Good Location
14 July 2008
Good position, close to everything and metro station at the door. I arrived late but reception was very helpful and changed the room as air con was not working properly. The room we obtained was of good quality and very clean, maid service each day. The breakfast room was rather depressing, in cellar with no direct light, food type was limited but acceptable.

Excellent location
10 July 2008
Stayed there for 5 days at the beginning of July. Just a short walk along a busy shopping street meant that it was easy to find and felt very safe to get to both day and night. Nice and friendly staff throughout. Room was good, with air con and a free safe in room. Also a small fridge in room. Wooden floors in room gave it a city hotel feel rather than a typical Spanish hotel, which made the hotel feel more modern. Breakfast is in the basement in a cellar type room that has large comfy leather chairs to sit it. Lots of yogurts and cold meats, with different juices and a coffee machine available. Everything was constantly replenished. Excellent location and value. Would def stay here again when next in Barcelona.

The City Park Pelayo is open 24 hours so there was no problem for my friend and I to get to our rooms, despite not arriving until just after 10pm.
The receptions speak English and were helpful, making checking in very easy.
The pictures of the hotel's outside make it appear as though it is situated on the corner but it is actually just before the end of the road, although it is easy to spot.
The rooms were small but clean, tidy and appropriate for a short stay in Barcelona. We were there for a long weekend and it did the trick perfectly.
It can be quite noisy what with the traffic and revellers outside, but after all of the siteseeing, heat and the odd tipple we didn't have any problems falling straight to sleep.
Breaksfast is in the dimly-lit cellar but it is clean and comfortable and unless you are really fussy then it does the trick prefectly. There is a choice of breads, meat and cheese, as well as yoghurt, cornflakes and pastries. The fruit bowl was a little undesirable but there is supermarket and Boqueria market on the Ramblas, just a short walk away, so there is plenty of opportunity to stock up on fruit.
Our room had a small fridge, safe, television, coffee machine and a separate bathroom with a shower and bath.
The air conditioning proved to be a life-saver after a long day out in 32 degree temperatures and the fridge meant that we always had cold bottled water - which was definitely needed.
The hotel is in a safe and ideal location for getting to the Ramblas, Place De Catalunya, the tourist bus and the Metro (all a short walk away).
Apart from booking a twin room and getting a double room, there isn't really much to complain about this hotel. It is best suited for a short break as the rooms are 'cosy' although not uncomfortably small.
It's ideal for couples or families, especially as it is quieter then staying the Ramblas - which is what we had hoped to do but now think that wouldn't have been a wise option for those who like to sleep at night, or day!!
For those concerned abot getting there, the metro runs every few minutes, even on a Sunday, and you need to get onto the Red Line 1 to Place De Catalunya and then head up the road that is the road to the right of the Ramblas, as you are looking at it. Walk to the end of Calle Palai and it is on the right-hand side. Hotels along the way have English speaking receptionists and will guide you if lost - as we discovered.
Hope that helps!

Good location.
21 June 2008
We found this hotel to have a good location and the room was very clean with towels and sheets changed daily. The breakfast was adequate. There was a T.V. in the room but there was only one channel working on it, when we asked about this we were offered an alternative room but decided that as our room was one of the bigger ones, we should just stay put. It would have been nice to have had the use of tea making facilities in the room or for there to be a bar in he hotel, we were having to go to a bar across the road to get a tea or coffee in the evening. I think in future we will stay in a bigger hotel in order to get the facilities that we require.

A good clean hotel.
25 April 2008
Stayed there in April 2008.
Great location, 5. minutes walk to the La Rambla and Plaza Catalonia. Restaurants and shops just outside. Small supermarket on the other corner.
Rooms are clean, rather small. We were though three in one room. Fridge and a safe. Breakfast was fine, fruits, bread, ham, brie.
I absolutely recommend this hotel.

