What a Gem

12 June 2008
This is a little Spanish hotel within the heart of La Carihuela perfectly situated, very clean, friendly staff, so close to the beach that when eating your breakfast you can see the sea, have been there several times and will continue to return there.

Perfectly adequate

24 April 2008
Stayed one night at this hotel and left very early in the morning (so cannot comment on the breakfast). Staff very pleasant and smiley. No lift so be prepared to lug your suitcase up the stairs. Room very clean (in fact, got hit by an overwhelming smell of bleach when I first opened the door). Quite noisy. Beach literally on the other side of the 'road', plenty of places to eat on either side of the hotel. Hotel has a nice patio where you can sit and watch the sea (and passersby).

Very Good

Having read reviews I was very curious and wanted to stay there and see if was true. Yes it is true! What more could you want for your money, clean, next to the beach, very good value and friendly staff. A great credit to the manager.

Just returned from a short break ( 5 nights ) at this hotel and I can endorse all the good things previous reviews have mentioned re the Hotel. Hotel however is a bit of a misnomer as accomodation is bed and breakfast and if you are into the full Irish /English you will be disappointed by a toasted roll and a cup of coffee (luckily we had our own teabags as tea was not on offer) . However there are plenty of restaurants/pubs less than 3 mins from the hotel which will provide you with the more usual fare for less than a fiver, try The Black Bull just around the corner. I would not reccommend this accomodation to people with young children as there is no way mum and dad will have any break from childminding or anyone with mobility problems as taxi will only drop you at the top of the street but its ideal for people of a certain age with nobody to please but themselves. As it was early in the season and still cold enough at night we were spared the night time noise mentioned by other reviewers but as the area is totally pedestranised and well lit I can see this could be a major problem when the nights are warm. TV in the room is no addition unless you speak Spanish but a nice touch was a clock radio which provided music and chat from a local English station. Prices in nearby shops and restaurants are quite reasonable no neccessity to travel into Torremolinos for shopping. Beach is only 2 mins away from hotel and promenade area is ideal for walking to Benalmedina or Torremolinos, however once you come away from the beach its all uphill so again would not suit anyone with mobility problems.

Super Hotel and Welcome

13 August 2007
Our first reason for booking this hotel was the price as it was cheap therefore we were prepared to have below standard hotel. This is not the case the hotel was superb, friendly owners and locals with great prices for drinks. The location is also superb as its is literally 200 yrds from the beach. There is alos a lovely fountain in front of the hotel which is a big photographic feature for walkers by. Quite location but easy and enjoyable walking distance from everything you could want. We will be going back.

Torremolinos Heaven!

05 May 2007
This is a gem of a hotel. Taxi from the airport is approx 17-20 euros depending on what the taxi driver thinks he can get away with, journey no more than 15 mins. We were travelling in a group of 6 girls age range from 26 - 42. The hotel & rooms truly spotless and comfortable. Staff very friendly and location is just perfect. Breakfast is tea/coffee and toast. Apologies to the waiter for the condition we presented ourselves in the morning ;o) The beds were the most comfortable I have slept on in a hotel. The rooms have a TV & air con. The bathrooms are small and dated but perfectly functional. Fresh towels every day! I have stayed in worse 3/4 star hotels. The location is actually in the La Carhiuella district between Torremolinos and Benalmadena. It is on a pedestrianised street so Taxis can't take you to/from the hotel. Also most taxi drivers didn't know how to get to the hotel so if you stay there, take a wee tip, there are leaflets in the reception area with a small map on the back so take this with you when you go out and show it to the taxi driver! Picture this - 6 of us were out, 3 in one taxi 3 in the other. We got back to hotel first. 20 mins later the other 3 senioritas were still not back. They phoned me to say the taxi driver was lost! I had to guide the taxi driver (on a mobile phone) in my broken Glaswegian/Spanish/Inebriated lingo reading from a Spanish phrase book, directions! What a laugh, but hey he got there in the end. The area is typically Spanish with lots of fish restuarants, even the upmarket ones were very reasonable. A meal for 6 with nice quality wine and Irish coffees, infact the whole shebang no more than £180. We ate in a lovely Italian restuarant, but be careful they tried to charge us 90 euros for one bottle of vino collapso but we noticed it and they quickly changed the bill. The beach is very clean and there are sectioned off areas with sunloungers 4 euros each. There is a masseuse who will do you for 30 euros an hour. Heaven right on the beach! All in all a perfect holiday for us girls and we will definately be back.

Best spot in Carihuela

01 May 2007
You get a lot more than you expect - and pay for. Just stayed at Cabello for 11 days in April. Great view, situated on the best open square in Carihuela, the cafe area with the perfect place for watching life a people - very pleasant people running the place and the prices will make you want to go back - we will go there again and recommend Cabello for singles and couples that have learned big 5 star hotels are all alike and too far away from local life. Bring earplugs if you are not used to have other people next door. We have never been more relaxed - could have spent the whole vacation justt sitting outside the hotel.

