County Galway is located in the West of Ireland and has some of nature's most breathtaking scenery, with wild and craggy countryside dotted with stone walls, tranquil lakes and streams, as well as long sandy beaches and soaring mountains. County Galway is known as the 'stone wall County', due to the many stone walls used as boundary markers throughout the county and is the gateway to other magnificent areas such as the Connemara, a National park with the picturesque town of Clifden as its capital, Corrib country and the Aran Islands. Other places well worth exploring include Ballinasloe, with its famous annual horse fair, Gort, with its Irish literary revival links and great for touring the Burren and Galway City.
