GOOD BREAK 23/27 sept 08

01 October 2008
the amaika is a lovely hotel this was the second time we stayed this year, the room was excellent last time but this time they had to move us because the smell of the cleaning odour in our room was so strong that we had to walk out of it after 2minutes.but the hotel staff were excellent they changed our room and it was not as bad.the food is very good and a good choice for all.the entertainment leaves a bit to be desired but overall good hotel.will go back again, staff are lovely and help with whatever you want.the pool is to small and not enough sun beds.

not for the under 30s

30 September 2008
hotel was nice enough but pool was far too small for the hotel and shockingly few sunbeds available (about 30) which have to be paid for! the food was ok, with a reasonable choice but tended to be lukewarm.Gald we were only there for a long weekend The entertainment was very poor and I wouldn't really recommend it for young families or young couples. The beach bar was a good idea but not sure why the drinks were limited to 2 per day?? All in all, i would probably go back for a long weekend but no longer than that

our holiday

03 August 2008
stayed for 11 days the all inclusive doesnt work in any other hotel ofter 7,oclock we had friends staying in the calella palace we couldnt meet at night brcause of the curfew the entertainment was very poor for night time we are in our late thirties and the only good entertainment was the flamingo dancers we got for an hour once a week the pool has 25 sun loungers for 250 rooms the pool and pool area is very small the loungers were mostly taken by kids who spent most of the time in the pool the food was very good and the reception staff were very helpfull it has a great location the room we has to the back of the hotel was a bit noisy after midnight because of the busy nightlife mostly german spanish and french people staying at the hotel getting a drink in the resturant too sometome some nights we were nearly finished our meal by the time the waiter got to us there was only 2 waiters serving drinks and 2 cleaning tables went to breackfast once and couldnt get a clean table the hotel is very clean overall its a nice place to stay

Good group holiday!

19 June 2008
Just returned from the htop amaika 7-14th June. Overall the hotel was quite nice. Didn't find any problems as read on previous reviews. Food was excellent and I am a good eater and a little fussy when it comes to eating out. Breakfast not all that good but they never are. We were in a group of 10 people and everybody else seemed to find something to eat, but didn't really enjoy it. However, lunch and dinner was fabulous and really looked forward to those meals. I found the hotel a little noisy on our first night but had some ear plugs and that did the job. Everybody was friendly, but the restaraunt staff where exceptional, waiter service for drinks which were branded soft drinks and bottled beer and wine! They all seemed to love children and worked extremely hard as did the bar staff. Some appeared a little miserable, but considering the long hours they work, I think I would be the same!! I would return to this hotel for a cheap budget week in the sun. A week was long enough for us as Calella itself is a bit of a dump and not a patch on majorca or other places I have been to. Entertainment was okish. There was an act on most nights and the entertainment staff tried their best, but we didn't have a problem as we joined in with them and being in a large group, its easy to make your own entertainment!! Don't worry about the bad reviews on here, there are much worse places to go and if you make the most of it, it is an enjoyable place. Very Clean... when we first arrived there was a overpowering smell of disinfectant as read on reviews. I also read it was pumpled through the air con to give a sense of cleanliness. This is not true at all the hotel is just very clean and the cleaners work very hard on keeping it that way as we found out on our day of departure, as we were up and around the hotel early morning and the floors, walls, lifts, stairs, doors, windows and even the outside walls around the hotel where being cleaned. Its just a smell you have to put up with, again could be worse and could smell dirty!!

Best in resort

02 June 2008
Food 5/5, Service 4.5/5 (some reception staff were grumpy and difficult to communicate, though majority of staff were friendly and seemed to enjoy their work), Cleanliness 5/5 (never seen a hotel so well kept...cleaners did great job and were supervised regularly by management), Location 5/5 (perfect location near beach and town), Pool area 2.5/5 (too small, clean and tidy but more like a 2 star pool). Only other negative was the lack of sound-proofing in the rooms..this can become a problem if you are placed in a room near teenagers...and would seriously advise you to bring along earplugs just incase you are unlucky enough to have any problems.....they worked a treat for me!!!

Excellent value for money - room with bathroom (bath and shower) was clean and a good size - cleaned every day with fresh towels - small balcony. Very close to the beautiful beach. Food was superb with lots to choose from and many new things to try. Would recommend for families and couples alike.

