Overview
Budapest possesses a rich and fascinating history as well as a vibrant cultural heritage. Recognising the unique value of its traditions it has managed to maintain its magic and charm and is rightly known as the Queen of the Danube. It has also been called the City of Spas, made famous by the Roman love of baths and thermal springs, and features dozens of thermal baths, served by hundreds of thermal springs. Two thousand year old Roman ruins, including parts of an amphitheatre can be viewed in the Aquincum Museum and further fascinating sights include the Castle District, River Danube embankments and the Andrassy ut – all identified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
