Stayed at this hotel from 8th to 11th December 2007. It was a present for my boyfriends' 50th birthday. The hotel is in a great location - plenty of bars, restaurants & shops in the vicinty. The hotel itself was really better than expected. The room itself was big with all the usual amenities. Room service was excellent. We were at the front of the hotel with a lovely view of the canal. The breakfast was superb with with a great choice of all the food that you would expect - there is no way you would go hungry. Top marks to the lady who takes care of the breakfast room - she was really pleasant & efficient. The rest of the staff were really friendly & helpful. Tram stop was outside the hotel which was great if you were fed up walking. There was a downside to the tram stop being outside the hotel. It was fine during the day but at night could be a bit noisy. The area that the hotel was situated in was busy with bars & restaurants so it could be a bit busy especially on a Saturday night. So if you are a light sleeper like me please take some earplugs!I was a bit apprehensive booking this hotel for a surprise birthday present after reading some reviews but on the whole I would definitely go back again. My brother & his wife are coming over from the States in August & want to go to Amsterdam so I think this hotel will be the obvious choice.
