Review of 'DREAM'

30 January 2006
My husband booked this hotel and I was a little dubious about it as I had read some bad reviews of it on the net.

I have to say I was really pleasantly surprised.  Having stayed at many boutique hotels in New York I know to expect the rooms to be small, however our room was really quite large with two sumptuously comfortable double beds.  The decor in the room was simple and stylish, the lighting being the key feature.  The overall experience was very relaxing. The room was peaceful and well equipped with all the usual essentials plus flat screen tv and bose radio.

The bathroom, like the rest of the accomodation was spotlessly clean and elegantly simple with a great shower and tiny bath. The Chopra spa bathroom goodies smelt divine and the oversized dressing gowns were really indulgent.

The fresh fruit left at the turndown service is a really nice touch. The fish tank in the lobby is fabulous and I found all the staff friendly and helpful.

Overall I would say that this hotel is ideal if you are looking for comfort, style and location and whilst its not overstuffed with facilities (which so often we don't use) the attention to detail in the essentials made it feel truly luxurious.

Review of 'DREAM'

Although the room was small (even for New York), it still managed to feel almost luxurious, with highest-quality linens and tasteful decoration. On the whole, you could do a lot worse than the "Dream." Still, things just never seemed quite as good as they could be. The "special" blue lighting in the rooms seemed kitchy rather than classy; the turn-down service provides fruit on the pillows, but during my stay nothing was ever ripe.

The hotel staff were a little rough around the edges. The check-in desk had misplaced my reservation -- my name had been typed-in incorrectly by them -- and until it was sorted out, they were rude, assuming that I was in error with no business staying at their fully-booked hotel. The concierge answered my few questions serviceably, but inpatiently: as though he were doing me a tremendous favour by pointing me to the subway.