21 May 2008
Well where do i start, think i'll start closest to my heart and that's my stomach, food is excellent, and I consider myself as a little fussy, waiter service with your lunch and dinner, faultless. Rooms are really lovely, spotless, hairdryer in rooms, free beach towels everyday, staff great, bril with my little one who is three, internet available in the lobby, which my teenage daughter was thrilled to bits with, beach is 5 minutes over the road. Plenty of shops, and even a macdonalds 2 minutes away, this hotel is the best by far. If I had to say one bad thing then it would have to be there just are not enough sun beds around the pool, they are all taken up with people putting towels on them early hours, and this hotel does attract more middle aged and not a lot of children,so all in all great, will be going back later on in the year that's for definite,x

Amaika Magic

09 May 2008
This ia a marvellous hotel and we have stayed here on four occasions. It gets better each time and staff never change. On a Price Value ratio it is impossible to find better. Its convenience to Barcelona and the excellent beach and quirky town are an additional bonus. Many people would enjoy it better if the knew hoe to cope with buffet meals. 1. On your first visit to the dining room walk around and get to know the main featires and layout of the food. Find the toasters at breakfast and note the Microwave and Coffee machine. 2. Couples shoild split the roles...one gets the toast, butter jan etc while the partner makes coffee ,juices and water. 3. With a buffet there are always dishes not hot enoigh. Two tips....be patient and wait until a new tray is laid out and pounce or heat the bacon, scrambled eggs and soup in thr microwave. There are always meat and fish dishes cooked in the dining room on the grill. Thet are always delicious. By the way , the eggs are fried in the dining and the chef will turn them if you don't like sunnyside up. 3. The range of salads are outstanding so try something new and don't always expect top cuts of meat and fish..try the delicious grilled sardines or machrael, enjoy the expensive salmon, tuna and swordfish. I enjoy the rabbit, liver pork ribs. 4. Finally every day there is an exceptional range of Spainish soups and stews...each is a meal on its own. Enjoy wourself and I might meet you there in the \autumn Last visit.. 28 April/8 May 2008 David(77)

Last Minute Break

15 April 2008
Hotel in itself is clean and tidy, rooms always fully cleaned with fresh towels daily if required. Walls are very thin however, could hear family next door switching lights on and off and talking. Facilities however not what you would expect of a hotel of this size - swimming pool and surrounding area very small, max capacity for approx 140 people, hotel over 200 rooms - you do the maths! "Daily Entertainment" - darts, indoor shuffleboard, quiz and DJ at night - no facilities or club for children. Make sure you pack a travel iron - 4 euros for maid to iron a pair of trousers! The week we were there, the food was very repetitive, not always hot either, geared towards the Spanish and German guests - no decent meals for children - most of the children spent their week eating chips only, unless your young family likes veal, pork chops, shark and more veal! Hotel in good location for beach and train for travelling to Barcelona - only 10 minute walk from station, Calella is a lot quieter than the likes of Lloret de Mar, but a lot nicer too Overall, OK for a last minute break, but would not like to spend 2 weeks here - would not rate as a 4 star hotel.

ideal short break location

31 March 2008
We recently enjoyed a 4 day stay at the Amaika Hotel. We couldn't fault the actual hotel - clean and spacious. The food was abundant - beautifully presented too. One thing - if you do hire a car, please please park in the hotel car park. We were not informed of this and our car was towed away by police!!! Just a word of warning. Train link into Barcelona is only 1 hour - lovely journey along the coast. Would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends. Thank you for a nice break

No Smoking at This Hotel

22 January 2008
Excellent hotel, great facilities, great rooms, great staff. You'll be disappointed if you smoke, though, as all rooms are NON smoking as are all public rooms except one. Check out is at 10 O'clock on day of departure. We had booked a call for 9.00am, but between 8.00 am and 9.00am am the cleaners knocked us up 3 times to clean the room. Eventually I shouted rather loudly at them and they went away and stayed away. The Red " Do not Disturb" sign is regularly ignored by them as well. Don't expect a lie in if you stay here. Otherwise a great hotel.

08 January 2008
I stayed at the Amaika in May 2007 with my boyfriend for a week and had a brilliant stay. The rooms are spacious and clean and the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. everything at the Amaika was great. Food, entertainment and the staff. That great we have booked to stay again in February 2008. My parents and their friends have also been and highly recommend it too.

