Although this was only a 1 day stop over, i was suprised at how pleasant this hotel is. Located just top of redlight district and 5 min walk from central station. Very nice staff, adequate rooms which were clean and quite spacious. Will be back

Long weekend

01 July 2008
No window in room, despite request when booking. Electronic machine to programme room doors not working - had to have a staff member to open door each time we wished to enter. Breakfast was good in Molly Malones next door. Great location - near Central station and most attractions.

Good Hotel

08 March 2008
Read some pretty awful reviews about this hotel so was very unsure when we arrived, got a very pleasant surprise though. It was 10 mins walk from Central Station and the reviews I read had no foundation as the hotel was perfectly OK, clean and rooms were pleasant.

Good location, short walking distance from Central Station. Easy to get around on foot. Staff were friendly, have a room to leave your luggage in before and after you check in/out. The room could have been cleaner dirty sink, cobweb around the curtain. But after a visit to the local coffee shop who cares ? Have had a brill weekend. Would I stay at the France again ? Yes I think I would.

Excellent location within walking distance of train station and all attractions. The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and tidy although a little overpriced. Tea and coffee facilities in the room would of been advantageous. The Irish bar was cosy and breakfast was substantial. Overall we were very happy with the hotel.

Brilliant location

21 September 2007
The france hotel was brilliantly located 5 minutes walk away from central station and within walking distance of all attractions. The hotel was overall very good but the room was very dark due to lack of windows.Breakfast was very good but if you arrive a minute after 10am you will have no chance of getting any thing to eat!!! I would recommend this hotel as the location is unbeatable. If there was anything negative to say about the france hotel it would be that tea and coffee making facilities in the room would really be a good idea as they only provide it in executive rooms At £90 a night I really think this should be standard for all rooms.

Excellent

It was a great location on a quiet canal, just minutes from Central Station. Convenient for exploring central Amsterdam on foot and by boat. Our room (double), was a good size, clean and comfortable. We had a full bathroom with hairdryer. The hotel was quiet, although full. We were not disturbed by any noise. Breakfast was adequate. We were having a one night break and the hotel location could not have been better for us.

Brilliant

11 July 2007
We stayed at the Hotel France for a long weekend - 3 nights. The room was very comfortable and clean, and the hotel was literally 2 minutes walk from nightlife in the red light district. Although it was so close to that area, it was surprisingly quite. We will definately be staying there again. The only thing about the room was that there was no window apart from 2 frosted ones so it was quite dark and had to have the light on whenever we were inside. Overall though, a very good place to stay.

Review of 'France' Hotel

16 April 2007
Hotel was clean and tidy and the room was of a reasonable size. The best thing about the hotel though is the location. Only 5 minutes from Central Station and easy to find. Close to Chinatown area and the Red Light district, but quiet enough in the night.
Breakfast in the Irish bar next door was of a self service nature and there was a reasonable selection, but nothing special. Please note that if you are a few minutes after 10.00a.m. they will start removing the food from the bar.
The only real down side though was the fact that our room only had one small window high and therefore it did seem a little closed in and no view outside.

Hotel France was ideally situated to discover Amsterdam. It was a 5 minute walk from the train station and Dam square in the centre. The infamous red light district was a 2 minute walk.
The hotel is very clean and quiet. There is an Irish bar next door (Molly Malones) which serves nice food and has a wide range of beers.
If we return to Amsterdam we would re-book at this hotel.

My friend and i are regular short break travellers and have now stayed in Amsterdam on 6 occassions. we found the France hotel to be clean, comfortable and with welcoming and attentive staff. We arrived at 9.30 am, we were able to check in ,leave our bags and hunt out some breakfast and the room was ready at 11.am.The room was large, and the beds well cumfy. The only draw back was the 3 windows in the room were frosted glass so you couldnt see out.The breakfast in the adjacent molly malones bar and  was great, lovely real irish welcome and a huge selection of hot and cold breakfast, so we filled our boots well!the France is well situated for central station and the red light area and fabulous bars and restaurants. Highly recommended hotel.

Our stay at the France was very enjoyable.
The bars and cafes in the local area seemed to be far nicer than in the busy RL district, but purched at the end of the heart of the centre, it meant only a short walk to get anywhere we wanted to go.
The accomodation itself was cheap, clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Although the room was pretty basic, it was of a reasonable size with two single beds pushed together, an en suite bathroom and a TV. Clean sheets and towels were provided on a dialy basis.
Our room had a high window at the top of the room and therefore allowed us no view of the outside world. This may not suit others but again was fine for us as we didn't intend to spend our time gazing out of the hotel room!
The hotel was all we needed or wanted for two nights and i would recomend it to anyone going for Amsterdam for a short stay and wanting to stick to a budget.

Internet facilities were available although at an hourly rate. Breakfast was included and served until 10.30.

Will definitely keep details of this hotel for any further visits to the Dam...

I stayed there for 4 days with my family, the Hotel is in a great location and the rooms are good, the bathroom in ours was a little small, and some of the fittings could have been placed more sensibly. Food in the Irish Bar next door was fine, and was a useful place to end the evening...Very Enjoyable

Our stay at the France was very enjoyable.  We were worried before we went due to the limited reviews on the Alpha site and very mixed reviews on Trip Advisor.  When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised.  The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel has recently benefitted from refurbishment.  Yes our room was fairly small but it had a double bed and separate bathroom which is all we needed for our 2 night stay.  The room, bedding and towels were cleaned daily.  We were at the back of the hotel so the view was limited but we didnt book our break to spend all our time sat in the hotel room!  Breakfast was served in the pub next door (which the hotel also owns).  The pub staff are incredibly friendly and laid back and the pub has a good atmosphere for post trekking drinks!  The hotel is in a great location and very close to Central Station. It was also very good value for money especially as breakfast was included in the price.

Review of 'FRANCE'

08 July 2006
The France hotel is ideally located, near the train station and within walking distance to EVERYWHERE.  Adjacent to the hotel is an Irish bar which is used for the included breakfast by the hotel (and is delicious).  The bar is also lovely to sit in with a few drinks before retiring to bed.  The rooms in the France Hotel vary from quite spacious to very small.  We went as three couples - one couple had a spacious room overlooking the canal, we had a roomy enough bedroom, overlooking a wall and the other couple had a tiny room overlooking the same wall.  I was content with my room and would return to the France Hotel if returning to Amsterdam