Nice Hotel

26 April 2007
We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms basic but clean. Might be an idea to take earplugs and people walking about at night and shutting their doors tends to echo! Breakfast was a toasted roll and coffee but very nice. Lovely area with good restaurants and better quality shops than in Torremolinos. Don't go to Gibraltar - it's a rip-off! All in all we had a good stay!

EXCELLENT LOCACTION FOR SHOPS RESTAURANTS BARS BEACH AND LOCAL TRANSPORT.THE OWNERS WHO SPEAK SPANISH AND ENGLISH(AS WELL AS STAFF MEMBERS) ARE SO FREINDLY YOU JUST FEEL RIGHT AT HOME. THE ROOMS ARE OF EXCELLENT STANARD, AND YOU ARE NEVER RUSHED BY MAIDS WHO CHANGE TOWELS ect EVERY DAY.THE HOTEL HAS SMOKING AND NON SMOKING AREAS, WITH NO RESTICTION TO YOUR ROOM. THE BAR PRICES ARE MORE THAN REASONABLE IN FACT VERY CHEAP!  I TRAVEL TO THIS AREA ABOUT EVERY 6 WEEKS(AND STOP IN THE COUNTRYSIDE) BUT USUALLY BOOK A HOTEL AT WEEKENDS AND PLAN TO MAKE THE CABELLO REGULAR. THE ONLY DRAW-BACK IT CLOSE`S NOVEMBER TILL MARCH BUT WHO KNOWS WITH MORE REVIEWS LIKE THIS IT MAY HAVE MORE DEMAND IN THESE MONTHS IT MIGHT STAY OPEN A BIT LONGER. There are many hotels that come under the basic/economy banner, and although this hotel is obviously one of them, several points raise it out of the description.
1)It,s position in La Carihuela, the quieter end,and one street back from the beach.
2)The friendliness of all the staff.
3)It is very clean and well attended to.
4)Bar prices are more than reasonable for the area, and are served in a very relaxed setting.
We will certainly be staying there again.

Lovely family run hotel.  Very friendly. Rooms clean and more than adequate.

Very centrally located for all amenites. Plenty of restauraunts on the doorstep and only a five minutes walk to the main road where you can catch the local buses to neighbouring towns.

This hotel would be more suited to older couples as there is no nightlife ie clubs in the area for teenagers. Fine for families as the beach is opposite and it is a traffic free zone.

A small family run hotel which is in a picturesque setting in a pedestrian street so there is no traffic to contend with when trying to sleep at night.  A stone's throw from the beach & lovely walks along the promenade to central Torremolinos to the north or Balamadena to the south.  Lots of eating places within a short distance which will not break the bank & shops by a plenty.  The staff are friendly & are available to offer advice on the locality.  All in all a very pleasant stay & one which I would willing repeat again.  Bueno =)

The staff were really pleasant and helpful. the hotel room was a good size with three beds, which were extremely comfortable. the only problem was that it was at the back of the hotel in the corner overlooking high walls to both sides, and a building opposite with a stone eagle? on its roof, and although very very quiet did not stay in our room at any time as it would have been monotonous just staring at these walls. if we had ahd a room at the FRONT of the hotel then we would have spent a lot longer in the rooms which all have a sea view. this is an excellant place to stay. I own a timeshare just a few hundred feet along the road so this is the perfect place to extend your holiday. there is so much to do and see here, in this beautiful fishing village, with only a short walk in either direction to night life at the marina or torremolinos. we are booked to go back later in the year to this very friendly family hotel.

Excellent value for money. The hotel is basic, safe, clean and a great base for the beach right beside-it.
The family that own it are friendly and reliable.
Only down side was an English Hen Party which caused considerable noise for a few nights. They were so out-of-place at this hotel.
The local Festival to the Virgin Carmen takes place the second week of July. The Hotel room gives a brilliant view as they all collect and process right in front of the hotel.

I have stayed at the Hotel Cabello three time now and will be booking again for next year.  The hotel is a friendly family run hotel and the staff can't do enought for you.  For a 1* accommodation it has fantastic facilites.  All the room have a TV, telephone, ceiling fan and air conditioning.  The towels are changed everyday and sheets twice a week.  Some of the rooms have a sea view The beach and all the resorts facilites are just seconds away.  The hotel bar is one of the best places to people watch while having a local drink at low prices.  I would reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, friendly, Spanish style hotel.

