Nice One

10 November 2008
stayed here 3 times now, very clean hotel with friendly staff, would recommend to anyone who dont mind a little climb, stairs are very narrow and great for exersize, located in a nice area, not in the main strip but only 5 mins away from everything. nice pancake shop a couple of doors down and a great place to eat just on the parade of shops.

Nice hotel in Amsterdam in a very good location. There are a lot of very steep stairs to get to the reception (no lift) the bedrooms are on floors two and three and also a steep climp up winding stairs. The rooms were very simple but nice, the location wins out on this one. Keep the stairs in mind if you pick this one.

I wasn't expecting much, due to some reviews I had read, but was pleasantly surprised.  Reception staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive, we had requested a non-smoking room but were given one which was not - we asked to moved and this request was executed immediately.  We stayed in Room 204.  The rooms are small but clean and the water pressure in the shower is excellent.  We had a balcony overlooking the main street and we enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. The continental breakfast was good, therefore in terms of value for money we would recommend this hotel.  Very steep stairs at the entrance would hinder elderly people, although Reception staff offered to carry our bags down for us.

very clean. small room but comfortable. breakfast was simple but enjoyable. a 10 minute walk into dam square and about 15 mins to anne frank house.very central even the trian station was a 15-20 minute enjoyable walk. the only bad thing was the very steep stairs not suitable for the infirm or disabled. overall we enjoyed our stay and would probably go back.

After opening the door from the street and seeing the scary steep stairs we all collapsed into fits of laughter.Once having climbed them we found the hotel warm and cosy, the rooms were on the small side but just what you would expect for an old hotel of this type.Everything we needed was there just squashed into a small space!Breakfast may have only been bread, cheese, eggs,
jam etc but it was fresh everyday and plenty of it.We stayed in early December and had to keep our window open most of the time as the rooms were so hot.All in all a good hotel for the price we paid,it was far and away the cheapest deal we found and if you only want a base with a comfy bed and a decent shower and to be close to central Amsterdam then this is the one for you.

Basic but clean and value for money. Good location. First impression does not do it justice as its just a door amongst a parade of shops.Entrance is via a very steep flight of stairs but this is typical of this type of hotel in Amsterdam.

The wife and i stayed at the Di-Ann Hotel. The location of this hotel is great and near to everything and makes a great base if you like to walk. There is a nice little pub next door called the panorama that serves food, so you don't have to travel far for a bit to eat.

Ok back to the hotel, well when you first get there the stairs can be very daunting and are not suitable for disabled or older people. The hotel Di-Ann was clean and quiet, one tip move the fridge from the side of your bed, it will keep you up all night. Breakfast was very basic, toast cheese and pots of spreads. The fruit teas were nice and coffee on tap.  All in all we enjoyed our stay at the hotel, clean and affordable and in the right location. If you want more out of your hotel then pay more, if your on a budget or not fussy where you stay (i fall in to the latter) you cant really go wrong here.

The hotel was clean and staff very helpful and friendly.
The down side was the stairs to reception on 2nd floor ( very steep ) and then we were put on the 4th floor ( up another two flights of steep stairs )
The reception staff will offer to take your luggage down for you but it was very steep.

Room small , clean and shower great.

Would stay again but not if I was staying longer than one night as luggage would be a problem.

The Di-Ann was a lovely experience, the staff and guests were all friendly and kind. The view of stairs extending up above us was not exactly a welcoming surprise, we had 57 between the entrance up to our room and we were only on the second floor but you would be surprised at how good you get at them and they really do help keep you fit during your stay. You have to get used to this in Amsterdam everywhere is stairs in narrow houses. The staff are always on hand to help and the entrance door is accessible 24 hrs a day. The food is all wonderful with a fantastic little Italian restaurant not 2 mins from the Di-Ann. Situated perfectly with a short stroll to Dam Square and then you can get to anywhere. Only a 10 minute walk from central station with taxi's available with a phone call from the hotel. Anne Franks House is nearby for starters full of interesting facts and memorabilia. The breakfast was sufficient and warming with eggs and cheese etc good tea for the brits, available from 7.30 - 10.30 am. You are supposed to check in at 2pm but our room was ready at midday and we checked out at 11am but you can store your baggage there on the day you leave for free. You have a television in your room with a fridge, small bathroom with hairdryer sometimes available on request. The shower was good, no problems with pressure and you could set the perfect heat. The hotel has a few brochures of areas to visit which is handy and some little vouchers. You can smoke in the room with rather stiff windows but they do open, you have views of the canals that you are situated between. The Di-Ann has real character and is was an enjoyable to stay. If I can’t find one without stairs then I will in no doubt return. Thanks.

After you have climbed the very steep and long stairs you get to the reception.I found all the staff on the reception helpful and polite and when we arrived was given a refreshing fruit juice(probably a prize for climing the stairs). The room was basic but clean with a bit of a smokey smell, and a nice view of the garden.Breakfast was ok(toast, cereal, eggs and drinks)we sat on the balcony overlooking the steet. The hotel is very central and a great base for all the sights, with shops and eating places near.Trams, buses and river cruises are all close. If you go with not too high expectations you will find it a good hotel for a cheap break in an ideal place.

We were all given loft rooms. Our friends had a double with doors that opened onto a small but lovely balcony.  Ours was a twin room. Being on the top floor, the walls were slanted and very near to my bed! It was a small room and looked a bit like digs at university!  Tea and coffee facilities were promptly delivered on request and rooms were available when we arrived at 10am even though check in time was 2pm. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The stairs to these buildings are very high and steep.  With the luggage, it feels like you're doing a hike of mount everest which was extremely humerous if you can see the funny side! The shower was dribbling water on the first morning but seemed to become a power shower by the second! I had a plug point right above my head in bed which breaches health and safety regulations I imagine!  Breafast was sufficient, eggs, toast but no fried food. All in all the decor was lovely, staff were very welcoming and the location very central to all local sites.  A good hotel for a short break.

i stayed for 1 night in March at the Di Ann. the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.
there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but were provided inmmediately on request with adequate provision for several drinks. there was no extra charge for this. a hairdryer was also provided on request.
the breakfast was basic but adequate and plentiful - boiled egg, cheese, bread/toast etc. beware, though, of the toaster.the toast seemed to burn on 1 side but was uncooked on the other! (there was a sign nearby advising not to toast for more than a minute).
the bedlinen was clean and fresh as was the room generally.
the only drawback was that the room was cold as was the bathroom (fully tiled and no heater.it was difficult to find heat controls in the room.
the location of the hotel was ideal and within easy walking distance of central station (even with luggage).
