The county has many traditional music festivals including the Queen Maeve International Summer School, a traditional Irish Music school of music and dance, held annually in August in Sligo Town. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the lakes of Sligo with their wooded islands and still waters contrast the rugged uplands, serving as an inspiration to the author Yeats who is buried at Drumcliffe Churchyard. Famous landmarks include the imposing Neolithic cairn on the pinnacle of Knocknarae, known locally as Queen Maeve's grave, while visitors will find the largest Megalithic cemetery in Ireland at Carrowmore; Lissadell House, once home to Countess Markievicz and a recommended family attraction, with a lovely beach nearby. Sligo’s picturesque coastline offers excellent surfing beaches such as Strandhill, Enniscrone and Rosses Point, also known for their superb golf courses.
