31 May 2008
Good clean hotel with a good location only a 10 minute bus ride ( 47-49 ) away from the centre of Pest - nive local bar ( Cafe Rio ) only a few minutes walk away where driks are quite cheap- would stay againif ever back in Budapest.

Greetings to all Greef's staff, they had been excepcionally friendly, and commited to us, the service to us from all of them superb, we just miss the double bed or a bath, room 318, shame of the shower after use it firs night the bathroom was cover by one inch of water, thats was funny, the breakfast great as well, and the premises were spotless at all the times, we will come back, thankfully

hidden gem

11 January 2008
when we reserved we expected for the price a very basic at best hostel. what we actually got was a spotlessly clean airy bright hotel. All the staff were extremely naturally friendly who went out of their way to be helpful. transport is no problem at all trams and buses stop just 50m from the hotel - no problem though with noise from the street. We did however find it wasnt too easy finding outlets for multiple tickets in the city. Would recomend this hotel to anybody. thanks Laszlo and Vilmosz

excellent 3 star hotel

16 November 2007
griff hotel surprised us,as we expected a fairly basic hotel, but we were absolutely delighted with the standards. many 3* hotels in ireland and britain could not even compare to the value we got in the griff.alpharooms you really are tops when it comes to value and quality.single beds were 3ft 6ins wide and really comfortable.fresh towels every day,and kettles in some rooms.mini bar in every room.very helpfull reception staff.loads of free maps and tourist info.they will book theatre, river cruises, folklore shows, taxis, anything you want. tram no 19 stops outside door and will bring you up along the buda side of the danube to near the castle district.bus no 47-49v also stops outside door and will have you in the centre of pest in 10 minutes for 125forints=90cents or 60pence. get your tickets at hotel reception,as buses and trams do not sell tickets on board.you must validate your ticket the moment you get on a tram or bus, or before you ride the metro or you will be fined. a tip for future griff hotel guests.arrive early for breakfast and you will have a fabulous array of food available.after 9am they dont seem to refill the gaps.i noticed a previous reviewer had a problem with hot water at breakfast.thats because for tea drinkers they use a self service boiler and if one uses the hot mik instead of the cold then theres no problem. its a coffee drinkers heaven,as a modern dispenser has everything from latte to cappuchino.evening meals are very good value compared to dining in central pest. jacuzzi, beauty salon with great value message.safe at reception was free of charge unlike some countries,so rember to deposit the family jewels there.a lovely quiet hotel that does not tolerate noise or rowdy behaviour.local people will warm to you if you learn a few words of hungarian before you go.for the price we paid i would consider this to be the best value i have ever got for my hard earned bucks.like arnold said- ill be back.

Disappointed no swimming pool here.
No traffic noise.
Transport links very good and easy to get to all sights.Airport about one hour.
Staff very helpful.Good value for money.Book early as this hotel is not often available at discount rate.

I found the hotel very clean, was in a good location (tram stopped outside to go to the centre) and the staff were very helpful.  We went half board and the food was not to our taste and there was no choice of meals at dinner. The Leisure Centre facilities were very good also.

A nice hotel, and the staff are most helpful and friendly.
Transport links, to each part of the city, just outside of the door. We enjoyed our stay very much, and we would recommend this hotel for its location and nice prices. We hope to come back again some day.

The Griff was a great hotel.  The breakfast was very nice and the room was comfortable.  It is just a short tram ride away (No 49) to Deak square the central square of Budapest.  From here it is possible to get everywhere either on foot or by metro.  It only costs 185 forints(50p)for the tram and metro and tickets can be bought from the reception desk. Tickets must be validated when on the tram/metro.   I would definitely recommend the griff hotel for its location and value for money.

At the price we paid for a 4-day stay in this hotel, it must be the bargain of the year. It was well up to the 3-star standard advertised - clean and bright, with decent-sized rooms (huge beds). Nice restaurant, reasonably priced. Good breakfast with plenty of choice and good service. Somebody else commented that they don't know what hot water is, and I'd have to agree with this. That was our only, very minor gripe. Transport links to the centres of both Buda & Pest are excellent, with frequent trams stopping just outside the door. I would recommend this hotel to anybody requiring reasonably-priced, comfortable accommodation.

Buda is by far the most picturesque and historic part of town. The hotel was all that you would expect from a modern, friendly and comfortable hotel. Could benefit from an extension to the breakfast buffet menu. Will be better when they have finished the tram extension which will connect to one of the better thought out and affordable public transport systems in a European city - pavements/road are a bit of a mess at the moment on the short walk from the current tram terminus. Griff's customer care though only being matched by that of alpharooms.com  Thanx

Griff Hotel was a fair quality 3* but the breakfast was very poor both in choice of food and service. We asked several times for boiling water to make tea and coffee but they seem to have a mental block about such things maybe luke warm water is cultural for drinks. I also asked for an additional pillow for my wife and was given one with no cover it was quite grubby so we did not bother to use it. Overall service was not consistant drinks were very expensive and the bar shut at 11pm even for residents.I would think twice about using same Hotel in the future even though the price from Alpharooms was reasonable.
