pre cruise stay
27 June 2008
We stayed there for two days before a cruise out of Barcelona. The room was perfect, the breakfast even better. We found the location very convenient as we arrived with the train at Sants station and left with the subway. While we were there we used the tourist bus and saw everything on our plan and more. We would gladly spend some more time there.

City Break
26 May 2008
From our arrival we were impressed by the staff, decor and cleanliness of the hotel. We were made welcome and given all the information we needed before we went to our accomodation. We found our room to be spacious and it was cleaned every day. Tea and coffee facilities and mini bar were in the room although as you might expect the mini bar was a bit pricey. Breakfast comprised of a good selection of both hot and cold foods, and staff were very friendly and accomodating. The only down side is that it is a bit away from the 'hub' and there is not a lot of pubs and restaurants at night however it was only a brisk 15 minute walk to the Nou Camp Stadium. I would definately stay here again.

Grand Hotel Ggroup of 8 on Stag Night 03/05/08 to 06/05/08
07 May 2008
Just got back from stage night in Barcelona. The hotel and staff are excellent. Choice of food at breakfast to suit eveyone's taste and excellent for the person with a big appetite.Rooms were of excellent quality for the price we paid and one room even had an extra bed. Next to Sants station so easy to travel. Only bad point was were made to wait for rooms as not ready due to late checkouts and the fact you can not use the spa/pool befor 2.00pm. Otherwise excellent.

Gran Torres Does Barcelona Proud!
18 April 2008
Having been to Barcelona on previous occasions always staying on Las Ramblas, my recent stay at the Gran Torres Catalunya was my first away from the epicentre of the city. From setting foot in the Gran Torres, it was a winner with an amazing welcome from well informed staff who are totally fluent in English. The whole decor of the hotel is contemporary, the rooms being spacious and well fitted out - the crowning glory being the bathrooms. Although slightly worried about the hotel location, this actually proved to be a boon perfectly placed next to Metro stations at Estacio Sants, Tarragona and Place Espanya. (Having recently stayed in New York, London and Rome - they could all learn lessons from Barcelona's public transport system!). Breakfast in the Visual Restaurant was well stocked, presented well, with staff ensuring that your every need was attended too. Barcelona is a many faceted sexy city and the Gran Torres is a glowing example of how to get things right. After a visit like that, I can't wait to return!

a pleasant stay indeed
13 April 2008
our visit to Barcelona was enhanced by this hotel. from check-in to check-out it was faultless service. We upgraded to a superior room for the views. Fantastic view of the hillside. We enjoyed the breakfast as well, although we did find the 'english' breakfast bits were not fresh by the end of breakfast, but we enjoy a 'spanish' breakfast too. lovely fresh fruit. very spacious room everything about the hotel said "four stars"

Great Hotel, Wonderful Staff, Fantastic City
06 March 2008
Stayed at this hotel at the end of February, and it was fantastic. At arrival (really late 11pm) the check-in staff were brilliant, we got a room upgrade for free and the view was brilliant as it was a corner room. The rooms are well equipped, tv, minibar, snacks, tea/coffee making facilities, ironing board, hairdryer etc. Bed was very comfortable! The staff at the hotel couldn't be any more friendlier, they really made our stay worth it. We had breakfast included and it was amazing, different types to suit anyone's dietry needs and tastes. The location was fantastic, right next to the mainline station with easy access to the popular Las Ramblas. There is a Hypermarket right next door. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Barcelona. We really thouroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel and would definately stay here again.

As good as 4* gets
23 February 2008
We have stayed in many hotels world wide and this is just about as good as 4star gets. Great staff, english spoken by all, very helpful, large rooms, extremley clean, king size beds and comfortable too. This hotel is out of the main steam and all the better for it no noise even with the adjacent building work. soon to be finished. the Metro, taxis and buses could not be better. London eat your heart out.
I have no hesitation in recomending this hotel to anyone visiying Barcelona for work, pleasure or a short break.
We will be back even if its just for the view from the restaurant unbeatable.

