Great Family Holiday

23 October 2008
We have just come back from Dunas Suite Hotel, Maspalomas and have to say had a great time. We have never stayed on a holiday complex before, having previously opted for a private villa so were a little worried at what to expect. We travelled with our children (6 & 8) and mother (76). Read a number of reviews beforehand which were just so helpful so decided to do the same for someone else. We booked a 2 bed suite and were originally allocated Room 119 which for us was too small having only 1 bathroom with a bed being made up on the living room sofa. The room was also a little too far for mother as she has difficulty walking so asked whether we might be moved. With no hesitation we were given one of the rooms by the main pool (Room 801) which was superb. Much larger, two en suites and room for a camp bed in our room for our 6 year old. Everything about the hotel is clean and tidy, beautiful gardens, rooms cleaned daily, staff whilst not overly friendly, curteous and helpful. Five swimming pools in total (that we found!), two main ones. We opted for All Inclusive (AI) and almost waddled home having eaten and drunk so much. We were initially worried about the quality of the food given some of the reviews read, but have to say, we found it to be of good quality with plenty of choice. The AI was a little confusing at first but you soon got the hang of things. We were only there for 1 week so only really found the second main pool just before we left (it's behind the tropical bar towards the back of the complex). We stayed mid October when the hotel was not full, not sure we would have enjoyed it as much in peak season - too busy. Predominantly German, Dutch and Spanish guests which was fine, entertainment in our opinion was naff but then we didn't realise there was any in the first place! We did go out on several trips, submarine, swimming with sealions, camel ride, crocodile park, all of which we enjoyed alot. All in all we would suggest young couples might be bored here but would highly recommend this hotel to families. A great holiday.

A great start to a great holiday!

18 June 2008
Last year we found that a week wasn't quite a long enough break in Gran Canaria, so decided to book 4 nights at the Dunas ahead of the week at our timeshare. It was a good decision, and made a great start to the holiday. We paid the extra for all inclusive, and found it to be great value. Accommodation was clean & more than adequate for our young family - the kids absolutely loved it!

fantastic accommodation

10 January 2008
just come back from dunas suite hotel where we stayed for 12 nights over new year.we stayed in a junior suite which was located in 1 of the 6 horse shoe shapes surrounding the pool area which is a perfect location as you are right near the main pool bar.i would recommend you request this location as it is the best in the hotel!the suite was a lovely size and had a very large patio area, also it was extremely clean with maid service every day.lovely pool area that gets the sun all day long.the food was of good quality but we found the evening meals a bit repetitive with tuna and about 4 versions of pork most nights!!the hotel was very busy with mainly german/dutch people but we found this good as we dont like hotels full of english people!!great location in a relaxing quiet area but close enough to bars/restaurants etc.15min walk to maspalomas beach/sand dunes/camels.15min walk to faro 2 shopping centre, would very much recommend banjo bar which has fantastic waiters and a great party atmosphere!!also paddys bar on the beach of maspalomas its great for a few afternoon drinks where you can sit outside still soaking the sun up whilst enjoying your drink!!the kasbah is the main nightlife area and only costs 4 euros by taxi to get to.we stayed all inclusive but spent most nights out in the local bars as we dont enjoy hotel entertainment and also this is our 7th time to gran canaria so we know the local area very well. so we cant comment on the hotel entertainment.overall would highly recommend this hotel and will definetly go back again, but do get a suite if you can and in 1 of the horse shoes around the pool area.

Superb hotel

20 November 2007
My wife and I have just arrived back from a super week at the Dunas Suites hotel. We were in a lovely suite in a quiet part of the gardens which received the late afternoon/evening sun.The hotel was very busy and had predominantly German/Dutch guests which was reflected in the type of fare offered particularly at breakfast. The quality was however excellent and there was always plenty of choice. We went on a couple of theme nights[Italian and Chinese]but overall preferred the main restaurant. The all inclusive option was well worth the extra and the drinks in the main were of excellent quality and range.Overall an excellent hotel with pleasant obliging staff. We would definately stay at the Dunas if and when we next visit Gran Canaria.

Great holiday,July 2007

18 July 2007
This is our second visit to this hotel, the first time was without our children(12&9).On both occations we enjoyed our stay very much, the food is very good(you would have to be very fussy to have a problem)albeit focused mainly on a german taste which makes up the bulk of the visitors. The suites are excelent, our own being a superior, with two bedrooms, lounge, bathroom&patio area.Service in all areas very good-reception,maids,waiters and bar staff. The hotel is spotless throughout from bedrooms to swiming pool. Our first day at the pool started at 11o'clock and there were still sunbeds available. The over all atmosphere in the grounds of the hotel is very relaxed which made for a chilled out holiday.During the day the entertainment team arranged activities but it was not ,in your face. The only improvements that i would suggest is for the evening entertainment to go on a bit later,as by 10.15 pm the place was deserted.Oh and a few more English T.V. chanels. The location of the hotel is ideal as the beach and shops are a ten minute walk.I would return for a third time to this hotel so it must have something.

Review of 'DUNAS SUITE HOTEL MASPALOMAS'

20 February 2007
Pretty 4* hotel 10min easy walk to beach, approx 20 min walk to Faro2 and Holiday-World.  The 1 or 2 bedroom suites are bungalows set around pool or well-maintained gardens.  Each suite has it own patio area.  Suite facilities - mini fridge, clock radio, Sat TV but only English channel is CNN. Hotel staff approachable, kid club excellent.  Buffet breakfast and dinner lots of choice each night.  No complaints very nice 1 week half-term stay.

Review of 'DUNAS SUITE MASPALOMAS'

26 April 2006
We had a standard junior suite (lounge/bedroom/bathroom) - good sized accommodation and very clean.  This was in the older block of bungalows near reception so the bathroom was not quite so plush (ie. only 1 sink and shower over bath as opposed to separate cubicle)! + old style hairdryer in room which was almost useless.  Otherwise, rooms were very nice.  Buffet style food, good but not much choice of vegetables, although plenty of salad, meats and puds.  Not many English people, plenty of Germans and Dutch, but the reception, bar and entertainments staff spoke good English, so not a problem.  We had a 5-year old boy who couldn't swim and the swimming pools were 1.45m+, so there were no shallow ends that he could stand up in and didn't want to go in the baby pool.  Once he met up with a girl who could swim, he was quite happy in there with arm bands on though.  The dunes of Maspalomas are a 10 minute walk away, down a flat path alongside a nature reserve - a nice walk if not too hot.  Good places to visit for kids are Palmitos Park, Aqualand Maspalomas and Mogan (nr Puerto Rico) for the market.

Review of 'DUNAS SUITE MASPALOMAS'

02 August 2005
Good hotel with freindly staff however, very much a German hotel. Area of Maspalomas very nice up by the lighthouse, 10 mins walk to the beach which is huge but only a couple of euros by taxi which are all very cheap. 35 euros by taxi from the airport. Lovely pool area, air conditioning ok but not as cold as we are used to. Food ok but again very German based. Entertainment could be very good watched starlight express and grease (the cast mimed - but it was fun). Lots of shopping but all very samey. Didn't like the island as much as Lanzarote.
