I only hope that the one booked will not be a disappointment you have a very high standard to beat!!

excellent place to stay, entertainment great for kids, beer cheap at bar, food excellent, only snag was the stampede every morning with spanish claiming the best sun beds... they have never heard of queuing. just push and shove their way to top of queue.. same happened in restaurant no manners whatsoever, but despite that it didn't ruin our holiday. Israel and Isabell were fantastic entertainers and hope to go back again soon!

I booked this hotel off the internet for a short break with my Husband and my Grandson who is 1. Hotel is very clean and the food is good and plentiful. Our room could have been a bit bigger but I noticed that some of the rooms were larger than others. (Rooms on the 7th floor have an excellent view and a very large balcony with your own sunbeds). The pool area is clean and we never had a problem getting a sunbed although we did go in October. The staff at the hotel are lovely very helpful and pleasant and reception staff are very informative. I could not really fault this hotel in any way and would recommend this accommodation to anyone.

Stayed half board in the Golden Port Salou for 3 nights in May06 based on reviews on the site. Got a great rate of €140 for double room half board from alpharooms, whom I have booked with before.I found alpharooms have best rates. There is a coach service outside Reus airport into Salou, just give the name of your hotel to the driver and you will be dropped to the door. Its €5.50 one way. The hotel is lovely, spotlessly clean.Situated about 10 mins walk from Levante beach and the noise of Salou. The food was fantastic, fresh and hot. One chef cooks meat to order. Dishes are replenished frequently.Bucks fizz for breakfast!Drinks reasonable. Happy hour from 7 till 9pm. Salou has a beautiful beach promenade and fountains. There are toilets at regular intervals along beach. Also kiddies playgrounds. Going back to Salou next week, not staying in Golden Port hotel but only because I want to try a different hotel. I ll do a comparison on my return. I highly recommend the Golden Port Hotel to everyone. Enjoy! PS. 1ltr Smirnoff red about €11. Carton of cigarettes €37. Tip: Cigarettes can only be sold in tobacco shops in Salou. Supermarkets cannot stock them anymore. There are few cigarette machines as licence is expensive.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a long bank holiday weekend in May of this year. If you do book this hotel be sure to request a room on the 7th floor as these were the only rooms with sun loungers on the balconies and sun all day as there was nothing above them.. we were lucky enough to have been allocated one upon arrival. The room itself was small but the bathroom a nice size it was clean throughout and there was a TV with limited english channels and a hairdryer. The food was of typical spanish fare. My friend is a vegetarian and we really did believe they could have catered for her tastes more. The location of the hotel was great.. in a quieter area of Salou but a 5-10 minute walk to the beach and there was a large selection of shops and bars just yards away. The only real complaint I have about this hotel is the pool area and the lifts. The pool area really did need a good clean especially the pool itself, as for the lifts they needed some airconditioning as they were like mini sauna's.

Review of 'GOLDEN PORT SALOU'
22 May 2006
The Golden Port Salou is a clean and spacious Hotel, with a nice indoor and outdoor Pool area, and nightly entertainment and the Bar prices aren't that bad either. We spent 2 weeks here from 6-20/5/06, and to be honest this was too long, a week would have been plenty, and this was mainly due to the fact of the Hotel Food, Breakfast had the usual selection, breads, cereals, cakes and so called cooked breakfast, but that was the problem, the eggs were ok, but the bacon and sausage were raw, every single morning and you didn't have the option of asking the chef to stick them back on the hotplate for a few minutes as they were cooked in the back, the hotplate was being used for pancakes. The evening meal was even worse, they seemed to have more of a selection of fish than anything else, and any other meats on offer burgers, steak, pork and even chicken was raw. Dinner was not served until 7pm until 9.30pm, which if you have children is not ideal. We found that we had to feed our son at the normal time of around 5pm, so were spending more money on food. When yo did go down to tea at 7pm it was queued throughout reception, and they only have about 8 high chairs. We also found that although you are advised you can dine anytime between 7 and 9.30pm, the restaurant staff were frequently turning guests away at around 7.30 onwards saying there was a waiting time of 15-20mins before a table would be ready. We come across a number of guests that had ill with stomach upsets throughout our stay, whether this was down to the food we cannot say, but we were very wary of what we ate. It was as if the restaurant could not cope with the amount of guests, and this was the beginning of the season! However, there were guests there who did not seem to have a problem with the Hotel or Food, so maybe we were just being fussy. As for the resort of Salou, on first impressions it does seem quite scruffy, not like your typical resort, graffiti everywhere, and more like a town, Blackpool with Sun, but there are plenty of Bars and restaurants and the beaches are nice and clean. Overall we had a good time, but this is not a place we are likely to visit again.

