Lovely hotel

Great location. Friendly staff. Good variety of food at mealtimes.
Bear in mind that the hotel is used for Spanish pensioners, so it is a bit noisy, but overall we would stay there again.

El Rodeo review
14 June 2008
Excellent location - could hardly be bettered. Promenade and beach at the end of a short avenue and old town with Orange Square a short walk in the opposite direction.
Hotel itself is basic but friendly with your own balcony, fridge, en-suite with very powerful shower and hair drier.
There was a musty smell in the room, perhaps previous occupants were smokers. Breakfasts were hit and miss. It was not high season when we stayed so no snack bar available at pool. Pool itself is a dipping pool rather than one for a swim.
All in all would use hotel as a perfect base for exploring Marbella and surrounds. Would stay there again.

Review of 'El Rodeo'

If you normally stay at a 5* then this isn't for you.. but if you want a clean, safe and fantastic location then book this hotel now. When I read the reviews I was afraid to walk through the front door..but worry not. Its very clean in your room, and yes its basic but you have a fridge to keep your beers cool, a bed to sleep on and a balcony to sit out on..what more do you need! There's a sun terrace and pool plus a very clean restaurant but if you normally head for Michelin restaurants then this again isn't for you. Food choices are basic but at the price you can afford to go half board and still have a couple of expensive meals in Orange Square which is just behind the hotel. The beach is just down the road (100mts if that) and the choice of bars, restaurants and sunbeds fantastic..the promenade walk is lovely and flat, ideal if you find walking difficult or just like taking a relaxing stroll. El Rodeo really is worth a look if you you want a good, basic hotel in the center of Marbella.. I thoroughly recommend it and I do like to stay in the Sheratons/Marriots etc but pay 4 times as much and therefore expect more..I think some of the other reviews are written by snobs who maybe shouldn't have booked there, giving such unfair reviews... give it a go!! Happy hols.

The hotel is very competively priced for the area and is situated in an excellent location. It is about a five minutes stroll from the sea and even less from the heart of the old town of Maebella with its many shops and histotic buildings.A bonus is that the frequent and cheap local bus service(1 euro standard fare) has a stop immediately at the back of the hotel. The bedroom was quite large as was the bathroom. Both air conditioning, and plumbing , functioned without a hitch. There were , however, some drawbacks, especially for more mature guests. The reception area is reached from the main road via a number of quite steep steps and there appeared to be no porter employed to assist with cases etc. There are only two small lifts, each with a maximum capacity of three passengers. When the broke down one morning there was chaos. The two low and narrow single beds in our room seemed more suitable for a boy scouts camp than a three star hotel. None of the staff in the restaurant or bar spoke english which caused problems eg when trying to obtain a bowl to eat cornflakes out of.However the reception staff were always courteous and helpful. In summary a bit of a "mixed bag" but well worth a visit provided you are prepared to put up with one or two "irritations"

Excellent location in Marbella, minutes walk from the beach and from Marbella old town. Taxi rank a minutes walk where a taxi into Puerto Banus costs approx 9euros. Rooms basic but nice, air conditoning at no extra cost, safe available in the rooms for 12euros. No cooking facilities but a small fridge in the room. A maid visited everyday and changed the towels. Would certainly use this hotel again.

An excellent located hotel, and very reasonably priced, nicely decorated and clean - rooms very adequate. Meals were good except if you have a baby, the only high chair was filthy and the straps were broken so I could not relex and take my eyes off my baby to eat myself properly - hard work if you are alone, spoilt the stay. Generally, I would say a good three star hotel.

staff excellent and friendly. hotel very clean. food awful!! repetitive, lacking in imaginations and hot food was cold each night!! very noisy (but I know Spain so was not unexpected) would not stay there again BUT surrounding town etc lovely but I know the area and also speak spanish.near the sea and all other ammenities so good from that point of view BUT the food bit had to play an essential part as there was nothing to do in the evnenings. hotel boasted entertainment - none. no mini bar in room as promised. swimming pool very small and only enough room for 2/3 people. needed cleaning too. Would not go there again.

This hotel could not be more perfect... the location is brilliant, close to the old town, within 100 yards of the Passeo and next to the main bus stops, taxi ranks, rooms are basic but have everything you need including a decent shower not just a trickle of water, tv, telephone, extra blankets in case it goes cold or in my case to use as extra pillow to raise my head, food in the restaurant is brilliant and breakfast what variety and very, very very good coffee, staff are friendly and helpful. I will be going back there as soon as I can and will recommend this hotel to friends.

El Rodeo is a good basic hotel in a brilliant location. Rooms are simple, not fancy but have everything you might need. Breakfast was great and dinner was OK (we never sampled lunch). It's about 200m walk down to Venus beach and there is a small pool and sun terrace on the roof which has brilliant views all over the town and out to sea. Also there was a good mix of nationalities staying in the hotel with a high proportion of Spanish guests. But be warned if you are going to hire a car, parking in the week is very tricky.
Overall El Rodeo is a really practical but not luxurious, predominantly Spanish hotel, which provides a good base to explore the non-package holiday side of the Costa del Sol.