Very nice Hotel
07 February 2008
Just returned from 3 night break at the hotel. Location was great right next to main station and metro. Taxis available just outside. Handy Hipermarket next door but closed on Sunday. Cant fault the hotel very clean and freindly staff, 24 hour room service, gound floor bar and reataurant open utial 1am. We did not use visual restaurant on top floor but looked good, but a bit pricey. Breakfast was served on top floor untill 10.30 am, very good choice and cooked food was hot.

Great Hotel
28 January 2008
First time in Barcelona and after the great reviews on this hotel, decided to stay here.
I have to say that I was really impressed. It was a 20 minute journey from the airport via the train (which run every half hour and is free to Sants Station) and the hotel is right across the road from the station. Just walk out and look for the blue Sony sign!
Excellent service via the staff - treated us really well and gave us a good run down of things to do during our day - extremely helpful.
Room was really comfortable and definately a good standards. Only complaint was the towels need to be replaced - I think they are now over used!
We also included Breakfast in our stay and there was such a good variety on offer. Try not to get there too early, as some of the food was sitting there untouched for over an hour. It is better to go when there is a constant flow of people, to ensure that you get something that is slightly fresher!!!
Extremely easy to get around on the Metro. 10 journeys (which can be used by everyone is your party) cost 7 euros and 40 cents.
Great hotel, great city and would definately go back.

Fantastic Hotel arrival 16th November2007 for2nights
19 November 2007
Fantastic hotel,we arrived at the airport, trains weren't working but they provided us with a free buss to sats station, the station was right across the road from this hotel it was so convenient. We were greeted on the steps by a very pleasant young gentle man who offered to help with our cases.Check in was very quick and effeciante and to our suprise we got upgraded to a superiour room with beautiful views of Barcelona up on the 21st floor, the staff were very helpful we purchased some wine in the local hiper market and we didn't have a cork screw so they were very helpfull at reception when we asked them if they had a cork screw they came up to the room with an ice bucket for the wine,an excellent choice for breakfast hot & cold food(including champagne)anything you need to know the staff on reception are very happy to assist you.Bedrooms are very clean & modern with tea & coffee making facilities. We would deffinitely go back to this hotel again highly recomended could not find any fault.

Fantastic
13 September 2007
Fantastic hotel the staff were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. It was in a great position right next to Sants railway and metro station. We only had breakfast in the hotel but this was really nice a good variety and plenty of it. We upgraded for 12 euros a night when we got there to an executive room which has tea and coffee facilities you also you get a nice bathrobe and slippers. The toiletries in the bathroom was a nice surprise some of the items included, shampoo, conditioner, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor. t was well worth paying the extra as the executive rooms are on the higher floors with great views. We were on the 18th floor and had fantastic views of Barcelona.
The hotel is in a great position right next to Sants railway and metro station. You can get a T10 ticket which gives you 10 journeys on the bus and metro and costs 6.90 Euros which is approx £4.80, you can use more than one train per journey as long as you don't exit the station.
If you don't want to eat in the hotel there are cafe's in the railway station along with Mcdonalds. There is also a supermarket next to the hotel where you can get food to take to your room if you want to. There is also a shop in the station where you can get most things along with English newspapers.
You can get a train from the airport straight to Sants railway station and the hotel is opposite the station it costs 2.50 Euros one way which is alot cheaper than a taxi.
I would definately recommend this hotel and would stay in it again if I ever went back to Barcelona

Standard Alpharooms room is up to floor 11 which are nice rooms but no view. Helpful staff upgraded us to a suite (extra cost) but had fabulous room with amazing view. Fantasitic restaurant on 23rd floor, taster menu with 6 different wines seemed expensive but turned out to be well worth it. Catalan wines are amazing!

