Excellent budget hotel
27 June 2007
We researched lots of budget Paris hotels before choosing this hotel (most budget hotels had second-rate/dirty rooms, and substandard breakfasts). This certainly isn’t the case with the Campanile Bastille – we would quickly recommend this hotel to anyone, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
The hotel is well served by two metro stations, each no more than 3 – 4 minutes away at a slow walking pace. The area surrounding the hotel seems very safe (we were sat out at on a pavement bar by the hotel in the early hours, and we didn’t notice any shifty characters of any kind).
We arrived early at the hotel, but our room was already available. The staff at the reception were courteous, and explained all about the hotel accessibility, breakfast and bar timings. The front door is locked at 19:00, but reception is open 24 hours, and all you need to do is press a buzzer to access the hotel after 19:00. The bar is open until 02:00, if you need it. Breakfast is served until 11:00.
We had a room on the 2nd floor, and although it was road facing, there was no noise at all (the hotel is on the corner of two quiet roads). The room was small, but that seems to be the case with all Paris budget hotels. We had a very large double bed, although one side is against the wall (this doesn’t bother us though). There is a small wardrobe, with a number of hangers, but no other storage other than a desk under the window. As we stayed for 3 nights, this wasn’t a problem, but I imagine it might be for a longer stay. There is a TV, but we never turned it on, so we can’t say what channels they showed. There isn’t a safe in the room, but that didn’t really bother us. The room could be temperature controlled, through a thermostat. The room had a kettle and provided tea, coffee and biscuits, replenished on a daily basis.
The bathroom was well designed, and had plenty of room to move around in. The shower was over the bath, and was incredibly powerful – good to revive you after a long day in the city. Towels were replaced every day.
There was a large breakfast room, with an extension into a garden if the weather is good enough. There was an excellent variety for breakfast including (but not limited to) cereals, cold meats, yoghurts, rolls, croissants, toast, eggs and fruit. You weren’t limited to how much you could eat as seems the case in some budget hotels.
Overall, we were left with a very positive impression of the hotel. Recommended to all.
