The hotle Del Mar was in an excellent location within walking distance to the marina, the beach and les rambles, you couldn't ask for better on that score. Our room was lovely really clean with a nice bathroom, brilliant shower and a balcony overing looking the street. The only thing i would say about the room is that we booked a double and got 2 singles pushed together however it didn't bother us too much. Breakfast is very poor we didn't mind because it was included in the rate of the room however if i had to pay extra i wouldn't eat there. There are plenty of cafes near by that would provide a much better breakfast. Staff are nice and pleasant also

10 out of 10 for location. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly, shame there is no bar. Breakfast was a little mean in my view, Eggs & Bacon put out all in one go & left to go cold for late eaters, fruit over the hill & by Monday morning stale bread rolls, no sausages & generally poor choice. Our bedroom was very clean & had a nice little Juliette balcony overlooking a side street. We would return again due mainly to the hotel's location.

Pre Cruise Stay

We stayed at this hotel for one night prior to a cruise. It is very modern and clean with helpful staff. We were amazed when we got a top floor room which had a sun terrace complete with chairs and a sun lounger. Breakfast was a bit long winded as most things had run out by 10am and we had to keep asking for almost every item but it was OK once we got what we wanted. It is quite close to La Rambla where we ate in the evening and very close to the port to join the ship.

The front of house staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel and rooms were very clean although there were problems with smells from the drains. The location was fantastic and the breakfast was addequate. I would have no hesitation to return to this hotel again.

I thought the hotel was pretty good overall but we had a problem with smells. There was constant smell of drains in our bathroom which disappeared when the maid came but then re-appreared within a few hours- not pleasant. Also our air con didn't work which made it worse.
The location is great though especially seeing as we had a view of the harbour.
Breakfast was a real disappointment espcially after the good reviews I read, so we only went once. Though it may have been because we went later on.
Overall it was pleasant and clean - dispite the smell!

I thought this hotel was excellent. Great location. Very clean. Very nice staff. Great buffet breakfast. Train station to the airport is 5 minutes down the road. We could not have asked for more. Recommend it to anyone!

Review of our stay - end of Jan 08

This hotel was in a fantastic location - within walking distance of all the main sites, and the hotel was spotlessly clean! The main advantage was its convenient location to everything and being able to go directly to the airport on the Cercanias. Also, because it was slightly away (abt 5 mins walk) from La Rambla, it meant that you got a decent night's sleep. Our room (on the 4th floor) had a couple of chairs and a table as well as a sunlounger, which would be nice in the summer if you wanted to escape the main hub of the city, as you got a nice view of the harbour. We didn't eat breakfast at this hotel, but there were lots of bars/cafes/restaurants nearby. Would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Took my (mature-ish) parents to Barcelona for the first time

The Del Mar Hotel was really clean and the staff were very welcoming - also it's only five minutes walk from Estacio de Franca which has a direct train link to the airport. Breakfast would have been improved with more fresh fruit and fresh coffee. Also no tea/coffee making facilites in the rooms. However the location was perfect...near Port Vell and just a short stroll to Las Ramblas (but away from the noise), and a stones throw from a selection of lovely tiny restaurants/tapas bars/coffee bars etc. Definitely good value for money.

Hotel looks a bit shabby from the outside, but is scrupulously clean and very comfortable. Staff are very friendly and efficient without being intrusive. Breakfast substantial. but would have liked more choice of fruit and breads.Coffee from machine, not my cup of tea!! Husband not impressed with cold sausage and bacon but survived!Great locality,in between Ramblas and beach , bus stop just outside and metro 3 minutes walk away. Apart from slightly iffy breakfast, well satisfied that we got value for money.
