The Dodo Hotel is a modern building in a less developed part of Riga. it has very good service and is decorated in a modern style. I found the rooms small, but if you plan spending most of the day touring Riga and the surrounding districts, this wont be a problem. Taxi's often park outside waiting for fares, or you can book one with one of the friendly receptionists. I took the tram into old Riga, the tram-stop is only 100 metres from the hotel, it will take you right to the centre of town, between the freedom monument and McDonalds restaurant. At the time of writing it costs only 50 centimis, but with inflation at 21 % this is sure to rise. But it's still great value. Just pay the driver and he will issue you a ticket. I would recommend that you avoid the area around the hotel after 10pm. We had no trouble in this area but I have family in Riga and they were wary. The hotel has no facilities in the room for tea or coffee but there is a vending machine in the lobby. Overall it is great value for money and is quiet at night.
