Hotel room a little tired.Complimentary use of mini-bar was a bonus.The breakfast and general service was 1st class and could not be faulted.Location V.Good - right next door to the Dom and main railway station.

We visited Cologne for the first time to see the famous Christmas markets. We thought the Hotel Excelsior Ernst was an elegant homage to a historic City. Situated almost between the very impressive cathedral and the main railway station (actually a little too close to the latter) it was ideally located for exploring the whole city. The staff were very friendly and helpful even whilst I made ham-fisted attempts at speaking German. The room was spacious, warm, quiet and very clean. The mini bar was included in the price (bonus) and the breakfast (also included) was certainly five stars. On the down side, we did ask for a double room and received a twin and some of the fittings in the room looked a little tired. All in all though a great hotel with great service which complimented a super Christmas City break. By the way, booking with Alpha Rooms saved us around 60% on the price the Hotels’ own website quoted!
