Torremolinos overview

Torremolinos
One of the most famous resorts in Costa del Sol, Torremolinos was one of the first to be developed for tourism during the 1950s and 60s. Today the resort has two distinct areas; the more developed Torremolinos town centre and the more authentically Spanish, La Carihuela.

Sun, sand, sea…
The gorgeous beaches and bright sunny weather are two of the biggest pull factors of the town. Playamar beach is one of the best though this does also make it very popular, especially during the summer. Water sports such as paragliding, windsurfing and waterskiing are widely available on all beaches. Other great beaches (all linked) are Los Alamos, Bajondillo, La Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo.

…and Sangria!
During peak season, Torremolinos has a very lively nightlife. There are literally hundreds of bars and clubs and a growing gay scene. Restaurants are open until late and the clubs fill up in the early hours. Fun Beach is a club with several dance floors and even has its own swimming pool. Palladium is open until 6am and is another very popular night spot. Other options include Oscars (more mature crowd), Nogalera (gay disco), and Hotel Torrequebrada (large casino).

A taste of authentic Spain
For a really ‘Spanish’ experience make sure you visit La Carihuela, Torremolinos’ old fishing quarter. Here there are some great beach front restaurants (‘chiringuitos’) serving traditional Spanish dishes full of fresh fish and sea food. There is a long promenade that runs parallel to the beach, connecting the area with the Port of Banalmadena and its energetic night life.

For the kids…
Just 3km north-west of Torremolinos is Tivoli World, the biggest theme park in Costa del Sol. As well as a great selection of rides, the park includes restaurants, bars, concerts and flamenco shows. If you want wet fun in the hot weather, try Aquapark with its water slides, rapids and pools. Crocodile Park is also a good day out, complete with nursery, mini zoo and play area alongside its 300 alligators and crocodiles.

Shopping!
San Miguel is the main shopping street, running through the centre of Torremolinos town. Here you can buy anything from ceramics, to ethnic masks, to leather goods and jewellery. For swimwear and other beach accessories try Paseo Maritimo, also a good place to pick up a few souvenirs.
