Review of 'GRAND ASTON'
10 May 2005
Me and my wife stayed here during October 2000. The Grand Aston is an impressive looking building, situated about 10 minutes walk from the sea front, a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping area and, more importantly about 10 minutes walk from the station. I would definitely recommend exploring the area by train as the 15 minute journey to Monaco/Monte Carlo is breathtaking along the Cote D'Azur, and going the other way, Cannes takes about an hour to reach. The pair of us don't speak any French but it wasn't a problem. The hotel rooms were as you would expect for a four star - well equipped and fairly spacious but nothing exceptional. The same applies to the hotel itself - neat, tidy and quiet as you would expect. Breakfast, although continental, was still enjoyable with wonderful coffee on offer and many varieties of bread, cheese, cold meats etc. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, but have since stayed at hotels closer to the seafront. Prices in Nice seemed much the same as the UK which was a surprise as I expected it to be expensive. Monte Carlo was the same too, although Cannes was a lot pricier (take a sandwich here !) My only word of warning, which you couldn't blame the hotel for, was that it rained virtually the whole time we were there, which I have since learnt is not unusual for October. I now go to Nice during Spring ! All in all, not bad. Not bad at all.
