Marmaris
The port city of Marmaris is located on the Mediterranean coast in southwest Turkey and is fast becoming one of the most popular tourist destinations for UK holiday makers. The resort is also one of the most popular yacht centres in the whole of Turkey and every year over a million tourists are thought to visit Marmaris.

Beyond the Beach
A trip isn’t a trip to Marmaris without a visit to the spectacular Marmaris Castle. According to the historian Herodotus, a castle has stood in Marmaris since 3000 BC. The castles current structure is however a matter of debate. The castle is thought to have been repaired during the time of Alexander the Great and widened and repaired by Suleyman the Magnificent in the 1500s. In 1979 reconstruction began on the castle and it now proves to be popular tourist attraction and open air museum.

A Trip Down to the Magic Garden...?
Marmaris is becoming one of the most popular resorts for party holidays for UK holiday makers and this is largely down to its varied and exciting nightlife. First of all a night in Marmaris isn’t complete without a visit to Marmaris bar street, most bars and clubs on the strip are open until 4am in the morning and because it’s all mapped out so closely together, it only take a few (stumbled) steps to get from one place to another. Top recommended clubs include the Magic Garden, Back Street and the Green House, which all offer guests a great place to dance the night away!

Eating Out
When visiting Marmaris you will be blown away by the variety of food available here, from traditional Turkish cuisine to Indian to Chinese to British cuisine there really is something to suit every taste and pocket. One of the most popular restaurants in Marmaris is strangely the Taj Mahal Indian which attracts thousands of visitors every year. For something a bit more Turkish head down to the harbour and the visit the popular Three Palms restaurant. Guests will enjoy outdoor dining with stunning views of the harbour.

Retail therapy
Marmaris offers a haven for any shopaholic and many bargains can be picked up within the resort. In general shops in Turkey open for extremely long hours (8am -10pm) so you literally can shop till you drop! First of all great prices can be found on gold and precious jewels and there is also some very attractive locally made jewellery on offer which typically will feature amber and agate. A top tip when buying gold in Turkey is to check goods for the gold seal which it must display if it authentic. Being cautious for all types of fakes in Marmaris is a good idea, but common sense should tell you that you aren’t buying an authentic Rolex watch for a tenner!
