Overview

Belgium’s capital city, Brussels is a sophisticated city with a lively atmosphere. It hits the headlines more often for its modern role as capital of the European Community, but its historical centre will appeal to the short break visitor. The Flemish quarter contains the most well known sites including the stunning Grand Place and the surrounding cobbled streets where you will find Belgium’s famous mascot, the Mannekin Pis. During the day you can stop at one of the many pavement cafes to sample the famous beers or head to Avenue Louise for excellent shopping. In the summer months, Sunday mornings can be spent browsing around the flower market in the Grand Place or the antiques at the Place du Grand Sablon. Brussels has plenty to do at night – try the many theatres, cinemas, concerts, jazz clubs and discos.
