This proved to be the best way to see the city and meant that we didn't have to eat out in the city centre all the time which can be expensive and sometimes get the impression that some of the restaurants make up the prices as they go along when they realise you are a tourist. To overcome this problems I would recommend gettin the Lonely Planets guide to Rome book before setting of on your journey which offers loads of tips on everything you would ever need to know about Rome including which restaurants are best to eat in. This proved invaluable to us and all the restaurants we tried were fantastic. Overall we found the hotel to be of very good quality for money and intend to come back to stay the next time we visit Rome.

A very pleasant hotel, where most of the renovations are now complete. Rooms are a little basic but good value for the money. All rooms have a balcony, and we were at the front of the hotel, top floor which had fantastic views. The new double glazing meant that traffic could not be heard. Breakfast was adequate, cereals fruits, bread, ham chesse etc. No hot food. If you go to Ciampino, get the shuttle bus to the centre, (6 euros each) and then get the 175 or 160 from the main termini (1 euro each). The bus stops outside the hotel. Do not pay 50 euros for a cab, it should only be 30 from the airport. Overall a very pleasant stay, nice hotel, good staff and would return.

The hotel is clean and our room was good for the money, but rather noisy at night both in terms of the traffic and the rather thin walls between rooms!  The breakfast and the service at reception were good.  Once you get the hang of the buses it is pretty easy and cheap to get into the centre of Rome, but the information provided in the hotel is not very reliable.  The 'Vatican' express bus 30 didn't go very near the Vatican! It would have been quicker to catch the 160 and walk!

my fiance booked the a holiday at the caravel as a surprise for christmas which we were both really looking forward to until we arrived there to find half of the reception missing and undergoing work and the bar closed and as we were planning on a relaxing holiday it was ruined as we could not sit and relax and have a drink and talk, we were not aware of this work as we would not have booked if we knew. the rooms are very baisc and the bathrooms are small and not too pleasant, i will not be advising that people go there.

This Hotel, is slightly off the beaten track.    you need to take a bus into the main part of rome which takes about 15 - 20 minutes.    It is on a very busy main road.   The accommodation itself is simple but very clean.   It is as depicted in the pictures on the website.     The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and ensured that the stay was pleasant.    The hotel is situated in a red light district and a number of girls were touting outside and nearby the hotel.    They were not interfering with anyone however and kept themselves to themselves.    For the reasonable price of the hotel room this is a good location to stay if you are willing to get a taxi home from the main centre.   There are also some lovely shops and a couple of bars about 10 - 15 minutes walk away.   Not ideal for anyone who wishes for a scenic quiet place to stay.    Good for money saving short stay as a stop gap.

We stayed at Caravel for 3 nights during december. The hotel was very good value and was very clean. The room was not that modern, but had all the facilities you require for short break. Breakfast was good and even the food in the bar was nice as well. Town is a 20 minute bus ride away or about 13 euros in a taxis.

Stayed for 3 nights in November 2006. Great budget hotel, with clean, well appointed rooms, although not modern, but with comfitable bed, sat tv, hairdrier, air con, etc. Buffet breakfast was good too, cereals, cakes, fruit, cheese and ham etc. The hotel is a 20 min bus ride from the central station on local bus 714 - ideal for joining city tours and shopping (only 1 euro per 75 min ride). Friendly staff and nearby reasonably priced restuarant too.

The hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful. The hotel is in the business area of Rome and about 1/2 hour bus trip from the centre of Rome.Once you get used to travelling on the bus, the hotel is situated in a good area not much to do at night so we had to stay in Rome all day and only travel back at night but this was not a problem.A most enjoyable holiday and the people were very friendly and helpful we will be going back

Stayed here 3 nights in August 2006. Great Place to stay if your on a budget. While our room was not very modern, it was spotlessly clean and well appointed. Air con was good, comfy bed, sat tv, hairdrier etc. Buffet Breakfast was good too, cereals, cakes, fruit, cheese and ham etc. The hotel is a 20 min bus ride from the centre by bus 130 / 30 at 1 euro each way, and 500m from the the railway station Osteiense. Which is great as the train is every 30 mins to the airport (5 euro). Staff were friendly too. Going back again next year for sure.