19 June 2007
The hotel is in a great location, just next door to Sants Station so it was ideal for hopping on the metro to go round the tourist attractions. The rooms were large and clean and the spa facilities were great (although we didnt get chance to use these which was a shame) the view from the restaurant was amazing...definately not recommended if you have vertigo though !!!
My only gripe with the hotel was the food as the english breakfast was stone cold, but apart from that there was a good variety with champagne on hand if you fancied a glass.
I'd definately recommend this hotel to anyone going to Barcelona.

Review of Gran Hotel Catalunya
03 June 2007
Just returned having spent 2 nights at this hotel. Our choice proved to be a good one and added to a very pleasant visit to Barcelona. The hotel is conveniently situated next to Sants Station. From here there are excellent Metro and bus services to all areas of the city. The open top tourist bus also stops here. The airport is about 20 minutes away by local train which runs every half hour. We were warmly welcomed by reception staff who spoke very good English. We had booked a room for a family of 3 and were not dissapointed. Our room was on the 10th floor with great views across the city. It was very spacious and the childs bed was a full size single bed. The beds were very comfortable. The room was clean and well appointed with plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom had a bath and large walk in shower. The room also had a flat screen TV with news channels in English and a mini bar with space for our own drinks. Additionally there was a safe in the room. Our included breakfast was served in the restaurant on the 23rd floor. This was a buffet with good choice of hot and cold food. The view from the restaurant are stunning. Even if you are not eating in the restaurant in the evening, go up and have a look at the city by night.
Next door to the hotel is a supermarket which we found useful for snacks and drinks etc. Only downside is that some of the the main tourist sites are not really in walking distance and at the moment there is building work outside the station which continues at night. Our room faced this and it did not cause a noise problem.
In summary, a comfortable hotel conveniently located for public transport with pleasant helpful staff. If you are happy to use the Metro and buses to get around book this hotel.
Thoroughly recommended.

Hotel was excellent. The higher the floor..the better the view. We were on the 21st floor! Staff excellent and huge choice of hot/cold breakfast cereals, meats, toasts, etc including Cava!
Main station is 3mins...metro 4 mins.Recommend T10 day ticket..you can get these on buses or metro.
Although out of main areas it is better because the metro/buses will take you anywhere from the hotel.
1st night we found excellent restaurants by walking through Sants station and along mains road...Tapas 7 courses including wine for £35 per couple!
This hotel costs a little more but rooms are massive...the hotel does what is says on the tin!

This hotel came very recommended and having spent the last 3/4 days there I can understand why. From the moment we checked in until the time we left everthing was just perfect. The check in procedure was so easy with such a pleasant girl offering advice. The bell boy was also very friendly and took time after showing us to our room, to explain the full layout of the room and its facilities. Even days later he acknowledged us and asked if we were enjoying our stay. We were booked in on Bed/Breakfast basis and once again the restaurant was fantastic. The view was unbelievable and again the staff so friendly and helpful. The situation of this hotel is ideal with the Sants Railway Station right across the road and the local Metro also right on the doorstep. Travel to anywhere in the city was so easy. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would like to thank everyone there for making our stay so pleasant. I hope to return here in the very near future.

Great service and food at this hotel. Very easy to get to -take the train from airport to the third stop and it is across the road from the station. Only drawback at this present time is construction work nearby which goes on both day and night except on Sunday and was very noisy from our bedroom.

Fantastic hotel right next to the train station. We were going from Salou for an overnight stay to watch Barcelona play. The stadium is about a 20 minute walk and it's mostly flat so if you fancy it you can walk there rather than getting the metro. The room was beautiful and the bathroom fantastic. The breakfast was nice except the bacon is that horrid stuff but the rest was great. You can even have champagne with it! Definately recommend this hotel what a view as well.

