Girls Week Holiday in the Sun

30 June 2008
We were a group of 5 girls staying in the apartments. The accomodation was spacious and modern and cleaned each day. The hotel was near the strip and a 30 min walk/ 10 min taxi from the old town. The hotel was a mix of groups, couples and families. I would recommend this hotel particularly at the cheap price!

5 Girlies are just back from here! We loved it. Was a really high standard for the price that we paid. Rooms were really big and the pool and reception area was lovely. The walk to the beach was a nice 15 - 20 min stroll. But the location was the best thing about the hotel. We were a 5 min walk to the main strips with alll the restaurants and bars. Best resturant is the Jade (chinese) and a italian cafe (25) Best bar is cafe del mar and renos! Would defo go back again and stay there with my friends.

Dom Pancho

31 May 2008
My 6 year old son, Scott, and I have just spent a few days at the Dom Pancho (26-30 May 08). The room itself was ideal for the 2 of us - 2 single beds, kitchen with fridge, microwave, cooking rings etc, bathroom with bath/shower, balcony overlooking pool area (at additional cost when booking) and was very clean both when we arrived and after the maids had been in each day. The location was pretty good as far as restaurants were concerned with plenty just a couple of minutes walk away but for kids activities it was very disappointing. Had it not been for the pool (which was freezing everytime you entered it and was pretty deep even at the shallow end) and the table football (which cost 1 Euro per game of 8 balls) it would have been even more difficult than it already was to keep Scott occupied. Thank heavens we took our Nintendo DS's!!! Also although Scott is a pretty active 6 year old he didn't want to walk anywhere (we therefore didn't see the beach!) and this again made it difficult to find things to keep him occupied. The TVs in each room were small and you had to pay a 15 Euro fully refundable deposit to get a remote as the TVs had no buttons to change the channel. The only English channels I could find were Sky News, BBC1 and ITV1 - again nothing for kids. Evening entertainment seemed to be on every other night in the bar but the only thing that interested Scott was the parrot show but this only lasted about 30 minutes. We didnt eat in a lot but when we did the food was nice and was reasonably priced, as were the drinks. However, it was equally as cheap to eat out anyway which is what we did most of the time. Overall we had a great time and I would definitely stay at the Dom Pancho again. However I would be more likely to go with my girlfriend or as a group rather than just with my son as there wasn't much at all for him to do.

Great place to stay

06 May 2008
6 lads stayed at the Dom Pancho for 3 nights at the start of May. We had 2 rooms - each with one bedroom. These were perfect for what we wanted, and had twin beds in the bedrooms with a sofa bed in the lounge area. The rooms were a good size and seemed to have been recently refurbished. They were spotlessly clean and included a nice bathroom, table and 4 chairs, TV, balcony, and a new kitchen area with a couple of hobs, microwave, fridge and cutlery/crockery - ideal for what we needed. If you were planning to prepare meals then this could potentially be a problem. We didn't prepare any food in the room, so I can't comment on this. Checking in was easy. All the staff are polite, both at reception and in the pool/bar area. The pool area was great, with a large main pool and small kid's pool, sun loungers and surrounding grassed area. Even though we were a group of 6 lads aged between 26 and 30 on a stag trip, the apartments were filled mainly with families, groups of women and couples, so they're ideal for any type of holiday. The pool area was relaxed and fairly quiet. There are tennis courts but we didn't use them. The bar area has outdoor seating and serves a range of drinks, as well as food during the day. The bar/restaurant inside is a good size and has various things going on during certain nights. We didn't use this though. The apartments are a 2-5 minute walk from the 'strip', and you arrive right in the middle. From there, you can go either right (up) or left (down towards the beach). There's a large choice of restaurants, pubs and bars. The beach is about a 20-25 minute walk from the apartments, and was really nice. All in all, the Dom Pancho was a great place to stay, especially for the money.

Family holiday

29 February 2008
We stayed at the Dom Pancho Hotel in Feb 08 for one week, the hotel is fantastic value for money, apartments are basic but sufficient for our stay, There are three pools a kiddies one & a larger pool both outdoor & VERY cold but then there is an indoor heated pool which is heaven, there is also a small playgroung in the garden area with swings & slides for the kids, The staff were excellent & very friendly especially the bar staff J & Lelia thanks guys my 3yr old daughter hasnt stopped talking about you, evening entertainment was very enjoyable with something different a couple of times a week, Only a short 5min walk to the main strip with bars & restaurants althought not a lot open until mid march, We really enjoyed our stay here & would definately go back again,

Review of 'DON PANCHO'

17 March 2006
The hotel is probably a 60's /70's purpose built hotel within  a short walk of Albuferia town centre. My wife is five months pregnant and she coped very easily with the walking as there is only one gentle slope to negotiate.

We had a double room which comprised of a small but functional kitchen, bathroom, lounge, bedroom and balcony, all of which were adequate in size. The decor was a little tired however this is a budget hotel. It is clean and perfectly livable so ideal for people who dine and entertain out like ourselves.

