Quarteira Quarteira, located on Portugal’s popular Algarve, was once a small fishing village and like so many other small fishing villages, has now been developed into a tourist resort. Unfortunately the high rise holiday apartments swamp the old part of town, but despite this the some of the old town charm remains. The town boasts the largest promenade on the coast: it's beautifully lined with local palms and flowers and runs alongside the long sandy beach. Approximately 25 kilometres from Faro airport, this seaside resort is very popular with holidaymakers and golfers and offers everything you would expect from a modern resort. Situated close to several championship golf courses, this resort proves popular with many golfers. This is not a hectic resort, so it makes a great choice for families, couples and anyone after a quiet holiday. On Wednesday, search for a bargain at the popular market that sells plenty of handicrafts such as lace tablecloths, bags and pottery.
