Excellent holiday in Paleo
01 July 2007
We really enjoyed our 12 nights at Eleni Studios- Angela and her family really made us feel very welcome, as it is a family run appartment building and they live on-site during the season.
It was peaceful and we often imagined that we were staying in a private villa with our own fantastic swimming pool! Because it was so peaceful we suggest that families with young children may enjoy staying in apartments closer to the beaches etc where there is more things to see and it keeps the atmosphere peaceful for those staying at Eleni - there isn't much to do on site for young ones .The apartments were not all booked whilst we were there , so it may feel different if the season was busy. The studios are a little out of the way if you want to be right in the centre of Paleo's beaches and bars - but we were very happy not to be staying further down the road where coaches and scooters are whizzing past all the time and the pool side side bars are often used by the public closer to Paleo centre. The studios are on the road heading towards Lakones, which is a pretty little village but you will need transport to visit that village or good walking shoes and a cool day - as it is very hilly to get to - hence the amazing views once you reach the top.
Our studio: Top floor room with double bed, balcony and shower room plus kitchenette. Room came with optional a/c ( which if its hot weather it is worth paying the extra money to get- approx £5 a day) You will be in 'the countryside' so having your windows open means possability of mosquitos and a noisey cockrel next dor waking you early ....so the a/c means you can keep your windows closed at night! Very clean apartment with the room being cleaned every other day by Angela's mum. Bar drinks and food were very reasonably priced and well prepared. In fact every meal we had in Corfu was lovely and the veg / fruit are so fresh. There are plenty of other bars to visit in Paleo and beautiful beaches and coves to explore. We hired a car for a few days from a place down the lane and this meant that during our long stay we could explore the island even more. Lots of pretty monastries and Corfu Old Town ( about 26 k away) is worth a visit especially in the evening , with pretty narrow streets and shops, cafes etc. There is a local bus service to Old Town but the last bus back was 6pm ....and we wanted to stay later. The transfer service was excellent and didn't take long. Thanks for a great holiday.