Very good value hotel which although  not in centre of rome is in a good spot links.  Rooms are very clean with good bathrooms, air conditioning, room safe tv.  Staff are helpful and friendly and there is a bar which serves light snacks are reasonable p;rices (much cheaper than Rome centre which is a rip off!) Not many facilities in immediate location of hotel but fantastic family run pizzaria within short walking distance. There is a pizza place  10 metres from hotel but would not recommend this. We ate there 1 night - food passable but mixed salad contained a live insect!  Good all round hotel with very good value for money.  Would recommend for short break

We used the metro - a good walk from hotel, but market stalls and shops along the way were a good distraction. Hotel excellent for price paid. Good breakfast, reasonable fridge/bar in room. We had a balcony and air conditioning. No complaints. Free safety deposit box. This is a must in Rome as I was pick-pocketed on bus. Luckily I only had small amount of cash - cards were in the safe!

Review of 'HOTEL CARAVEL'

25 May 2006
While it was quite basic, it was comfortable and we felt we got very good value on accommodation here. It is a good distance from central Rome but we quickly got a grasp of transport systems and managed easily. Bus stops are nearby and the METRO is a 12 minute walk.  Just a few negative points:
1: when we arrived hotel was unable to provide us with a single sheet map of Rome -the best they could do was give us a magazine which had a map over two separate page
2: repeating what another reviewer has said, don't buy the voucher for 'special fixed price' taxi to airport (Ciampino in our case). It is an absolute rip-off costing us €40 euro but the Taxi meter for the trip registered only €19.95

I have to admit that the hotel was further out of the town than I wished. The accomodation was adequate, though the constant traffic would have been a problem if we had stayed in all day. Once we got used to the access to the Metro system, things got better. But thanks to Alpharooms, everything that we asked for was there.

The Hotel Caravel was ideal for a short stay in Rome the rooms were very clean and offered everything you need with out frills the reception staff were helpfull if you asked questions the only down side to this hotel is there are no evening eating facilities so evening meals were a slight problem but there was a very good resterant about 50m along the road again fine if you are only there for a short stay.  It is slightly away from the main area and watch you airport taxi fares to Ciampeno you should be paying no more than 25e

Was very happy with the booking. The hotel was a short bus ride from the train station, and the helpful people at the tourist information were able to tell us where to go and what number to get. The hotel was clean, however the bathrooms were very small. The breakfast was alright, but the staff were not that helpful. The internet access was not working when we were there, which caused us problems as the nearest point was back in town. However it was generally easy to get to, and the buses run till quite late. The bus takes you to the main bus station, which is handy navigate around the town.

Suited our needs for our five day trip to Rome.  Very reasonable & clean.  A good half hour's walk to the Coliseum - say about 2 miles, but not a problem as we enjoyed the walk!  Can't say the staff on reception were very helpful, nor the serving staff (bar one)at breakfast time.

This Hotel served us well for our short but wonderful visit to Rome. All the staff were exceptionally helpful & their use of the English language was impeccable, which helped greatly with any queries we had. Our only issue was the lack of tea & coffee making facilities, but this really wasn't a major problem as we were not in the hotel for many hours of our stay!!!!
We found the hotel quite a trek from the centre of Rome but again not really a problem as we enjoyed the walking, and once you get to learn the appropriate bus routes, it was fine.
We would certainly book through alpharooms again, and the Hotel Caravel certainly suited our needs.

This was our first time booking with Alhpa Rooms and we were totally satisfied.  The Hotel was extremly large in comparison to most 3star hotels in Rome.  The room was excellent with all the amenities we hoped for.  The size was great, the bathroom was great and the breakfast was just delicious.  The staff at the desk were really helpful and the breakfast room staff were excellent. The Hotel is located just at a bus stop and tickets can be bought at reception.  We could not find any fault in our accommodation.  We will be recommending this hotel and Alpha rooms to all our friends.
