With Mount Vesuvius by its side, Naples was founded by the Greeks and expanded by the Romans which helped create the historically rich metropolis it is today. Although the city is often overlooked by tourists it is the perfect place for travellers to experience traditional Italy. The compact city centre makes it easy to get around and some of its monuments and historical buildings, such as the Duomo cathedral can easily be seen in an afternoon. The Galleria Umberto at Via San Carlo houses some exclusive shops and boutiques and is well worth visiting for its stunning architecture alone. The city is packed with bars and restaurants which are the perfect venue to sample some of the city’s world famous pizza.
