Friendly Hotel

23 October 2008
Great central location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Left luggage in secure room all day until we could get into room and then on departure left the luggage the whole day again before catching our train. Room fine for one nights accommodation. Bathroom could do with a little decorating but fine otherwise.

Excellent location

18 August 2008
This hotel is in a perfect location for sightseeing and all public transport.Rose street is a very busy street and our room was at the back so there wasnt too much noise.A room at front would have been a nightmare.Bins are emptied early in morning so that will wake you up.Hotel was quite basic but spotlessly clean.I would recommend it for value and location.

Hotel was very well situated close to train station room was nice and clean, however couldn't sleep due to noise from pubs round about and the bin men emptying bins early Sunday morning, could be doing with some double glazing! Our room was to the back of the hotel.

Hanover Hotel, Edinburgh

6 of us, 3 couples, used this hotel for 1 night as our base in Edinburgh to celebrate my wifes 40th birthday. we were very disappointed to find that although we had booked bed & breakfast the price was actually room only and no breakfast was available. However, the rooms were very clean and well maintained, the bathroom was bright and spacious and the shower was extremly powerful and hot. the location to the train station was ideal, a short 5 minutes walk, and the hotel was quite happy for us to leave our luggage both before and after our check in and out. Unfortunately, Edinburgh's binmen work Sunday mornings and if you stay around the rear of the hotel you won't fail to hear them, but in general a well located hotel for the money. May try somewhere else next time as a breakfast would have been nice for the money, but I can highly recommend The Standing Order, Witherspoons Pub 50 yards down rose street on the left as an alternative breakfast location.

Review of Hanover

Decided to book this hotel as it was an ok price in a great location and said breakfast included. However got a big shock when we arrived and found out they stopped serving breakfasts months ago, very dissapointed about this. The room itself was fine a bit run down but ok. I would recommend stay in this hotel if you want cheap and slightly cheerful and close to the shops.

VERY GOOD HOTEL

01 September 2007
Me and my partner stayed at the Hanover Hotel in August at the time of the festival. After reading other peoples reviews on this website and others I noticed that people were saying it was a very noisy area but that is not really true. During festival time there are more people around than any other time of year. It tended to be quite noisy in the day time but less so at night. Saying that we were out most nights until at least 12am, but we had no problems sleeping when we got back. Worst thing was the lift! It kind of felt a bit unsafe. I'm sure it wasn't but it sure made some strange noises. Then a member of staff told my partner that there was a part missing WHILE SHE WAS IN THE LIFT! Which was kind of funny. Best thing was the shower. It was so powerful it could strip paint off walls! And the location was PERFECT. Very close to the castle, two shopping centres, the Hard Rock Cafe and lots of pubs and resturants. The breakfast was pretty basic but was tasty enough. The room was clean and well presented. There was no cold water in the bathroom which was a bit strange. All in all a very good place to stay for a short break. Best to stay here during the festivals as there is SO much to do. Loads of shows music and even the street performers were pretty good. Try and book a ghost tour as they are great. Best one is City Of the Dead. Do it at night preferably after a drink or two. Make sure you book in advance though. Or get to the meeting point at least 30 mins before it starts to garentee a place. Love Edinburgh and will def be going next year. Have a good break!

The Hotel was clean and the room large, however the receptionist was not very welcoming and we were told we would get our breakfast sent up to put in the fridge but they never bothered, when we told them in the morning they didn`t offer us it or offer a reduction in price, she just said oh dear another thing i`ve done wrong today. I would not go back price was expensive for what the hotel offered,
all in all the staff we very off and not really concerned about the guests!
