Excellent value

24 August 2008
Location excellent. 10 minute walk to promenade,5 mins to old town ,5 mins to high street shops.Although our room was small it was clean and comfortable and the staff were helpful and pleasant. This hotel has a 4 star rating which is rather generous although it does represent good value for money compared to other hotels in Nice.

We have just returned from nice the hotel ellington was disapointing in that the upgrade to a superior room was very small and the bathroom was in need of an upgrade. Tea and coffee in the the room was minimalistic. Breakfast was basic and staff not particularly friendly. Location was good.

Good Hotel

12 May 2008
Stayed for 5 nights in the Ellington. It was very reasonable and included breakfast. The room we booked (superior) was fine, except it was very small and we have a 10 month old baby, so once the cot was in the room, there was no room to move around. We were upgraded to a larger room (i think it my have been a junior suite) for 15 euro per night. breakfast was fine, location is great and overall a lovely hotel

Fantastic 3 night break

23 April 2008
We returned yesterday from 3 nights staying in Nice. The hotel was not really a 4* as the rooms & bathroom were very small however very clean. There are photos in the reception advertisign the rooms but you do not get one of these on checking in.Breakfast provided a vast selection of choice & really nice. We only spent 1 day in Nice & the 2nd in Monaco only 15 mins away on the train at 12 euros return per couple & the 3rd day in Cannes again only 45 mins away on the train at 22 euro. The train station is a 10 min walk from the hotel so you are really central for anywhere you want to go.We would use the hotel again even though the room was small because we hardly spent any time there other than to sleep & eat breakfast. Great location.

Excellent value

26 March 2008
We booked a 3 night stay at the Ellington. It was excellent value for money althought the room was on the small side but that said we didn't go to Nice to stay in the hotel room. It was clean and tidy and comfortable and the room service was very good every day. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was self service with good choice from cooked or continental style and llots of it so you can stock up for the day and not really need to eat until late in the day. It is about a 5 minute walk from the SNCF railway station were you get dropped off by the airport connection and a 5 minute walk to the seafront and the Promonade des Anglais. We would recommend this establishment to people for a short break. A word of warning to travellers though, watch your valubles my partner had her bag snatched right outside the hotel entrance on the last night of our stay. A local helped us and restored our faith in the French people but it soured what had been a lovely time and experience though this can happen anywhere really.

Great Value

25 March 2008
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Ellington. Room although fairly small was adequate for our needs. The hotel staff were all very pleasant. Breafast was great with lots of choice. A fantastic deal through Alpha Rooms & worth every penny. This was our first trip to Nice & I would recommend the town as a great place for a short break.

Ellington hit all the right notes! But no English TV or heating means only 4 out of 5.

20 February 2008
We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Ellington. The room (222), although not massive, was adequate for our needs. Bed was very comfy, tea & coffee making facilities, plazma TV bath robes and a nice bathroom. On the downside this was our first trip to Nice which was colder than I expected. Some heat in the bedroom would have been nice - I turned air con to heat and up full but after a day out this made little difference to the room temperature. The only English speaking channels were CNN and BBC World - a bit too newsy for our liking. We like to have a coffee and watch something light before sleeping. Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice and a very pleasant setting. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. Overall I would recommend the hotel - our deal with Alpharooms was amazing £135 for 3 nights B & B - just £22.50 each!

City Break

16 January 2008
Just back from a 3 night stay at the Ellington Hotel. We had the smallest bedroom that we have ever stayed in. Room 206 at the end of the second floor corridor. It was almost impossible to get around the beds and the toilet in an ancient bathroom was so near the wall that we had to use it from a sideways position. The mini bar was very over priced with only 1 small bottle of wine and 1 can of beer and some minerals but the room did have a tea-making facility. The breakfast was average enough for a 4 star hotel and hugely overpriced for €20 but it was included in our price. Nobody used the bar which closed at midnight. The staff however were very friendly and helpful except for one receptionist to whom I complained that the carpet was not hoovered when we arrived and expressed my disappointment with the room. She did offer to move us to another room but told us that it would cost extra so we werent happy with that and stayed put. The Hotel was not full. We got a good price from Alpha Rooms which softened the blow somewhat but there is no way that we could regard this hotel as a 4star one. However, the location was great but if we go back to Nice we will choose a different hotel.

Happy with choice

04 December 2007
Happy with choice of Hotel. Convenient location, walking distance (10mins) to Bus Station and even less to trams and local buses. Room was clean and cheerful though the bathroom was a little on the small side. Breakfast very good choice and presentation. Overall we were happy with our booking and would certainly recommend it.

Excellent Ellington

28 April 2007
Excellent location near to the City Centre, old town and night life. Hotel was chic typically french and very clean and well presented, the staff are very good the breakfast was good selection of the usual contiinental fair plus hot buffett, our room was very good recently refurbished and all the furniture and bed was new. We travelled with my wife parents who were visitors to France forthe first time and they were very impressed with the hotel,as seasoned travellers our expectations for this hotel were before we arrived average having stayed in many hotels in Nice, the Ellington exceeded our expectations, and we would certainly return to this hotel again. ps Thanks Alpha Rooms excellent organisation and service as usual.