Review of 'GRAN HOTEL TORRE CATALUNYA'
07 February 2007
This hotel has many plus points and only a few minuses.
The hotel's location is ideal if you are coming from the airport on the train into Sants station, as it is only a 2 minute walk from the station. However, you are quite far from the Ramblas area and the Barrio Gotico, so you'll need to use the Metro or be prepared for a long walk!
Staff at reception were pleasant and helpful, speaking English very fluently if required. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and spacious with great views - even from the 8th floor where ours was situated. The bathroom was also extremely spacious and rather luxurious in my opinion - good lighting, nice towels and toiletries too. Mini bar prices were very reasonable too.
The only disappointments with the hotel were the quality of the breakfast and an unfortunate experience with a barman, who tried to overcharge me. The breakfast was very lacklustre and repetitive - even after only 3 days. It really did not compare well with other 4-star hotels I have visited across europe. However, the view from the restaurant was quite breath-taking and almost made up for the uninspiring food!
I must also mention Barcelona El Prat airport has what must be the cheapest airport transfer in Europe - Buy a 10-trip ticket (Tarjeta T-10) for €6.90 at the Airport Station, and 2 people can use the same ticket to get to Sants, costing €1.38 in total (that's less than £1!!!). The comparable journey in England (Heathrow to Victoria Station) would cost you eight times as much, or a laughable 31 times (£31) using the Heathrow Express.

After reading previous reviews we were very dissapointed. When we arrived at reception we euros per night which was only a normal room on the 10 th floor. After much talking at reception we were given a nice room on the 18th floor. The breakfasts were very poor for a 5 star hotel with bacon, eggs etc cold. We had to wait for tables to be cleaned before we sat down. There are no lounges to relax in. The staff were very nice but the facilities were very poor for a 4 star hotel.

I chose this hotel initially because it was close to Barcelona Sants Station where I was arriving after visiting friends in the country. The hotel is only a two minute walk from the station and can easily be seen from the station entrance by just looking up. This is a truly great hotel - my accommodation was a corner room on the 16th floor with a stunning view over Barcelona When the evening lights came on it resembled the sort of luxury suite you only see in the movies. There was a plasma screen t.v. with 36 channels and a C.D. player. The bathroom consisted of separate rooms for shower, toilet and bath and had wall controls for the sound system. As well as the usual soap and shampoo, the hotel provided a tooth brush, comb, disposable razor and other toiletries. Breakfast, which was a splendid buffet affair was served on the 23rd floor with staff attending to your every need. In fact service was overall impecable. I would recommend this hotel as an experience in itself.

Our stay at this hotel was fantastic. We were a group of 22 and all 11 rooms were of a very high standard - comfortable, clean with luxorious bathrooms! The breakfast on both mornings was superb, plenty of choice, plenty to eat and all good. Again the young girl organising the seating was lovely. The Hotel was wonderful. It exudes quality. The reception on arrival is airly and welcoming, and the staff are punctual and extremely polite. All information about the hotel is easily obtainable with the handbooks provided. The rooms are all very spaciuos and clean and have air-conditioning as standard.
The leisure facilities are great too, with a modern gym, spa facility and array of treatments on offer, you won't be disappointed.
The best bit of the hotel is on the top floor, this is where you will find the restaurant...yes the food is exquisit and the views are spectacular. The whole city can be viewed from the top floor, and the sangrada famillia is easily viewable from this floor. A highly recommended hotel for any traveller to Barcelona.

