Grand Hotel Aston

20 July 2008
Stayed in this hotel for one week this summer. Generally this is not what you expect from a 4star hotel. The hotel is in desperate need of renovation. We were on third floor and the room was in bad shape. Walls cracked, bad paint and furniture. Bathroom mirror broken. Thanks god, everything worked. The only good and new thing in room was a new ~25 inch LCD TV. Althoug, only one channel in english - CNN. Breakfest was the second week point. Every day for 7 days the same. Not a littlest change. And very narrow selection of food. One kind of ham and 2 cheeses for 7 days. Just a basic kit for survival. At least the breakfest was included in the total price. I would never pay a 20eur pp for this food every morning. There were some positive aspects too. Hotel was clean and staff helpful and kind. The location was perfect. Close to everything - beach, old town, bus and tram.

Review of 'GRAND HOTEL ASTON'

10 October 2006
We arrived in October 06 and were dissapointed that the pictures of the hotel were misleading. The gardens and fountains shown on the website are across the road and not in the hotel grounds. The fountains were not working and there is substantial construction work taking place around the hotel due to the new tram lines.

Following check in, we were taken to room 503 which was in poor condition, old and worn with damaged fixtures and fittings. When I requested a room change I was initially told that the rest of the rooms were the same but was eventually given another room which I was told was a deluxe room, which was smaller but much tidier. I was advised that it was a more expensive room but when I expressed my my dissatisfaction the extra charge was waived.

The staff were generally very helpful, the breakfast was good and the location of the hotel is excellent. Rooms are generally in need of refurbishment.

Review of 'GRAND ASTON'

10 May 2005
Me and my wife stayed here during October 2000. The Grand Aston is an impressive looking building, situated about 10 minutes walk from the sea front, a couple of minutes walk from the main shopping area and, more importantly about 10 minutes walk from the station. I would definitely recommend exploring the area by train as the 15 minute journey to Monaco/Monte Carlo is breathtaking along the Cote D'Azur, and going the other way, Cannes takes about an hour to reach. The pair of us don't speak any French but it wasn't a problem. The hotel rooms were as you would expect for a four star - well equipped and fairly spacious but nothing exceptional. The same applies to the hotel itself - neat, tidy and quiet as you would expect. Breakfast, although continental, was still enjoyable with wonderful coffee on offer and many varieties of bread, cheese, cold meats etc. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, but have since stayed at hotels closer to the seafront. Prices in Nice seemed much the same as the UK which was a surprise as I expected it to be expensive. Monte Carlo was the same too, although Cannes was a lot pricier (take a sandwich here !) My only word of warning, which you couldn't blame the hotel for, was that it rained virtually the whole time we were there, which I have since learnt is not unusual for October. I now go to Nice during Spring ! All in all, not bad. Not bad at all.