It seems the hotel provide entertainment during the high season however our stay was in March, so we ventured into the town every night which is approximately 5 mins away. There are bars, cafés and supermarkets approx 100 metres aways which is useful yet far enough away not to be a nuisance.

The grounds and swimming pool(s) are fantastic, especially the bath temperature indoor pool. There is a gym, sauna and jacuzzi however these are extras, with the price being 8 euros for two hours.

The hotel seems to be bordered by residential homes and private villa's so the location is really quiet. Sunday night can be a bit noisy from the local's bar 'the Tom Brazil' (across from the front entrance) but they respected the time and the volume was turned down before 11pm.

We really enjoyed our stay here so if you want a good clean functional budget hotel this could be the one for you.

We had a great stay, it's the 4th time we have used the Don Pancho and every time is equally as enjoyable. The rooms are clean and well equipped if you want to cook your own food. The staff are very heplful and speak good English. One piece of advice would be to ask for a pool view room, then you will have the sun on your balcony all day.

We stayed in the Don Pancho in September 05.  This hotel was in a great location for the 'Strip' and 20 mins walk to the beach.  However, it is very tacky with light fittings and wall sockets hanging out, even our tv was melted underneath it!  Also very noisy with floor tiles in the corridors you could hear everyone coming and going.  Room was a fair size with plenty wardrobe space but would not stay there again.

Fantastic hotel - it is basic no luxury but good for the money and perfect for what we wanted. It was quite spacious. Make sure you get a pool facing room as these are the rooms which get the sun during the day and the view of the pool is nice. the sunbathing area is nice and the hotel location is good. you can walk out of the hotel and there are restaurants and bars and a mini market, and about a 5 min walk from the main strip where most of the night life is. There are 2 lovely beaches close by - about a 5-10min walk. the old town of albufeira is gorgeous! it is about a 15min walk along fishermans beach - a nice walk - probably takes a bit longer if you drink a lot of sangria in albufeira (speaking from experience)!!! The staff at dom pancho were friendly and there was no excessive noise/building works etc that many people dread when going on holiday! the dom pancho is nearer to the better night life for younger people - clubs/pubs but the old town of albufeira is nicer - cobbled streets and more quaint, but still with lots of restaurants and some bars. There are also more shops in the old town (souveneir/clothes/jewellery type). we went in nov so there werent that many people there so not much of a night life. there is a really nice chinese place near the dom pancho - the dragon king, staff were so friendly and food was lovely. the japanese restaurant had some good deals but didnt accomodate for vegetarians and werent too friendly. there is an English bar called "rumours" - 3.5 euros for a full english - great for a hangover cure. Weather was perfect - blue skies and 25-30 degrees every day couldnt have asked for a better holiday for what we were paying! I would definitely recommend this hotel and the area. Stay in the new town if you are going for the night life - if not i would highly recommend staying in the old town. the whole area is lovely - not over commercialised but has everything you will need - cant wait to go back!

don pancho was as we expected for the money we paid, basic but clean. excellent location, near enough to walk to the strip (about 10 mins) but far enough away not to be bothered by late night noise. fantastic beach (oura beach) about 5- 10 mins past the strip. hotel entertainment was the usual, singers, karaoke etc. One big warning - DO NOT PHONE HOME FROM YOUR ROOM - I made 8 short telephone calls and the bill came to.....  143 euros Thats about £105. you can buy a phone card from the supermarket for 5 euros which gives you 150 minutes. Across the road there is a dutch bar called sunsemilla, they do an english breakfast for 1.5 euros, fantastic value and very friendly. Be prepared to be hassled by timeshare people, they shove a scratch card under your nose and tell you you've won 600 euros. dont be fooled. we had a great last minute holiday and the weather was great, end of october and about 24 degrees.

Review of 'DON PANCHO'

We found the Dom Pancho more than adequate for our needs, the rooms were spacious, and the beds were really comfortable, real mattresses rather than foam. the Location was near the "strip" but a long way from the old town, about 5 euros in a taxi. The maids could have made more of an effort, there were no cleaning materials in the apartment, so we had to rely on the maids to sweep up etc, which they didn't do very well!
All in all, if you remember "you get what you pay for" the Dom Pancho was well worth the money.
By the way, we went to Acotias - a few miles away and had a great meal at a little place called the Pig and Whistle, the couple who owned it, Dave and Louise were really friendly.

The apartments were very clean and spacious and there is a bar for a drink. The staff were able to speak English which is important for visitors. The town centre was about 1 euro bus ride away or 10 minutes walk. The beach was a further 5 minute walk away from town. I have no hesitation in recommending these apartments to visitors to Albufeira.

These apartments are suitable for all of your self catering needs and have an excellant pool and gardens area.
The night time entertainment is of the usual self catering standards eg Karioke and low cost entertainers but once in the holiday mode they go down fairly well with the local beer!!!
I have been to these apartments 2 years running and will be going back next year as they are ideally situated for various locations.
So go there yourself and find out !!!
