breakfast
01 September 2008
The location of the hotel was fine, is about 20min walk if you are fit and healthy to princes street.
what was disapointing was the breakfast, it advertisers full scottish breakfast , plus cereals , fruit etc, the breakfast was very poor, certainly was not scottish!! so haggis, or square sausage, everyting was put on hotplates, even the toast!! and all was very greasy.
most disapointing have been to edniburgh for last 3yrs and stayed in b and b's where breakfast was excellent, any type of eggs you asked for and what you would expect from a scottish breakfast.
there were only two bowls of friut, grapefruit or pear, which did not look fresh, out of a tin.
No actual chef either cooking breakfast, we were there 3 days different person each day last night there was hotel night porter!!

Overnight stay
18 June 2008
Excellent value hotel for the budget seeking traveller. Before travelling we were a little concerned about the hotel due to its cheapness and area but pleasantly surprised when we arrived and entered the building (however road work and building work is being carried out in close proximity to the hotel). Staff friendly and helpful, superb that they looked after your luggage before and after check in/check out times. Decor could do with updating in all areas of the hotel, but rooms are more than adequate with plenty of storage space and more importantly clean. Our bed and pillows extremely comfy. Will definately be using this hotel again next time we return to Bonnie Scotland.

A week break
21 March 2008
This was a great hotel as it was priced very reasonably. The room was cosy enough (loads of heating) and the ensuite was great but not too sure about the building site as a window view and the bed was a little hard.

Great Hotel
09 January 2008
Have just come back from Edinburgh after a long weekend there. Herald House is a lovely hotel to stay in, not too far a walk to Princes Street and other attractions Edinburgh has to offer! Breakfast was lovely, great amount of choice given, really set you up for the day ahead. Bedroom was great too, very clean, bed made and new towels every day. Cannot fault this hotel me and my boyfriend really enjoyed our stay - Thank you x

Glugfest
23 December 2007
We came to Edinburgh for the winter festival and the mulled wine. Hotel was pretty central - only a 10 - 15 min walk to Princess St. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast plentiful and excellent. Room a little faded but bearable and quite clean but oh the bed! It was so uncomfortable and sagging. Would stay again but would have to check that they'd bought new beds. Definitely need renewing as a matter of some urgency.

27th & 28th november 2007
30 November 2007
Stayed 27th & 28th november. Hotel was not bad for the price you pay, I would not like to stay for longer than a couple of nights. Bed a bit hard , pillows were flat . Asked for extra pillow which was delivered to are room very quickly which was very good . staff are friendly. Shower room is very small indeed . If you are a large person you could not use the loo. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to city centre.

Did the job
15 October 2007
As others say based on the rating and cost it was fine for a one night stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Decor a bit faded and dated in rooms but seemed clean enough. Would stay in it again.

Hark the Herald
11 August 2007
Had I been walking down Grove Street, looking for a hotel, I would probably have walked on past the Herald House. However we were very pleased with the room, the breakfast and the service. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Only two stars? - It's up there with the best!

Good value and friendly
06 August 2007
I was pleasantly surprised by the Herald House - they happily looked after my luggage before I checked in and all day after I checked out. The hotel is in a quiet street, but close to all the city attractions. It's a short walk from Haymarket and a 30-second walk to the end of the road for the buses to Princes St and the Old Town.
Everything worked, the shower was clean and had plenty of power.
The buffet breakfast was lovely too.
I would certainly use it again and will recommend it to friends.

Good Value Hotel
23 July 2007
Was looking for a triple room for one night as we were going to see Bryan Adams at Murrayfied. Hotel provided exactly what we needed. We arrived early so they looked after our luggage until we could check in. Room was good with everything we needed. Cheery staff including night porter who was there to greet us after we returned from the concert very bedraggled after being in the rain for hours but very happy! Good breakfast in the morning. Would definately use the hotel again

The Herald House
13 May 2007
The first thing to strike you at the Herald House is the warm and friendly reception you receive. In fact all the staff I met, without exception, were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had all the facilities necessary. The hotel was easy to find - a five/six minute walk from Haymarket and only a twenty minute walk into the very centre of Edinburgh. Price wise, the hotel can only be described as excellent value for money - especially given its location. This was a great find which I'll certainly use again.