Great

19 October 2007
I booked this as a short shopping break with my 11 year old girl. I was a bit wary because i am used to travelling with my husband. The staff and i must say other holiday maker all made us feel very welcome, without being overpowering and noisy. The room was exceptional, big, airy, clean with plenty of coathangers......a must for any girly, girl! The food was hot, fresh and there was a good variety. I am an extremely fussy eater and even i found plenty to choose from. We went on a hotel swap to Lorette and lunched at The Casino Royal which was also great. A cheep way to explore surounding areas and other hotels. The entertainment was great with variety every night. All in all fab value for money, I can't think of any faults.

food was excellent, hotel very clean, staff very friendly, only downside was pool area, which was far too small for size of hotel. beach just 5 minutes down road, was ok, but at 4 euro a sunbed and 4 euro an umbrella bit costly, callela itself had character and my 2 16 yrs olds, found plenty to do in the evenings. all in all excellent

My Overall Review

01 August 2007
I travelled to Costa Brava , on the 21st of july this year i had no idea where i was going. When i got there to my hotel i thought it was clean and the staff was great. The only downside of the hotel was the pool and poolside , there wasnt enough beds or tables to seat everyone in the hotel you had to be there first if you wanted a bed which means getting up early while on holiday but everything else was fine .

Review of 'H.TOP AMAIKA'

30 January 2007
Went to the hotel with my husband in Nov 06 for 3 nights. The hotel was immaculate - beautifully designed on the theme of "Titanic". The rooms were beaultiful with air conditioning/heaters, rooms were cleaned every day. Balcony was quite small but as there were only 2 of us this did not matter. I would not recommend this to families as the pool is small and there is not a lot to do for children on the complex. The food was excellent and plenty to choose from each day, they also has buffets on throughout the day inbetween the meal times. Calella was not up to much as most of the resort was closed at this time of the year, but i would definitely return to the hotel.

Amaika Hotel was (H)Top For us.

27 December 2006
We have just returned from a five night stay at the Htop Amaika Hotel in Calella - Costa Brava.(We)being a group of adults/young children. We cannot fault the hotel at all. We were on an all inclusive package which we found to be excellent value. There was even Christmas dinner on the 25th including wine and champagne!! Estupendo(as they say in Spain)!! The hotel facilities/location was also good.We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending this hotel to anyone. We are booking to go back at the end of the summer.

FABULOUS AT THE AMAIKA

19 October 2006
A group of us(ladies)aged between 21 and 50 stayed at the Amaika in October, it was fantastic.  The hotel was clean, the food was good (something for everyone) and the staff really looked after us.  We celebrated a 50th birthday and the hotel supplied a cake and champagne whilst dining in the restaurant.  We travelled to Barcelona by train for the day (6 euros) return, which only added to the enjoyment of the holiday. All inclusive is brilliant and would recommend this to anyone.  We have stayed their previously as a family and received the same level of service.  I will definitely be going back asap.

21 June 2006
Overall very disappointed. Not, Not a 4* hotel. Friendly staff food ok but the pool was tiny. It had 8 floors of rooms with roughly 28 rooms per floor. Yet the pool was tiny. Maybe 30 beds around it and most of these were shaded and taken up by 3huge families when we were there. These people just took over the whole pool area. Thankfully the beach was much better. The walls in the rooms were paper thin. We had fighting scots on one side and German students on the other. We complained but really made little impression. 2 good nights sleep in the whole week.We enjoyed our holiday despite the hotel not because of it.

The hotel was reasonable. The room was good with adequate facilties and kept to a good standard every day by the staff.
We stayed in room 207 which had the sound of furniture being scraped below us and noise from surrounding rooms.
The only real let down was the food which did not vary much and was lukewarm. We were half board but ate out most of the time.
Overall we would not expect more for the price we paid except for the food.

we did not have best off the spainish weather during our stay ,but all enjoyed it very much.
The only thing that may have spoilt it a just little is other guests, with moans, loutish behaviour with little respect and throw away good food and drink just because it there.

this hotel i would give full marks for cleanliness and the the decor is first class.
but the down side is the food.
the salads and desserts are not a problem,it's the main meals.
boiled potatoes and cooked fish were cold, although they have microwaves on hand, should you really be warming up already cooked fish?
the staff around the hotel were miserable'is this because it is all inclusive and they dont get tipped?...
i have travelled many times with alpharooms and never had a problem but if i had paid full price for this establishment i would have been far from pleased.
as i got it at alpharooms price i just walked away laughing.
all in all the summing up reads a 4 star hotel with a 2 star restaraunt.
would i go again, the answer is yes at alpharoom prices only

Review of 'H.TOP AMAIKA'

