Hotel as described. Good, clean family room for 4 of us. Breakfast was fantastic - better than some 5* hotels! Great having free internet access too. Didn't try the pool but saw that it was overlooked by builders currently!!! :( Hotel is out of the town centre and walking with a push chair on the busy road (small part had no pavement) was a bit of a worry. Carrefor (large supermarket) just over the road to stock up on groceries. Good value for money especially with the breakfasts.

Closer than Barca after a late flight!
13 November 2007
This hotel opened the same year as Girona airport (1967) - but it´s definitely complete (whereas they´re still building the airport!!) The bus (hourly) from the airport to Girona Central bus station is €2.05 and takes 25 minutes, then the L2 bus from there to Hotel Costabella is €1.15 and takes about 15 minutes. We were heading on to (and back from) Barcelona on the two occasions we stayed at Costabella and it suited us really well. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and the sauna/jacuzzi was always empty/available for our use. We didn´t eat in the hotel, but there´s complimentary coffee/cake in the lounge from 12 noon til 7.00pm and free internet access. Good value for money. Recommended!

Does the job! If your lookin for sumwhere to get your head down. Bit of a way from Girona centre but you can jump on the number 2 bus and it drops you off opposite at Hospital Josep Trueta. I personally like the hotel as it one of the few in girona centre with a pool. I have stayed here several times now and there is rarely anybody else around the poolside in the day so it is perfect to chill out, relax and have a dip when you fancy it. There is a supermarket and burger place 5 mins walk away so u can get snacks and sum drinks. Rooms are clean and decent. Only moan is the maids wakin you up early bells trying to get you out. Not good when youve had too many cervezzas the nite before! will deffo be back though

Excellent!
14 August 2007
We stayed only one night at the Costa Bella after arriving on a late flight, before we continued our journey south the next morning. Echo the sentiments about breakfast we could not believe the variety of things on offer to eat and the amount, our room was spacious for four of us, air conditioned, hot water, comfortable beds, TV and free internet was available downstairs. The staff were helpful and friendly, I had problems with the outside drink machine but one of the reception staff gave me a free bottle of water from the bar (which was closed) Got the impression this was a “business in the city” hotel rather than a holiday hotel but it was supremely comfortable not basic like tourist hotels we have stayed in we loved it! If we ever came back to Girona we'd book there again. Wholly recommended, wonderful cosy and comfy accommodation and friendly staff, all you needed when you are tired from a long flight, we were sad to leave in fact, recommend wholeheartedly, another alpharooms gem!

Fits the bill
29 July 2007
Had a couple of days here. Hotel staff were friendly, hotel clean and dining room was great. Had a few problems getting a drink as the vending machine by the pool was broken and the bar opening times were very limited. We also had problems by the pool as there is a road at the back which trucks were using and covered the pool frequently with dust- particularly bad on a week day. The hotel wasn't close to any of your normal holiday amenities, but it is only a 15minute walk to the centre.

nice suprise
25 July 2007
stayed at the costabella mid july 07 found the hotel excellent value for money and would not hesitate in returning, the staff were all helpful and friendly and like one of the other revues said the breakfast has to be seen to be believed,a magnificent choice and variety. We were also charged 30 euros from the airport to the costabella but on our return only charged 20 euros the returning taxi driver said it should always be on the meter at around 20!!Gerona centre is a beautiful place and very relaxed but is about 20 mins walk away with a poor walking path for about 800yds on a busy road opposite the hospital. All this taking into account we had an excellent 3 day brake and would return there tomorrow.

what a little gem....
22 May 2007
have read the other reviews and having stayed at this hotel about 4 times found the smell of rooms strange, maybe a little bad luck for the other travellers as i am a reformed smoker i find myself more than pickyand never have a had a slight wiff of any smoke....enough of that ....on a positive note a fab hotel with a great little pool.lovely breakfast....internet connection for free...toys for the little ones....no need to worry it is not full of kids but as i travel with my 3 year old thought i would mention it.there is a bus from the airport 1.80euros,so jump on that and then get a taxi from the bus station if you really dont want the walk.great location for a walk into the city and take in lovely girona.ps the supermarket is just across the road so you can stock up on a few bottles of rioja.

The hotel was welcoming and friendly. It is on the outskirts of Gerona and about a 5 minute drive into the old city. A taxi costs about 5 euros and its a 15 minute walk into town. Rooms are very clean and tidy and the maid service was excellent. The breakfast is ledgendary and of buffet style. Staff are continually replenishing the buffet. If you like proper english tea take your own teabags but teapot supplied. The staff assist with trips and tour information and enquire on your return about their success if that is what you like.We had many conversations with Eva and Helena about the quality of beaches or the shopping available or where to eat in Gerona. Did not use the restaurant in the hotel as we were out most days and nights.reception open 24 hours Take the AP7 from gerona airport by car and come off at Junction 6.. far better than navigating the route through Gerona prior to arrival. The AP7 is toll free from Gerona north to south so its easy to travel around. Good to have internet access from the hotel to keep in touch and let friends know where you are. the hotel deserves its 3 stars in Spain. My spanish/catalan improved thanks to staff and their encouragement

Hotel Costabella is an excellent hotel. We had a triple room for 3 adults and found it quite spacious and very clean and comfortable. It was excellent value for money and even had a small outdoor pool. We did not include breakfast in our booking but you can have an excellent milky coffee at the breakfast bar for under £1 and order a few croissants if you like. A short walk past the hospital and the Carrefour Hypermarket brings you along a busy main road and then into the old city of Girona (about 15 - 20 minutes to the old Arab Baths which are well worth a visit for just 1.60 euros. We had lunch at a tapas bar nearby, delicious and very reasoable.

was really surprised how good the hotel was, big comfortable rooms, nice staff, swimming pool, sauna etc. Girona is lovely, first time there and found it a very layed back and beautiful city. Girona is also a good point to which to travel to other places in the east of Spain. if you can work out the bus system it is very good. the hotel was about a 15 minute walk into the old town.