hig is big hit with kids!
25 February 2008
Myself and two sons aged 15 & 12 stayed for a week in a triple room and if anything the accommodation exceeded our expectations. On arrival it became apparent that they were expecting 2 guests as the 3rd bed, pull out sofa, hadn't been prepared. This was sorted out quickly and my teenage son found it perfectly comfortable.
The big plus of the hotel is its central location meaning that we could venture off in the morning and be able to come back to the room for a rest from all the walking before venturing out again in the evening.
Two very useful features that we made good use of were the safe and the fridge. There's a lot to be said for the peace of mind from leaving ipod, wallet and passports in a chunky safe whilst only taking out with you enough money for the day!
Life on a budget also became easier once we had discovered the Carrefour supermarket on the right as you go down la rambla so being able to get snack stuff for the kids and beer/wine for me to keep in the fridge!
Unaccustomed to the finer points of using an espresso machine I tried and failed on three occasions to work the machine....instructions would be helpful!
On departure day I got reception to book me a taxi to go to the bus station and my advice would be to also get hotel staff to ask cost when driver arrives - we got charged 15 euros for a journey that only cost 5 euros on arrival.
We appreciated that the room was cleaned every day with fresh towels also provided on a daily basis.
Room is on a busy road and therefore noisy and this was compounded by the fact that the window lock didn't work.
All in all a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely return!

Recommended for a short stay!
12 February 2008
Booked a room for three people so pleased to find it had 3 single beds. Room and hotel had adequate facilities that functioned correctly. Breakfast fine and staff lovely, although the breakfast room is poorly designed with big bulky chairs taking up so much room, you are hard pushed to find a seat.
Room we stayed in was a good size, however, a few more facilities like a mirror and waste bin in the main room would have made a longer stay more comfortable.
Locationwise, this is close to the top of La Ramblas, a short walk to Catalunya Square where the tourist buses are, and opposite the nearest tube stop.
If you have two days or less in Barcelona, stay here because you will waste no time finding your way around.

Bargin hotel in an ideal location!
05 February 2008
Great location - just a few steps from the metro (universitat) and a few blocks from La Ramlas. Booking in wasn't a problem at 1am and the room was clean and tidy (but small). It had a safe (no extra cost), fridge, expresso machine and tv (but obviously only had spanish channels). The bathroom had a bath/shower (with hot water), bidet, sink, mirror and hair dryer. The breakfast was basic - but filling. There was bread, ham, cheese, jam, honey, cereal, youguht, pastries, fruit, fruit juices, water, tea and coffee. Self service till 10.30am. The room was cleaned every day and we were able to keep our things in a locked luggage room after we checked out.
Quite satisfied all round - if the breakfast had more variety and the rooms were larger; I woutld give it 5 out of 5.

Perfect Location. We used Hop on Hop off bus which was 24 Euros for two days and took you to all main Sights. Hotel clean but breakfast room a bit small. Would have liked something cooked as well as cold buffet and mybe some muesli instead of just cornflakes.

HLG City Park Pelayo Review
15 July 2007
We were really impressed with this hotel and it definately deserves a higher rating than 2*!! Its location is PERFECT, couldn't have asked for a better location and the staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean, modern and the air conditioning meant we could get away from the heat and cool down! Would definately go again.

Extremely good hotel and very good value for money. If you get the opportunity then ask for room 308/408/508 as it's the largest of the rooms on each floor as it has space for a sofa bed as well as the double.
Very helpful staff and a great location on a road just off Placa de Catalunya. Far enough away not to be noisy but ideal for La Ramblas.
The only downside I can think of is the size of the breakfast room which is a bit cramped - but to be honest you'd be as well to head off for a coffee at the many bars and cafes around town.

Great location about 50 metres from Metro (Universitat) and 2 blocks from Las Ramblas. Very friendly staff and adequate continental breakfast with cereal, cold meat, cheese and breads etc. Only downside was the weather was unusually warm for March (27C) and the air conditioning wasnt working!

The hotel is ideally located close to the Universitat Metro, earplugs are a good idea for night time as the area is very busy, but it shouldn't spoil your enjoyment. Breakfast is in the cellar of the hotel and very cosy! Not a great choice of breakfast but you can fill up on toast and jam if you are desperate! Very clean rooms and staff were helpful.