I stayed in this hotel two years ago with my family and friend. Hotel was wondeful, food was amazing and most of all it was near the centre, ready for the nightlife. The pool area was lovely but you have to get up early to get the sunbeds!! i would definately recommend this hotel as you will have a brilliant holiday. For my holiday this year ive chosen to go back to salou and stay in this hotel....thats how nice it is!!!

Hotel very clean, food great, staff frendly. Only one thing the front of the hotel is very noisy, but i had no trouble they moved me when I explained I could not sleep so be warned. The manager sent us a bottle of champane for our 23rd wedding aniversary. We used the bus service to go to tarragona what a great place we went twice. Bus service is very cheap and regular.Over all a great holiday thank you alpha rooms.

My Family and I stayed at the Golden Port Salou for a week in August and we couldn't fault it. The hotel was immaculate, the staff were very friendly and didn't hesitate to help no matter what you needed. The food in the restaurant was plentiful, varied and of good quality. They even had champagne on a morning so you could have a Bucks Fizz. The entertainment was good throughout the week and appealed to kids and adults alike. Even the poolside entertainment throughout the day was good and it wasn't obtrusive. Will definately come back to this hotel. I had 3 thoughts - there wasn;t enough sunbeds by the pool (but then again it was mid August and there were plenty of people about), needed a bit more wardrobe/drawer space in the rooms and also a bigger rubbish bin. Now if I can only come up with daft whinges like that - then it must have been good!!!!!!

Review of 'GOLDEN PORT SALOU'
21 August 2005
This was my first time booking a sun holiday as an independant traveller and I was not disappointed.Hubby, 9 year old son and myself travelled here in August 2005. I booked the hotel with alpharooms and was, I must admit, a little apprehensive that my booking would be okay as this was my first venture into the self booking of a holiday hotel. I needen't have worried, everything went smoothly indeed. We were thrilled with this hotel and could not praise it highly enough. The lobby was very impressive, spacious, airy and bright ,we were greeted by a smiling receptionist and warmly welcomed to the hotel. The bedroom we were allocated was on the second floor with a fabuluous pool view. Though small, it was pleasently decorated and had a nice bathroom. Nothing prepared us for the dining room,to say we had a gastronomique adventure would not be exaggerating, the food was great. Breakfast and dinner were excellent on each of our ten days. We really enjoyed the gala night where the chef carved a huge roast beef and had REAL gravy and Yorkshire Puddings! Breakfast had Cava and fruit juices to make your own Bucks Fizz - yumm! The pool area was nice though the sun bed situation was very much hit and miss - HIT the sundecks with your towel at 9 am sharp or MISS a sunbed and have to sit on a chair to sunbathe. The queue for sunbeds started at 8.30 am each morning. Tip - if you ask for rooms 100 to 110 you will get a pool view with a balcony on the same level as the sundecks and you can step over your balcony wall and put out your towels without having to queue. We had a great holiday in this hotel - if you are looking for a classy three star hotel with great food, lovely staff and a quiet nights sleep - stay here. Ps the drinks were incredibly cheap only €2.20 for a pint of lager and 2 for the price of one for happy hour.

Firstly there was no problem with Alpha Rooms, the booking was smooth and check in easy at hotel. As suggested by previous reviewers, I did email the hotel direct but did not obtain a room with a pool view as requested. Suppose they can't satisfy everyone. Agree that the hotel was very clean, rooms spotless and staff friendly. Good location, away from immediate noise but close enough to the centre. In general the food was nice, but unsure how much choice (other than chips and cake) for any fussy kids. Major problem on our last evening, we found a dead ant in the soup!! Only other complaints which I feel worth mentioning, sunbeds are plentiful but it seems a little pointless to charge 2 Euro's for hire of a mattress. The 4Euro's a day charge for room safe whilst charged my most hotels, seems somewhat over the top.

We were a group of 17 ladies on a hen party. All of us agreed the hotel was fantastic value for money. The staff were very helpful and we particularly enjoyed the happy hour where you could have 2 drinks for the price of one. The food was nice with a good variety, gala night was very good with strawberrys and cream and champagne which you can imagine us ladies did take advantage of!!! Rooms were clean with air conditioning and any problems dealt with immediately.

I would recommend anyone to stay in this hotel. The hotel facilities and food are second to none. My family and I have stayed at this hotel several times over many years and have booked again to go this October. I have never had any problems with this hotel at all. I have found the hotel staff to be very friendly and helpful, nothing is ever too much trouble. In my last stay last October we had a wonderful time with friends, our children are aged 7 and 10 and the entertainer at the hotel made their time very enjoyable, the mums enjoyed the bingo too. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the same entertainer will be there when we return as he was a definate asset to an already top class hotel.

There was a wide range of food and plenty of it. THe rooms were clean and the staff freindly. The indoor pool left a little to be desired but if we had gone later in the year it wouldn't have mattered. We went with two teenage children and they found plenty to do. We had a great time and would happily go back.