We arrived at the CostaBella at 23.30 and were greeted really well despite it being so late.Within 10 minutes the Receptionist had checked us in.Our room was absolutley super. We had a Queen size bed, mini bar, tv,and sofa. The central heating had been left on, and so the room was lovely and cosy. The en suite bathroom was also of a very high standard. Both rooms were spotless, and kept spotless throughout our stay. Being my 50th birthday celebration, on seeing my cards the hotel left me a gift of some chocolates and a souvenir cotten bag with hotel t/ shirts and basball caps. It was such a lovely gesture. The towels were lovely and fluffy, these were changed very day, with shampoo, tissues also provided.Plenty of hot water was also available. All the facilities advertised were provided, free gym, sauna, jacuzzi, bikes and safety deposit boxes.Tea/Coffee and cakes were served free from 12 noon till 6pm in the lounge. The buffet breakfast was amazing, you name it they had it.All the staff were extremely polite and helpful. Getting to Girona town centre meant either a 20min walk or taking a bus,( every half hour)about a 3/4 min walk to the bus stop. The bus fare is 1.10Euros. Girona itself was a gem of a place, plenty to see, with reasonably priced cafes and restaurants. Plenty of shops and a weekly market. There are plenty of options to travel further a field either by train or by bus. My husband and I really had a great holiday. We will recommend the Costabella and Girona to all our friends, and I am already making plans to return to the Costabella in September for the Jazz festival.

It's a lovely hotel, very nice rooms just the bathroom arround the bath needed a bit of attention but was not a great deal. Very close to the supermarket, bus station and to town itself especially the nice bits of the town, the Cathedral, and the Arabic quarters. Very nice and friendly staff, and will use it in the future if I am there.

Excellent hotel!About 15 - 20 mins walk to centre of Gerona with bus stop very close by if required.Room superb with spa bath and plenty of space. Hotel in very good condition and hotel staff very helpful and friendly.Breakfast very good.Only thing we would have done differently was to get a bus from Gerona airport to Gerona and then a taxi to the hotel. The taxi from the airport to the hotel was 27 Euro,s as the hotel is north of the town.

Costabella - Good value
24 January 2006
The hotel is a well situated hotel. The bathroom was spotless although the bedroom was a little dated but very clean. It did smell of smoke though and as non-smokers this was noticeable. The free tea, coffee and cakes in the reception area was a nice touch. The sauna etc was also a good idea although we did not use it. There is a decent t.v.room and games room which was used quite well by others. Decent sized car park and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned daily and the towels were changed also. The towels were beautifully clean and of good quality. The hotel is about a good 10 minute walk from the old town which is well worth seeing. Beautiful architecture and wonderful views. All in all a nice place and would certainly go back there.

This small hotel is well placed for pedestrian access to the centre of Girona (about 15 minutes at a reasonable pace) and is immaculately clean and well run.
In summer the availability of a small pool would offer a welcome relief after a day of exploring this lovely historic city. The town itself, however, would not suit anyone with walking difficulties as most of the interesting sights are at the top of steep hills or steps.
There is also no concession made to wheelchair users even on the main roads and footpaths.

Whilst the hotel facilities were OK and the room furnishings were comfortable, both my partner and I (non-smokers), may have to get a check up for lunf cancer as the room absolutely reaked of smoke. I think the last tenant must have gone out in a pine box with severely nicotine stained fingers. If you book this hotel, ensure that you opt for the non-smoking floor (floor 3 I think, the one at the top), although doesn't smoke rise??? Other the deterioration of my lung capacity, the hotel was comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful.

Review of 'COSTABELLA'

We returmed to the Costabella for the second time this summer, and are already looking forward to our next visit. The Hotel is absolutely fine. I think is probably does some business from business travellers, but many of the people staying are, like us, in Girona because of the cheap Ryanair flights. We have had a look at the locations and prices of other Girona accomodation, but, for summertime at least, I can't think of a better location. A swimming pool and sun terrace should the weather be fine, and a brisk 10 minute walk or leisurely 15 minute stroll into the the heart of Girona. On our first visit to the Costabella we breakfasted at the hotel, which was fine and plentiful, but on our last visit we forewent the breakfast and ate breakfast in town instead. Not only did this give us the freedom to choose where we wanted to eat, but is was more fun and cheaper. We will do it this way in future visits, too. There is a good (half-hourly) bus service into Girona if you can't be bothered walking. From the same stop (outside the hospital) you can also get many of the regional buses which take you further afield. We will keep going back to this hotel until something significant changes.

WE loved the 'COSTABELLA'
04 August 2005
Great hotel- nice room- friendly staff, and free wifi internet access for my computer made this a great stay. We didn't mind it being a three minute drive from the historical area (and well worth seeing!) as this is wonderfuilly placed for exploring the costa brava and Dali country, which we did. Terrible price for food, however- but on the other hand, there is a supermarket and a cheap cafe a few steps away so it didn't matter. Good value.

This hotel was excellent. Very clean and friendly and nice touches like complementary tea/coffee/cakes in the lobby were good.

Overall highly recommended.