Great hotel for the price
25 April 2007
I took my boyfriend for a suprise weekend away to Edinburgh and this hotel was perfect for our student budget!
When we arrived at 9:30am our room happened to be ready so we could go in straight away, but even so the reception staff are happy to look after your bags and call you a taxi if you wish!
The room and ensuite were spotless and a lot bigger than expected (we stayed in a double but it had a double plus a single so there was plenty of room..)
The shower was fine (some people say it's too small?) and the bed was quite comfy too.
Being lazy students we dragged ourselves out of bed to make sure we got the breakfast - which was well worth getting up for as the staff kept the hot food (eggs, bacon, sausage, beans etc) constantly topped up and fresh. Plus there were hot drinks, cold drinks, cereal, fruit, yoghurts, you name it!
We had a great time exploring Edinburgh (the castle is fantastic!) and would definately stay here again!! And it is literally only a 10minute walk to the west end of Princes street, perfect to shop whilst walking up one side then walk back through the beautiful gardens on the other!

Review of 'HERALD HOUSE'
06 February 2007
The Herald House building exterior is beautiful carved old sandstone built originally to house brewery workers. Facilities are good; trouser press (does anyone use these!!?), hairdryer, electric shower, tea/coffee in room. Services include free luggage storage, and web access (£3/hour). Breakfast was good, the standard stuff... fry up/cereals/juices. Served until 9.30 weekdays, 10am at weekends. Reception staff are friendly, will call you a taxi quickly, clean room, towels, shower spotless, bed was comfy. My only problem was the lack of satellite/cable TV, but thats a minor thing for tourists... get out and see the sights! Location and surrounding amenities are very good. 5 minutes to shops, bars, and cinema on Lothian Road. 10 minutes walk will have you on Princes Street, the main thoroughfare. Despite the two star rating, i would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh on a budget, or looking for comfort at a good price.

Review of 'HERALD HOUSE'
22 January 2007
The Herald House was a great find. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The room was a very good size for a single, although the bathroom was small. Breakfast was wonderful. The location is good because there is a bus stop right at the corner with buses that go to Princes Street and Ocean Mall and an entertainment centre a few blocks away. I would definitely stay here again
I'd suggest that the hotel advertise the buses more since it was so convenient.

On a budget, look no further! Herald House Hotel
22 January 2007
If you have never been to Edinburgh (the capital of Scotland) before, do it now! It has everything to suit all tastes. Staying at the Herald Hotel was first and foremost value for money in the heart of city, close to all amenities. The room was compact but bijou, clean and served up a delicious hearty Scottish breakfast. As a solo traveller, I felt welcomed by the staff and safe in the area. For the budget conscious traveller, look no further!

Doesnt look much from the outside but very nice inside. The room was fine although the shower was a bit small not a lot of room to move. Much closer to the city centre than you think and only a short taxi from the city centre. ( Haymarket station in edinburgh is nearer the hotel if you are travelling by train. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Only had breakfast in the hotel but it was very good and set you up for the rest of the day would definitely use this hotel again was excellent value for money have had worse experiences in so called three and four star hotels.

A very pleasant place to stay and the staff were all friendly and helpful. It is not too far away from all the main attractions and you get a very good breakfast. The En - Suite is a little small but the rooms are nice and it was a very comfortable stay. You would not go far wrong enjoying a short break here and everything went smoothly with Alpharooms arrangements. So get yourself off to Edinburgh and a stay in Herald House is not a bad way to start.

Review of 'HERALD HOUSE'
04 February 2006
We use this hotel to stay at while visiting our friend who is nearby at Uni, and have just returned for the second time. The Herald House is basic but very clean and comfortable. The staff are great and make you feel welcome, even the night porter who we greeted at 3.30am every morning when he let us in, joked with us if we were the last home or not. A good hearty breakfast every morning sets you up for the day. Location is good down a quiet side street, and a 15 minute walk takes you to Grassmarket and lots of great pubs. Regular buses to Princes Street stop at the end of the road, and there is an ATM machine located on the street corner. If your looking for a good quality budget hotel to base yourself while visiting fantastic Edinburgh give the Herald a try!!!

Birthday W/End staying at Herald House
26 September 2005
We recently celebrated our close friend's birthday with a weekend away in Edinburgh. Our party consisted of myself, my wife Lynda, the brithday girl Laura & her husband Martin. The Herald House was an ideal choice for our stay, being just a short walk from the city centre & all its glory. The Herald House was very clean, cheerful & very accommodating,(we returned in on the early hours of Sunday morning & half jokingly asked if the bar was open,to which, the response was "it can be if you want it to be". What more can I say,the perfect place to stay. You also get a brill breakfast with haggis!!!!
