The nearest airport is Salzburg, about an hour's drive away. Innsbruck and Minuich are both about two hours' drive. Drivers from Salzburg should take the Tauernautobahn (Tauern motorway) in the southerly direction to Bischofshofen, then take the Gasteinertal exit, then Road No. 167 into the Gastein valley. From Innsbruck take the motorway via Wörgl, then Road No. 312 via St.Johann/Tirol to Lofer, then road No. 311 via Zell am See to Lend, then Road No. 167 to Gastein. Alternatively take the motorway Kufstein - Salzburg - Villach, come off at Gasteinertal exit and that Road No. 167 into the Gastein valley. Coming from the south, drive to Mallnitz via Villach, Möllbrücke and Obervellach and take the train-car ferry to Gastein. Euro, Intercity, express and local trains stop at Bad Hofgastein station. There are continuous taxi and bus connections to the individual parts of the town. The nearest train-car ferry station is in Bischofshofen. Luggage transfer is by means of taxi. The main train station is three kilometres (two miles) north of town, and most arrivals are met by a local bus which takes you into the centre. There's a smaller station, Bad Hofgastein Haltestelle , much nearer the town centre, but only regional trains stop here. The town's bus station , served by regular Badgastein-Zell am See and Badgastein-Schwarzach services, is just 1km west of the centre on the main road through the valley. A free ski bus operates in resort.