Magnificent Gran Torre Barcelona
03 October 2006
My wife and myself have nothing but the highest praise for this superb hotel in Barcelona! We booked this hotel to celebrate a Wedding Anniversary and I "e" mailed the hotel a few days before our trip. When we booked in on Thursday 28th September, we were immediately upgraded to a magnificent corner suite room on the 22nd floor. We also received a nice bottle of Cava which was the icing on the cake! All the staff from reception through to the very efficient room cleaner were exceptionally friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble! Tips for visiting this hotel! 1. Take the train on arrival at airport direct into Sants station ( you don't have to leave airport, just cross the walk way across to train station -Trains every 30mins. 2.Hotel directly in front of you on exit from Sants Station, perfectly safe to walk across to hotel entrance. 3. Hotel bar food excellent with comfortable seating and excellent service (Bar open each night to 1.30am. 4. Make sure you take breakfast each morning in Visual Restuarant on the 23rd floor with superb visibility across this beautiful city (Bring camera to catch images) 5. Must do - Take 2 day Tourist bus from Sants Station which covers everything you would wish to see in this City (Hop on, Hop off as you wish). 6. Fantastic Restuarant you must visit "Les Quinze Nits" at Placa Reial Square off Las Ramblas. Make sure you arrive early at no later than 20.00 as queue quickly forms before opening time at 20.30 hrs.

Review of 'GRAN HOTEL TORRE CATALUNYA'

I have booked a number of hotels through alpharooms and found these reviews to be very helpful in assessing a hotel. I rate the Torre Catalunya very highly. Good location beside Sants Estatio you have access to all areas of Barcelona. The Airport Bus stops outside also. The hotel is 23 storeys high. When I arrived I asked for a room high up in the hotel for the view. I was given a corner room on the 10th floor which was supposed to be non smoking but the previous occupant clearly ignored this and the room reeked of smoke. Within 5 minutes I was changed to another room - on the 5th floor which I thought was very well equiped and spacious. Every aspect of the hotel was good and I have no complaints. It was amazing having your breakfast in the 23rd floor restaurant every morning. The place really does merit its 4 star rating.
They have a business room for internet/business and are very friendly and not expensive (€3.20 for 30 minutes). The Spa / gym costs €6 and is very clean and well equiped.
The food was very good. I found the price for this hotel very competitive and good value

The hotel is very central to Barcelona. The rooms were clean with fresh linen every day. The staff were very helpful and polite. The breakfast choice was huge and varied a fair amount each day. The hotel is very close to the underground, which is a great inexpensive way to travel around the city. The tour bus which is also excellent value stops just across the road. The view from the restaurant is amazing as it is on the top [23RD} floor. There is also a spa in the hotel which we did not try but seemed good value for money.

We booked our 6 night stay via the internet, travelling with Easyjet and Alpharooms. Everything went according to plan with no problems at all, saving us probably one-third of the cost of a package holiday with a travel agent! This is our first time travelling independently and would definitely do it again. The hotel was modern, very clean, English was well spoken by the hotel staff, and the food and service was excellent. The outstanding feature of this hotel is its roof-top restaurant where you can eat breakfast with views of Barcelona from every window! The air conditioned bedrooms were most welcome in the August heat.
The hotel is very conveniently situated, only a 20 minute train ride from the airport, and is literally across the road from the train station (Sants). We found some good restaurants in this Sants area doing Menu Del Dia for around 8 euros per person with a real Spanish atmosphere, ideal if you dont want to travel into the main tourist area. Will definitely return.

The hotel is very nice and the staff are all good at speaking english if you need anything.i recommend booking with breakfast for the food and the views you have from the restaurant on the 22nd floor as breakfast will cost you 15 to 20 euros anyway. The hotel is 40 mins walk from la ramblas if you can find your way or 8 euros by taxi. it is opposite main train and metro if you wish.if you like to be able to walk straight outside and find a bar or something of interest then this is not for you the araea around the hotel has not got much on offer.the indoor pool is in the basement spa which you will have to pay 6 euro to use but you get to use the gym but was not good for me as i like to go for just a swim after a day enjoying the sites and attractions of this beutiful city. there is a rooftop pool in the next door hotel that you can use but not sure if there was a charge.there is a supermarket next door to get drinks and munchies to avoid paying for that minibar that always gets you at the end on checkout when you raelise youve spent 40 euros on a few drinks and some food . i stored my own drinks in the minibar and no one said anything.the room were clean and attractive with tv cd player and plenty of space and bathrooms with two sinks bath with shower and a power shower that was really refreshing after ahot day and could wake you from the deepest of hangovers in a couple of seconds.we travelled with another young couple early twenties and enjoyed this hotel but found we spent alot on taxis getting to and from the main la ramblas and the olympic port on days and night. checkout is at 12 but we had a later flight and could keep the room till 8 for 40 euro so that we could get freshened up before travelling.as im sure anybody going to barcelona realises that it is expensive to eat and drink while you are there as we only went for 3 nts 4 days and spent 600 pounds.