25 March 2006
Hotel was of a good standard clean and tidy.
Restaurant was o.k. the variety of dishes was not much veal or fish most nights.Olympic guests came to the hotel to eat, so evenings there were queues. March is a quiet time for the resort so outside the hotel there was not a lot happening Alcatraz and the Queen Vic. The queues formed at the bar from around 11.30pm as the all inclusive finishes at 12. Once again the hotel offers its facilities to the olympic guests so the time you got a drink before the all inc finished depended on the fact you stood for 20/30 minutes to be given two drinks as this was all you were allowed there was three of us and I went the bar to get us a drink with two cards but was advised to stand in the queue again as I had stood waiting for 10 mins I did not bother this was early onin the evening we decided to go out for our drinks as opposed to begging, this is what it felt like.Sauna needs to be prebooked and there are no rooms available to use if you are on a late flight you have to vacate room at 10 and sit around.

16 March 2006
I give this hotel mixed reviews. The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms are so spacious and clean. If you are all inclusive the drinks are great even their own brandy and baileys! The problem here are the brits! They are just noisy and drunk all the time they have no consideration for anyone else. I understand that it is a cheap holiday but you don't have to shout and swear all the time from 10.00am until 4am. The staff were really nice but obviously fed up with the constant drunk brits who treat them so badly. Don't touch the food in this hotel it is re heated and buffet style. For the price you pay its worth paying a bit extra and going out to the spanish restaurants. Apart from the tinned veggies the food is good and an excellent price. Don't bring kids here the drunken adults will spoil it for them with their banging on doors and shouting in the middle of the night. Loads of hens and stags which would expect for the price. The hotel is lovely and clean. There is a quiet room tucked away opp reception go in there its lovely. Calella is brilliant cheep shoes and handbags and lovely bars. I would go again for the price but will take ear plugs for the night so to get a few hours sleep

Review of 'H.TOP AMAIKA'

15 March 2006
The Hotel is a 45 minute drive from Barcelona and is relatively easily found in the small coastal town of Calella.
Reception procedures were efficient and friendly.
Our room on the second floor was quite satisfactory with good bathroom facilities (shower and bath)and a small balcony with two chairs and a small table overlooking the relatively small hotel pool.
The large bar area and residents lounge were well furnished and comforatable.  Dining room decor and general appearance was excellent.
Dining was a disappointment as the quality and range was below that of other four star hotels in Spain and Portugal that we have booked through Alpha Rooms.
A most unfortunate feature of the Hotel was the conduct of a relatively small number of the guests many of whom came from the UK.  The temptation of "All Inclusive" drinking was too much for them and they let themselves down with drunken, foul mouthed and loud behaviour.  For this reason alone I would not return to the Hotel which is a pity as the staff did their best to make our stay enjoyable.

Review of 'H.TOP AMAIKA'

12 March 2006
Me and my wife spent an enjoyable week at the H.TOP Amaika at the beginning of March 2006. We chose this paricular hotel because it is fairly close to Callela rail station and therefore dead easy to get a train into Barcelona. If you fancy a stroll down the Ramblas,a return ticket to Barcelonas' placa de catalunya station will only cost you 6 euros..a real bargain.
The Amaika is close to the main shopping area. Just cross over the dry river bed and you're in the 'High St', which, to be honest,at this time of year, seems a bit livelier on an evening than it is during the day. The interior of the hotel is definitely four star, plenty of real wood, fancy lamps, and carpets etc, and the staff seem friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean as you would expect, but strangely it's the small attention to detail that sticks in the mind...the miniature bottles of hair shampoo provided in the bathroom ....the big glass jar of boiled sweets on reception...these are the daft little things that can make a difference to your stay.
We stayed full board, and both of us put on half a stone in the week we spent there so the food can't have been all that bad...just one piece of advice though - don't even try the bacon at breakfast. The Spanish haven't the faintest idea how to cook it and this hotel is no different.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to my friends and perhaps the bacon to my enemies.

The service at the hotel was first class. The rooms were spacious, clean and towels and rooms cleaned daily. The car parking was expensive and noone used it as I never saw one car in there. If the hotel dropped the price they could make some extra money. The food was excellent but it did vastly improve when buses of french and germans turned up. There was entertainment every night but if you did not smoke it was unbearable to sit and watch even for a small time. Really totally unexceptable for children. A great hotel to come back to.

The only problem was the temperature of the food, which was a shame because had it been a little warmer it would have been perfect. All in all the holiday was an experience I look forward to repeating
