Passport/Visa
General British 10-year passport (or five-year child passport if you are under 16 and not on a parent’s passport) every time you travel to Europe. This includes day trips and travel by Eurostar. Many countries no longer check passports at their land borders, but they still expect visitors to be able to produce a valid form of identification. For UK travellers this is the British passport. Remember, your passport will have to be checked at immigration control when you return to the UK. Belgium Holders of British passports, describing them as "British Citizens", do not require visas to enter Belgium. The passport should be valid for at least six months. If you intend to work or remain in Belgium for more than three months you must apply to the local communal authorities for a residence permit. Single parents or other adults travelling alone with children should be aware that some countries require documentary evidence of parental responsibility before allowing lone parents to enter the country or, in some cases, before permitting the children to leave the country.
