Disappointing for the rating

29 August 2008
Hotel is looking tatty and rooms aren't in good condition; breakfast is canteen-style (not in a good way) and very crowded at weekends. The use of 'raffle' tickets for breakfast & drinks is a bit naff. It is, though, well located for Downtown (and easy to get about using the subway and buses) and having the extra room is good. Overall, it needs some refurbishment and tightening up of customer service quality etc - it could then be excellent!

The Hotel was modern but fell short of the five star rating.  This was disappointing and did not live up to expectation.  suites were smaller than expected and cold. The hotel does not have portable emergency heaters so we had to wait until their system came on, ( which it only does if the outside temperature falls below a certain level) so we were not very warm whilst we waited.  The staff did try to assist by offering robes and blankets.  Generally the staff were great. The area is quiet and we did indeed feel safe.  Was glad we did not choose Time square which is just mad!

Check out GRound Zero and be prepared to be moved when you do.  Also a cheap outlet store nearby Century 21.

Accommodation tends to be very small and expensive in New York, but the suites at this hotel are roomy and good value for money. Our room was for 3 adults and consisted of 2 queen size beds in a bedroom and a queen size sofa bed in the living room. The beds are large and comfy, the bed linen excellent quality, 1 tv in each room, a safe, a table and 4 chairs, an occasional table, a sofa and an armchair, a microwave and coffee maker, hairdryer, bathrobes, reasonable toiletries, a bath with shower, nice towels. The price includes breakfast which was excellent - eat as much as you want and plenty of choice both hot and cold. In the evening, the bar is free for soft drinks and wine/beer/some spirits for 2 hours. The hotel is in the Battery Park area, downtown - we rode the subway, which was easy, felt safe and 2$ a ride. There is a taxi rank outside and the staff are excellent in calling a taxi at busy times when the rank is empty. Plenty of restaurants of all prices in the neighbourhood.Internet access is free in the lobby but the service wasn't reliable - often cutting out. Wireless internet access is available in the room but pricey at 10$ per day. Overall a good quality hotel, modern facilities, comfortable roomy accommodation at a value for money price(particularly in view of the excellent breakfast and free evening drinks) in a good safe neighbourhood. Would use this hotel for every NY trip from now on.

This hotel is great for those travellers who do not wish to stay in the noisy, hustle and bustle of the Times Square area. There is plenty to do locally including easy access to the ferries to Staten Island, the Staue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The hotel itself was marvellous;the staff courteous and helpful;the breakfast delicious and the nightly Manager's complimentary drinks an added bonus. We felt totally safe both during the day and in the evening and I would quite happily recommend this hotel to anyone.