hotel itself was great, very modern hotel...Staff spoke fluent english, and were very helpfull if you needed anything!!Rooms were changed and cleaned daily. only problem was there wasnt a pool to use, unless you paid 6 euros to enter the health spa, but there is a pool in the hotel next door, which is about a 5 minute walk and the pool is on the roof of the expo hotel. The hotel itself is not far from the main attractions and places to go in barcelona its a short taxi ride from/to the rambalas which cost 6 euros at the most and 9 euros to the olympic port, and the beaches.. so all in all a very nice stay!!!

Review of 'GRAN TORRE CATALUNYA'
24 July 2006
July 2006 We have just come back from a three night trip at this hotel and found the staff helpful and friendly. Room was enourmous and well equipped with CD player, TV, Tea making facilities (no milk and supermarkets only seem to have UHT),great bathroom, ice on demand available in the corridor from a machine. Although there is a tiny pool available in the hotel (which is part of the Spa and I think you have to pay )there was free use of the sister hotel's roof top pool within 40yds. This is a bit small and has seen better days but it was still pleasant to be able to cool off (NB does not open till 10.30am so no swim before breakfast!) The hotel restraunt is on the top floor and has amazing views over Barcelona. Although there is very little in the way of shops / restraunts near the hotel this was not a problem as there is an excellent transport system. The hotel is within 100yds of Main Sant station and the Metro, and within 200yds of the Tourist bus route. We bought a 10 trip pass for the Metro when we arrived at the airport and the following day a pass for the tourist bus. As the hotel is so close to the train station it was an easy trip from the airport (note check if you need to change trains - we did on the way there but a new service was introduced during our short stay and the train was straight through on the way back. Only nigel was that glasses etc we had used for tea / drinks were not washed. ( a minor oversight - otherwise the room was cleaned well each day) Would we use this hotel again? Definetly

The Gran Hotel Catalunya proved to be the perfect location for our recent visit to Barcelona. It is right beside the Sants Station, which along with it's Metro links, is also the main Renfe train station for the area. The hotel itself was fantastic and the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The rooms were surprisingly large and very well appointed, with everything that one would expect from a four star hotel. The 'Visual' restuarant, which is on the top floor, offers a unique experience, either for breakfast, or dinner, both of which I would highly recommend. We will definetly be returning, very soon.

The hotel was great and in an excellent location by the Sants Station. Travel from and to the airport was easy, and access to all of the areas in Barcelona was quick and simple. Our hotel room had everything and was very clean. Breakfast was delicious and the view from the restaurant is amazing, especially in the evening. The only fault the hotel has is that you have to pay to use the health club facilities, even the swimming pool, otherwise I would have given it 5 out of 5. If you're a couple looking for a relaxing and romantic short stay in Barcelona, I highly recommend this hotel.

Review of 'GRAN TORRE CATALUNYA' 'ALPHFANTASTIC'
04 June 2006
From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed we were treated really well by very friendly staff at this Hotel. We had a standard room on the 12th floor which was large and had great views of Barcelona. The Hotel restaurent is on the 23rd floor and you can enjoy fantastic views of the city while having a good breakfast. We ate for Ireland at breakfast and had enough to last to dinner time. All in all it was a five star stay at the Gran Torre. Book it now.
Traveller Tip: Take the bus to the Airport (7.5 euro for two) which is just adjacent to the hotel. Taxi will cost 25 euro.
Best Regards