Review of 'HOTEL CABELLO'

11 June 2006
I always go to Spain at the beginning of June, as I can think of no better way to 'celebrate' ones birthday than to bake on Bajondillo beach, in Torremolinos! This year however, a long planned trip to NYC took precedence, and it looked as though the annual pilgrammage to Torrie was off. But at the last minute I gave in to temptation and booked a cheap flight to Malaga..and then started to look for a VERY cheap no frills hotel. Of course Alpharooms was my first stop, and the hotCabello came up. I booked two rooms for the ridiculously cheap price of 35euro per room. I honestly wasn't expecting much for that money, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Other reviews of the hotel have described it accurately in terms of room size, amenities etc, so no point going over that again, except to say that the hotel is immaculately  clean, the service is fantastic, and all the staff are incredibly friendly [and didn't mind my appalling attempts at mangling their lovely language!]. What I would like to add is that the location  is second to none. I have stayed in Torremolinos each year [sometimes twice a year] for the past 11 years. La Carihuela will be my first choice of destination from now on, and Cabello my first choice of hotel. The whole area is pedestrianised, more or less, and is very quiet, with a beautiful stretch of beach. Torremolinos and Benalmadena are about 10 mins walk in either direction should you want more, but the restaurants along the seafront, and in the village of La Carihulela serve up some of the freshest and lovliest fish I've ever eaten, at very low prices. A typical meal for two, with starters, main, desert and wine came to about 30 euro. The fact that all the restaurants were patronised by Spanish nationals speaks volumes...always a good sign. And tourists and natives mix together very well in this area.

The beach itself at La Carihuela is immaculately maintained, [no animals allowed] and is very well served by lots of Chiringuitos, with ample sunbeds, showers etc. If fishing is your thing, a lot of locals and tourists fish off the rocks at the left end of the beach. Plenty of shops selling necessities in the area, along with Pharmacias, Estancos and newsagents selling national and foreign language newspapers, magazines and books. If you are looking for a quiet location, with a fantastic beach, easy access to hundreds of restaurants and bars, then La Carihuela should be on your list. Not as touristy as Torremol

Review of 'HOTEL CABELLO'

09 June 2006
We had a very warm and friendly welome from everyone. (my partner, 9yr old daughter and myself)  We have visited here on previous holidays in the carihuela for a coffee etc, and this was our first stay with them. We had a triple room which was kept really clean. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and the only problem was that our room was at back of the hotel looking out onto a wall (maybe they would consider having the wall painted with a scenic view of a beach or mountains) and unfortunately with no balcony which was a pity as we couldnt  just sit in our room and relax looking out over the beach. As we were only there for four days we didnt ask for a different room, which I'm sure they would have swapped if asked. The other guests were also very friendly. Breakfast was either a toasted roll and jam or toast and jam, with tea or coffee, and you were  served within seconds of sitting at your table. The hotel is situated just a few seconds walk from the carihuela beach and shops. You are only a 15/20 min walk from the centre of Torremolinos along the beach promonade to your left or the Marina in Benalmadena to your right. I believe this is the best area along the coast as you are never far away from any of the main attractions. I would recommend the Hotel Cabello to everyone and would certainly stay with them again.

Single wall plug so bring a multi adapter. Good cleaning on
week days. Nice staff with limited english so use limited
spanish if possible. The coffee in the downstairs bar is
outstanding and a nice spot in the mornings and evenings to
watch the promenaders. Good for singles and couples, no pool

we found the hotel cabello a nice well cleaned place.room was large enough, the tv was not great as it was only in spainish, sky would of been better.there was air conditioning and a fan which would of been useful if it were really hot.nice view over the sea and paved area with fountains.though they were a bit noisey at times.the walls are very thin you could hear everything going on,love making, people snoreing, doors slamming, footsteps up and down the stairs.they came around at 2/3 am to empty the bins and wash down the pavements,so big trucks under your window.we found that very agrevating, also groups of spainish local youngsters started to congregate at 10pm to 3 am,playing basketball in the school playground just a few yards away.kicking tin cans and plastic bottles about shouting and screaming, riding about on scooters, being general pests.if you are a light sleeper its not the place for you.the staff were friendly and your room was cleaned very well every day.it is a pity they did not have any food served,no evening meals.the jam roll and coffee for breakfast did not seem a lot.this was the only food they could arrange.there was a great deal of good resturants in the area.we found most things closed down early shops etc, approx 9 pm.so it is best to go to the main towns a night.all in all we could not find anything wrong with the hotel.but we would not use it again.

If you are looking for a comfortable, affordable hotel in one of the best locations, Hotel Cabello will be perfect.  We were lucky enough to have a room at the front with a view of the Mediterranean and the sunrising every morning. The room is basic, no different to a Travel Lodge in Britian but you get a very nice and adequate breakfast. We had a really lazy week just relaxing on the beach or in the many bars and cafe's, breakfast is served until 11am so you can go out walking beforehand or have a lie in - whatever.   The morning waiter practices his Piano playing, maybe he is a concert pianist, his English was not so good, his playing was delightful. We like to experience the local cuisine and the fish and seafood is wonderful.  Situated about 10 mins walk from Torremolinos or Benalmedena (opposite directions) coach trip to Gibraltar 8 Euros (2 hours which includes pick ups).  15 mins from Malaga aeroport, taxi approx 18 Euros. Excellent.

This is a basic no frills family run hotel, which is clean and tidy, with helpful staff. It is situated 75m from the beach within the main street of Caruhuella. The only problem we did find was something that would not happen in this country, in that the streets were cleaned and washed early every morning, which when at the front of the hotel may cause a problem for light sleepers. The cheapest brandy and coffee in town at 1.80 E. A very cheap place to stay and good accomidation for the money.
